Kilmarnock 3-3 Celtic

1194

Celtic frittered away another two points at Kilmarnock this afternoon after a performance which ultimately showed depths of determination but was marked by shockingly bad organisation.

Kilmarnock’s opener in 25 minutes could not have been simpler.  An 80 yard high ball was collected on the edge of the Celtic penalty area by Heffernan, who turned and picked out the onrushing Dean Sheils, who was initially being marked by Beram Kayal but the Israeli failed to match Sheils run, allowing the Killie player time to pick his spot and score.

The home team were encouraged by the opening goal and continued to press forward.  Fraser Forster did well to turn over a blistering shot from Kelly which was destined for the top corner.  Kilmarnock’s pressure was rewarded on 40 minutes when Kayal and James Forrest stood off a ball conceding possession.  Sheils crossed for the offside Heffernan to score but the assistant referee didn’t flag so the goal stood.

Seconds before half time Charlie Mulgrew was short with a back pass and James Fowler chipped Forster to give Killie and three goal half time lead.

The first 28 minutes of the second half were miserable for Celtic as the team appeared resigned to a fate similar to the Celtic team which visited St Mirren Park in March 2010 but Anthony Stokes had other ideas.  Stokes missed what was surely the worst chance of his career early in the first half when the scores were still level, and saw a good penalty claim denied on 71 minutes, but instead of hiding he stepped forward.

James Forrest, who also stood up to be counted throughout, ran at the Killie midfield and was fouled 25 yards out.  Stokes struck the resultant free kick perfectly into the top left corner.

Two minutes later Stokes collected the ball from Ki 28 yards from goal in what seemed like a safe position but his swift turn and inch-perfect shot beat Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.

Kilmarnock were now rattled and Celtic were level on 79 minutes.  Daniel Majstorovic got on the end of a long free kick at the back post and squared for Charlie Mulgrew who headed home.

Having scored three times within seven minutes and with over 10 minutes of the game remaining the Celtic support had reason to feel confident their team could collect all the points but it was Kilmarnock would should have tied up the win in the final minutes when Heffernan found himself unmarked inside the Celtic six yard box but headed over, however, the home team will be happy to have collected their first point in four games.

  1. When final breathless vapour’s spent, my grasp on life’s last straw is rent

As with a wink I say goodbye, I plead with you don’t let me lie

Beneath a willow weeping down, nor garland wreath as final crown

No headstone chipped profound with words, stained from on high by sheugh frae burds!

No whisper of ‘oh whit a shock’, ‘aye he’ll be missed’ or some such talk,

Let no ‘abide with me’ be sung, no peal of sad lament be rung

No De Profundis though it’s catchy, and no Requies-cant-In-Pace

No epitaph tight lipped and terse, no soulful march behind a hearse.

Eternal rest grant unto me no silent dark cold cemetery

No six foot weight of mud and clay ensuring that where laid I’ll stay

Through summer day and winter night, through springtime’s morn and fall’s twilight

No more to challenge time nor tide, no more on wings of dreams to glide.

For on that day I ask you please, you cast my ashes to the breeze

And watch as thermals take me high and spread my grains in cloud and sky

The wind knows where I wish to roam, the waves and tides will take me home

To where the thistle wields its tine, and bares its soul like I bared mine

Just let me mingle with the rain, the snow, the hail, the land and main

Go stand on bens and crags and tails and cast some grains with wings for sails

Then take a pinch and sprinkle on The Tweed, the Forth the Esk the Don

But most of all to travel wide, please let me drift on flowing Clyde

    Hail hail

Yes, I don’t like his name.

But there can’t be a black sheep manager of Celtic.

We must be able to talk about him, like any other manager.

  3. thanks for the response ST.

As you know I’m almost 100% in agreement with your views.

I’m almost 100% in disagreement with Auld Heid.

However you are two of the best , most cogent thinkers and contributors to CQN debate end I always read and consider both your posts.

So get a grip! Auld Heid is an idealist he is to be admired for that. He is wrong but he is a decent Tim to be challenged not rubbished. There are enough narrow minded intolerance on CQN… Don’t join them!

  5. James Forrest

    Really?

A good Celtic man like Auldheid, who has a difference of opinion, and you don’t even want to share a drink with him?

  6. Sydney

You are changing the rules, you said a CH or a goalscorer (which I assumed to be striker). So when do you pay out, when the striker scores his 1st goal or when the ch wins his 1st header?

You wanting the bet or not, you offered, I’ve accepted, stop trying to change it.

When we sign CH or strker you pay £20 – yes or no. If we don’t in the next 2 windows I pay £20. simple.

You never answered me on the league bet I’ve offered you – do you accept this, yes or know.

It is so called ‘fans’ like you who drag this club down to the shambles we are.

We put up with the mediocre, consistently.

Third in the league with no ideas or clue how to change it.

sorry for intruiding your conversation mate, was over in Sydney 4 years ago had went to Paddys market (had to my aul boy was with me and he loves that kind of stuff) anyway we walked about it for a few hours then took a dander to a pub that was in a shopping centre? (or is my mind playing tricks on me?) loads of t-shirts on the wall about it being Sydney Celtic SC?

me and the bro in law were chatting about this a while ago, could you settle an argument? was it in a shopping centre or is my bro in law right and i am talking rafael?

    I’ll take the league bet…£20?

I’d gladly pay £20 if we won the league. If we don’t you can donate to a charity of your choosing…

That’s not what I’m saying Rascar, I’m all for having a debate about it. Having that as your name isn’t a debate it is a crass statement not backed up with any reasoned argument. Yes an opinion, which I have said more than once he’s entitled to, but one which he chooses to express in a crude and hunnish manner, IMHO. This shows a total lack of respect for Neil Lennon.

THIS IS THE LAST I’LL SAY ON IT MATE – if he reflects and decides to keep it, it says more about him than me. It is he that has the problem.

If you seriously think that this title is over then you had better seek the advice of a shrink.

When(and this is hypothetical), if we don’t win the league – then you can call for the removal of Lenny – we are not even a quarter way through the season ffs!

It’s clients like yerself that are bringing the club down – you are a surrender monkey – the negativity is killing me – it’s breeds nothing but bad luck and misfortune.

Barcelona you should start to support – they win everything – but then again, they never used to win everthing, and they won’t win everything for ever.

The bet on the league is at odds of 2-1, so I would pay £20 if Celtic lose it, when we win it you pay £40. You can track back to my converstion with ST to verify if you want – let me know if you still want take it.

If Lawwell had been changed when he should have been we might still have MON…or even Strachan (winning with crap football)

I really wanted WGS booted out but that was because I believed in winning in style.. Now I just want winning or style. Right now we have neither.

It’s hard to stick with Lenny lying 3 Rd but I have written this season off and would give him a go under new CEO next season. Yes I am cutting him more slack but I think he’s due that? He has put his life on the line for Celtic after all?

    Hearts away

    Aberdeen away

I think bt the time we play them in December

2 points will be all that seperates us by kick off

  17. To be 3 down at HT and finish the day the same points behind is a result, maybe a season defining one.

I said on here many months ago that Dan Majstorovic would end up costing Lenny his job, if he doesn’t drop him quick, he will do i fear.

Understandably, at Ht on here, folk were a bit angry, but really, i don’t class anyone who says that they would rather we had lost today as being a real Celtic fan.

Disgusted just reading through some of the comments by the flouncing drama queens and fairweather fans.

No projects eg Kelvin wilson was not a proven centerhalf as the forest fans thought he was mince also

League bet no. As would never like to win because Huns win

  20. I have listened and changed my user moniker. It is provocative, but it is an evident truth.

Someone said above that coming back from3-0 down to Kilmarnock is a season defining moment for the club.

    I despair.

  21. The Honest Mistake (Sickened) on

Looking at this blog tonight shows that the Huns are winning more than the league, they are winning the battle to divide the Celtic fans. Good Celtic men calling each other names and offers of peaceful drinks refused. People that accused Celtic fans of aggressive coughing during a minutes silence are ruling the roost.

  26. James Forrest is Lennon on

    CultsBhoy hates being 2nd says:

He is not an idealist. He is a propagandist. In the course of two days he has suggested that we are not going backwards but that the rest of Scottish football is moving forwards … that is a barefaced insult to our intelligence and patronising garbage, and he suggested the re-elections of Lawwell and others were because they still command the support of the fans, which is another insult to our intelligence after an electoral carve up which would have made Saddam Hussein proud.

At the same time, over the last few months, he has suggested Celtic has a duty to help maintain Rangers as a credible force. He is willing to live with second best. I am not.

What’s worse is that I did offer to go for a drink with him, an offer he utterly ignored before passing off my comments as those of someone who doesn’t think clearly before he writes. I know he is admired and respected by many, and that’s fine, and his mates can defend him till the cows come home, but I am not one of them and I owe him nothing in that regard. Respect is a two-way street, and he’s demonstrated time and again that he has none for some of the people on this forum.

At the heart of what he suggests is a flaw in his supposed intelligence. He is suggested that there is a point where, if we make our views politely, and respectfully, that they will be listened to by the arrogant elitists on our board, people who care not one whit for what we think. Dermott Desmond is on the record as having no respect for anyone who hasn’t read a balance sheet.

I have read a balance sheet, and I know we are going backwards. I have also seen the last three titles go to Ibrox, and this one is on the way there, and I know we are going backwards.

So, his “strategy” is to waste time “engaging” with people who have no interest in what we have to say, who’s arrogance is boundless, who believe we are nothing but customers who should shut up and accept what is on offer regardless of how bad it smells.

There are people here who equate love of Celtic with going to the games and will continue to do so long after the point of no return is past for us. Others show the love by getting angry.

Do not mistake my comments today as the response of a man who has lost perspective. My perspective has not changed one bit today, not with a second half comeback and not with a St Mirren equaliser late in the game. We are a shambles, heading for a disaster.

I said yesterday, before all this happened, that people who think we need to sit down and talk to the board are wrong because the point where it would do any good is past. Today, I say those who think we can reach an understanding are deluded fools playing out a useless charade.

I have a long history of political activism. I know there are times when you walk into a room prepared to show respect and civility, and there is a time and a place for that. But I also know that there are certain people who, when you first sit down with them, you show only strength and that first conversation starts with a list of YOUR demands. If, at that point, your opposite number gets up and walks away, you can start booking the champagne reception because you’ve already won.

The people who run our club are not listening, so talking is moot. Actions speak louder than words.
