Karagandy manager on Celtic and his own players

1898

Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier.  He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.

Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.

He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.

“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.

“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.

“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.

“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

Celtic fans held back cos the zombies fluters were on the ferry. I must admire the for-thot of the ferry owner as the stench must have been unbearable!

  2. Any news on the squad that has been sent over to Dublin?

Also any news on our injury list?

Odds and ends on the web.

One big issue is JL out for a while?

  3. Aviva game sold out within an hour of tickets going on sale. Horse Show week is a huge occasion in Dublin and it’s a pity the timing of this game for Celtic with injuries and European commitments etc. hate seeing the team humped by EPL sides.

Perhaps Neil in addition to getting new players will also be adding to the medical staff to cope with the pressure at Lennoxtown.

just been thinking about the Wilson transfer saga, would any worker on a contract be allowed depart a job – barring illness – at critical time in a job when you are needed most.

Surely Kelvin Wilson should have waited ’til the Champions Lge qualifiers were completed.

Football is indeed a funny old game.

I’m afraid you could not be MORE wrong ……. Has there EVER been a young / inexperienced manager who has taken his team to the heights NEIL has taken his young inexperienced team to.? ….. It is called LEADERSHIP QUALITIES…….sorry, I didn’t mention BIG JOCK in my response to you …… I was 17 when we won the EC under BIG JOCK…… I was sopken to by the Police that night for over-celebrating, and was ‘removed’ from being School Captain for hanging a Tricolour in the prefects’ room the next day (LOL)

NEIL has made me as happy as BIG JOCK did then ….and, for the record, BIG JOCK had more to overcome in those days….the anti – all things Celtic campaign was undisguised then……both could have ‘walked away’, but didn’t ….. It’s called CHARACTER……

BRING BACK THE GB……SLIGHTLY WATERED DOWN (LOL)

Perhaps your right mate, as I said a fine achievement reaching the last 16 of the champions league. And to compare Lenny with big Jock in football terms is not really fair of me, but my original observation from the blog was the class he showed in all things and directed not specifically at Lenny, but in general to Scottish football at the present moment, where I think class is sadly lacking.

Oh for someone of that intelligence on our board, someone like that who had a genuine connection to the fans and who really understood the fans. Currently In a lot of the board’s dealing with the fans, I just don’t feel they have that connection to the Celtic fans and the soul of the club. We often see statements from them that they do, but I just feel somethings missing.

We will have to disagree on Lenny, time will tell if he will progress to the manager we hope he will. I just see too many mistakes being repeated, and it seems to me most of the time he is not learning from his mistakes. Just one example, constantly playing Efe at centre half, a mistake waiting to happen in my opinion. The big fellow just does not seem to have positional sense, against a forward with a wee bit of guile his is easily lost. He seems to be particularly guilty of ball watching, and also he lingers on the ball too much at times and then loses possession.

As I say we will agree to disagree, and I do hope I am wrong about Lenny and he becomes a better manager, but I just don’t think it will happen. :0)

FOR someone who is possibly the oldest rookie manager in the history of the game, Ally McCoist this week gave a flawless impersonation of an impulsive, vengeful and nasty-minded adolescent.

Notoriety attached itself to the former striker with the suddenness and potential devastation of a pernicious virus the moment he demanded the release of the names of the three-man independent review panel who imposed sanctions on Rangers in accordance with the seriousness of the Ibrox club’s breaches of football’s regulations.

The suspicion that his disturbingly sinister outburst – “I want to know who these people are, Rangers supporters want to know who these people are” – was a prime example of premeditated mischief-making did not take long to harden into certainty. It came with the revelation of an SFA spokesperson that the supposedly bemused manager would undoubtedly already have known the identities of the judges, since Rangers had a representative attend the entire judicial proceedings.

Got bitten by a dog last night while I was putting a note thru a letterbox. The wee B jumped up and bit 2 of my fingers. To make matters worse its called Nacho.ggrrrrrrr

  7. For Virgin Media viewers (and others), the programme on Liverpool TV about the post-Hillsborough game at Celtic Park is repeated tonight at 8.00. Timer set.

Someone suggested the channel is also showing a full re-run of this evening’s game in Dublin but not sure what time that’s at.

Kelvin Wilson “wd rather play in the Championship than the C L” Glad he has finally realized his limitations I saw them in his first game at Easter Road!

  9. GG must have had a busy week this week.

Those two articles could have been written any time in the preceding two months.

The only issue was the editor having the cojones to publish them.

  10. Very ungracious statements attached to K Wilson ….I can still remember his first season …hopeless …redeemed himself last season …however £2.5m for a central defender who can’t head a goal and frequently gets out muscled by smaller attackers …dont let the door hit you in the erchie on the way out

  11. 44 years ago today, I went my first derby game against the deid mob. League cup section game 10th August 1969. Tried to get a lift over but no takers. I was just about give up and was walking down Helen st when I spotted 4 guys rip up someone’s fence! Run along the railway embankment stick the afore mentioned fence up against the wall to the stadium and proceed to scale it, thus entering the hatedome!

I’ll have some of that I thought, ran over climbed the fence and over the wall..ya beauty i am in. Went left instead of right when I landed, straight into their end. Oh dear! Thankfully no colours on show or it will have been my last. Climbed up the back of their new covered terracing so I could at least see the action and two Willie Wallace first half goals, this great I thought although there was a lot of swearing around me, they didn’t take kindly to getting humped 2-0 in their own midden! Time to get round to my own fans. In those days you could walk behind the Derry I think it was called, a huge covered enclosure opposite the main stand and through to the Celtic end, only a few police to stop you. Told the copper of my predicament (quietly) and let me through to the sea of green which were in full party mode.

For some strange reason I thought I could find my older brothers in this throng of bodies, no chance. Made my way down the front to see Ronnie Simpson thwart them all second half. Finished 2-0 great day and was the first of many. Told one of my brothers the next day I was at the game, he went ballistic and told me never ever go to one of those games on your own. Once he calmed down he asked ” well did you enjoy it” just another game I said, ” you’ll learn” he said knowingly!

  12. I take it we will get a chance to see how Mouyokolo & Balde are settling in and progressing in their new environment.

Good opportunity for Matthews to get some game time as well.

Kelvin Wilson:”Even though I played in the Champions League for Celtic, my favourite moments were here.

“I went to Celtic to play in Europe and I did that. I had a lot of success there, winning two league titles and a Scottish Cup. I enjoyed that, but I am delighted to be back.”

You know what a mean ….. LOL

  16. Kelvin Wilson has never said a bad word about Celtic or us the fans.

So why the GTF attitude of some posters. Its just another player leaving. Its not the wife running away with the milkman

  17. Kevin Wilson on Forrest TV………

“people talk about the Celtic v Barcelona atmosphere but nothing beats the City ground for atmosphere”…….

What planet are we on this week Kevin?

Average CH in a reasonable Celtic Team………its as good as your career gets for you guy……seriously

You will NEVER play at that level again…….for ANYBODY.

  18. 67…. if the media had done their job on murray there wouldn’t have been a whyte or green.

swings both ways though…if they had reported in a honest way, we would be on … in a row and would have had the cl money they stole

That leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The hilarity of the past couple of years has been entertaining to say the least and long may it continue. HH

  19. not much graciousness on the blog over the last few days.

    however it got me thinking…

the midweek performance was very poor. reminded me (in MONs time) of away to anderlecht. against 10 men, on grass, with very fine players – a really awful somewhat embarrassing performance. it can happen to even the best players/managers.

kelvins comments are more mature than many who have left before him. he’s returned to HIS team and is very happy about it. nothing detrimental about us at all. after a shaky start he performed pretty well for us particularly in europe & particularly against the grander teams. at least in that regard I think he outshone gc and big mick

  20. PS…I was paraphrasing him…….he said what he said!

Regardless of how you dress it up

  21. No one expects a player to do anything other than praise the fans of a club he has just signed for.

There’s taking it so far that all credibility is lost, however: “people talk about the Celtic v Barcelona atmosphere but nothing beats the City ground for atmosphere”.

Even in the days of Clough and European Cup wins I can’t remember any talk about the great atmosphere at Notts Forest. Let alone now.

  22. Always interesting to hear how quickly Dalziel changes the subject when any negatives are mentioned about the huns.Fud.
