Kilmarnock 3-3 Celtic

1194

Celtic frittered away another two points at Kilmarnock this afternoon after a performance which ultimately showed depths of determination but was marked by shockingly bad organisation.

Kilmarnock’s opener in 25 minutes could not have been simpler.  An 80 yard high ball was collected on the edge of the Celtic penalty area by Heffernan, who turned and picked out the onrushing Dean Sheils, who was initially being marked by Beram Kayal but the Israeli failed to match Sheils run, allowing the Killie player time to pick his spot and score.

The home team were encouraged by the opening goal and continued to press forward.  Fraser Forster did well to turn over a blistering shot from Kelly which was destined for the top corner.  Kilmarnock’s pressure was rewarded on 40 minutes when Kayal and James Forrest stood off a ball conceding possession.  Sheils crossed for the offside Heffernan to score but the assistant referee didn’t flag so the goal stood.

Seconds before half time Charlie Mulgrew was short with a back pass and James Fowler chipped Forster to give Killie and three goal half time lead.

The first 28 minutes of the second half were miserable for Celtic as the team appeared resigned to a fate similar to the Celtic team which visited St Mirren Park in March 2010 but Anthony Stokes had other ideas.  Stokes missed what was surely the worst chance of his career early in the first half when the scores were still level, and saw a good penalty claim denied on 71 minutes, but instead of hiding he stepped forward.

James Forrest, who also stood up to be counted throughout, ran at the Killie midfield and was fouled 25 yards out.  Stokes struck the resultant free kick perfectly into the top left corner.

Two minutes later Stokes collected the ball from Ki 28 yards from goal in what seemed like a safe position but his swift turn and inch-perfect shot beat Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.

Kilmarnock were now rattled and Celtic were level on 79 minutes.  Daniel Majstorovic got on the end of a long free kick at the back post and squared for Charlie Mulgrew who headed home.

Having scored three times within seven minutes and with over 10 minutes of the game remaining the Celtic support had reason to feel confident their team could collect all the points but it was Kilmarnock would should have tied up the win in the final minutes when Heffernan found himself unmarked inside the Celtic six yard box but headed over, however, the home team will be happy to have collected their first point in four games.

  4. James Forrest, your posts have recently moved from instructive, emotive and inspirational to destructive and unhelpful.

I always look forward to reading what you have to say but I cannot believe that Celtic are a shambles heading for a disaster. Incredibly sensationalist hyperbole I would expect from Leckie or Jackson.

We’ll only get a seat at the table with one voice. Not interested in egos and whose voice it is, but it should represent the majority view. Is that yours or Auldheids? I doubt it is either, it will be somewhere in the middle – fighting won’t help.

I’ll let you buy me a coffee if you have time in the next couple of weeks in Glasgow city centre, I might even buy you :-)

You are a decent writer, and I admire your work with the mag.

    Actually, I’m a bit jealous.

On your current argument, about Auldheid, you sound very young and reactionary.

Why not just argue on the points, without the drama.

I said already that’s a discussion that needs to be had far beyond this forum. It needs to involve people from every sphere of our support, and we need to utilise good ideas from more than one area.

First is a list of objectives, but they have to start with the removal of the majority shareholder and the chief executive, as the matters of the highest priority. Ideally that should involve a restructuring of the club along the lines of supporter control so we are never the plaything of an absentee landlord again.

When we have a list of clearly defined objectives, with those at the top, the discussion will centre around ways of accomplishing those goals. We have people amongst our support with the experience to do it, and we have other people with the professional skills to assist any proposals we came up with.

The first and most obvious first step is to assemble a small group of people who are willing to commit to the project and to understand what that means. I think it’s time for some of us to step forward, and yes, I am saying I want to take part in it.

  9. SydneyTim they must have been looking rid of them round that time to, i remember asking if they had any polo shirts and well they werent the friendliest in telling me to do one.

The Dirty Nellies staff were fanatastic, we went for a bite to eat one night and a few beer and the barman heard the accents and was arranging trips for the race track for us and tours around the cricket and rugby grounds.

it was around the start of July time and the looks me and the aul boy got walking about in t-shirts while the natives all had big coats on – apparently it was winter time.

Always interested in what you have to say sir – but you are going to have to let this go for the time being at least.

Wait until the title has been decided.Nothing has been won or lost yet. If(and it is a big if)we don’t win it – then there will be a rebellion, and rightly so.

But it’s far too soon to start all this caper now.Lenny and the players need 100% support.

  14. The league is over. The language coming from CP is already defensive. They know that the gamble on a rookie has cost them another title to the bankrupt side in Govan. When will people wake up. being a Celtic fan is not about being faithful through and through, when the cost is the consistent failure to win titles. Some of the people on here are two faced apologists for Neil Lennon. I have said time and time again, it was these very same people who wanted the head of a title winning manager in Gordon Strachan. I listened to the moans about rubbish football…..well what the heck do we have now? I would rather have rubbish that wins than rubbish that fails. But you see, those same people back Neil for the scurrilous reasons why they wouldn’t back Gordon.

I have followed Celtic all my life and I call a spade a spade. Neil Lennon and peter Lawwell are sinking the club. We are third in the league. We scraped a draw yesterday.

You know that the only thing that is going to make any difference is empty seats. It broke the old board. it will break this one. Are you advocating a boycott?

  17. James Forrest is Lennon on

    Tommy Joad:

Rangers, who are in an existential crisis, have won the last three titles and are on the way to a fourth. Celtic, the “best run club in Scotland” has not won the last three titles and will probably not win this one. We have a rookie coach, a backroom team with no experience, a team lacking cohesion, with a number of its players having given up the ghost and wanting out and a chief executive who’s contribution to the season so far has been an ill-judged stab at our rivals, which now must make him cringe.

That, and a lot more I could write here, is a shambles.

Today we were three-nil down at Kilmarnock at half time. They are a truly dire football team (Kilmarnock I mean, for the avoidance of doubt), playing in a truly dire league, and they destroyed us in 45 shambolic (there’s that word again) minutes. Had we been playing a better team in that first half it would have been eight or nine and they would not have conceded three in seven minutes to allow us to put a respectable gloss on a disgraceful performance.

And better teams await us. We ARE heading for a disaster.

Rude, lazy. When the club left, they kept the t shirts that were behind the bar and sold them and kept the money!!!!

When I saw the bet offer I knew immediately there would be discord in defining a striker or goalscorer. Similarly when Bjmac offered 2/1 on Celtic winning the league CultsBhoy hates being 2nd jumped in to accept the offer of £20. Now Bjmac is trying to explain it’s not £20 it’s £40.

Lads, Paddy Power is the site to be on. He’ll gladly accept your bets and there will be no disputes.

Your points are salient and yet painfully uncomfortable to some. For that you have my gratitude and respect. It is clear there are is a large section of the Celtic support, who will cheer Neil al the way as he shuffles the deckchairs on this sinking ship.

Asked about his own future the Celtic boss promised: “I’ll turn it round, we will turn it round. There’s talent in the team but we have to stop giving away silly goals, the goals we gave away in the first half were uncharacteristic.”

the first 4 words, to me mean its over.

the last 11 words, to me mean, it should be over.
