Kilmarnock 3-3 Celtic

1194

Celtic frittered away another two points at Kilmarnock this afternoon after a performance which ultimately showed depths of determination but was marked by shockingly bad organisation.

Kilmarnock’s opener in 25 minutes could not have been simpler.  An 80 yard high ball was collected on the edge of the Celtic penalty area by Heffernan, who turned and picked out the onrushing Dean Sheils, who was initially being marked by Beram Kayal but the Israeli failed to match Sheils run, allowing the Killie player time to pick his spot and score.

The home team were encouraged by the opening goal and continued to press forward.  Fraser Forster did well to turn over a blistering shot from Kelly which was destined for the top corner.  Kilmarnock’s pressure was rewarded on 40 minutes when Kayal and James Forrest stood off a ball conceding possession.  Sheils crossed for the offside Heffernan to score but the assistant referee didn’t flag so the goal stood.

Seconds before half time Charlie Mulgrew was short with a back pass and James Fowler chipped Forster to give Killie and three goal half time lead.

The first 28 minutes of the second half were miserable for Celtic as the team appeared resigned to a fate similar to the Celtic team which visited St Mirren Park in March 2010 but Anthony Stokes had other ideas.  Stokes missed what was surely the worst chance of his career early in the first half when the scores were still level, and saw a good penalty claim denied on 71 minutes, but instead of hiding he stepped forward.

James Forrest, who also stood up to be counted throughout, ran at the Killie midfield and was fouled 25 yards out.  Stokes struck the resultant free kick perfectly into the top left corner.

Two minutes later Stokes collected the ball from Ki 28 yards from goal in what seemed like a safe position but his swift turn and inch-perfect shot beat Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.

Kilmarnock were now rattled and Celtic were level on 79 minutes.  Daniel Majstorovic got on the end of a long free kick at the back post and squared for Charlie Mulgrew who headed home.

Having scored three times within seven minutes and with over 10 minutes of the game remaining the Celtic support had reason to feel confident their team could collect all the points but it was Kilmarnock would should have tied up the win in the final minutes when Heffernan found himself unmarked inside the Celtic six yard box but headed over, however, the home team will be happy to have collected their first point in four games.

Aye, I’m silly. I’m silly for giving a guy a bit of respect. A guy who has been persecuted by many in this country for a number of years. Attempts on his life last year, assaulted at a football ground last year.

Now, as I first mentioned, you are perfectly entitled to hold the view that Lenny doesn’t deserve longer to prove himself and win the league – I disagree, that is not my point, my piint is you change your name on a Celtic blog, which shows as much respect for a fine man as what he is shown by our media or by that thug at tynecastle last season.

At least show you have some decency and remove that statement from your blog name, like my language it is not befitting of any Celtic fan or this site.

    Have a think about it….

  4. Estadio. Our beloved sydney CSC president was in hospital last week fit minor op

He took a turn for the worst and was icu

He is back in normal ward now , but said that when he heard Sammi had scored , he had breathing problems and was rushed to icu

    He is recovering now :)

  5. Mate says to me as we exit Rugby Park, ” Stokes won’t score 2 better goals”. I said” Thats all he did”. Mate “Does he need to do anything else”?

I believe Yes . We are not good enough to carry passengers. Shocking miss in first half.

Kayal looks as if he wants to be elsewhere. He was bought to sell on for a profit. Punt him in Jan before he does any damage. Seemed keen to get dismissed. Hooper? Who are you?

I cannae understand how we can be so different from highs of last season. Inconsistency is normal in young teams, but this is disturbing.

  6. Why do so many of our fans want the board oot ?

Over the years ive been the first to question DD’s ambition but now seeing the state of the huns it’s a no brainer.

We have by far the strongest and arguably most expensive squad.

Our stadium and training complex is second to none.

Our youth side is taking part in a champions league style competition with the cream of europe!

All we need now is NL to piece the jig saw together and happiness will prevail. Happy thoughts all.

Need to catch up with you through the week for details on the phone call.

  7. Bjmac. I can see where you are coming from

Neil was a legend as a player and still is, as a person

Lots of us are worried that if he does not walk soon, then a lot of that respect could be lost

and I was there in 1994 as well. The man that was very influential in that campaign doesn’t hold your current views, is he wrong as well? He may, like me, not agree with what is happening with our board and footballing strategy, but he is nowhere near your level of negativity or calling for a boycott – which would achieve what – you’ve not thought it through – another reason I’m glad you’re over there – youy might have actioned on it….then again.

As with you insisting on terms for the previous bet (shortening the transfer window) I insist you stick to your original offer – a striker or CH, any other criteria you add makes it subjective. £20 – yes or no.

In addition, if you give me the same odds as the bookies over here (2-1) I will also place £20 on Celtic winning the league, that would mean you paying £40 out – I’m sure you’ll be happy to accept that bet as well, going on your posts.

What is disrespectful about asking someone to be sacked………… for not delivering?

Grow up. Yes we all feel for Neil and his personal circumstances, but that is not a ‘get-out-of-jail-free-card”

His team. his players. His formation. His tactics. His results.

  12. finbar42 00.36- Brilliant stuff. One of the best scenes in British film history, where Naismith learned his diving skills and modelled his receding hairline.

This proves you are thinking with your heart and not your head.

Our biggest problem as a support.

  15. When the board eventually hangs our manager out to dry, they will have achieved what no-one else in our great wee country has been able to do.

It will be a great day for a bigoted society to see the last of Neil Lennon…….our Neil Lennon.

Always meant to ask where in sydney youlive. Lived in Sydney from 1990 till 2003 when family commitments saw me return to glasgow.

used to belong to the Wullie Malloy CSC which had monthly meeting at the North Sydney Leagues club. Many an early morning drinking session was had whilst watching Live games with an evening kick off, The club was run by a guy called Matt Sawyers. Have you heard of him?

Good days, I envy you still living in the lucky country but the way things are going hear i can see me returning before too long, still have the aussie passport.

    PS came on the Wallabies.

Never mind CFC restructure what about CQN restructure?

Happy clappy CQN and not so happy CQN..?

Then we can all agree with each other and stop some of the very ‘un Celtic’ like sniping that is increasingly characterizing the blog?

Alternatively.. We can exchange differing views like grown up people?

  19. Bjmac I only bet on sure things

Not changing the rules. A centerhalf wins headers and a striker scores goals

As I said. We won’t sign them as long as lawell is there

This board will drag us down and down, they have no plan, no ideas

If seats were empty they would indeed move on

To continue to back them brings great harm to our club

I’m well thanks. How are you?

I enjoyed today, believe it or not. There is many questions to be answered by this young team, but I saw something today. I saw a young team being given a hand by a support. I believe we can still win this league.

As I mentioned, he is perfectly entitled to hold the opinion he holds – I have friends and family who hold that same opinion. However I don’t believe under any circumstances a Celtic fan should have “Sack Lennon” as part of their name on a blog. It is hunnish, at best. IMO it is disrepectful of a man who is one of us, who has given a lot to Celtic and is trying his best to be the best he can in managing our team, time will tell whether or not this is good enough. His blog name STINKS. I will say no more and communicate no more with him while he still has that addendum to his blog name.

I have no idea if your post on “Feelers, Thinkers and Doers” was the last one you made in reference to me, but in answer to that I withdraw my offer of going for a drink with you.

I have no intention of drinking with a patronising psuedo-intellectual who, instead of fighting for this club’s heart and soul is banging the drum for the people who have got us here.

No intention at all. I dont’ care the regard in which you are held on here, by some of your mates. When you come onto this site today, with Motherwell ahead of us by one point, and attempt the argument that it might be a good thing that other sides are rising to our level that insults the intelligence of every single poster, and is a statement so ridiculous it can only inspire my contempt.

You did the same yesterday by equating the votes in favour of Lawwell and Desmond and co. as proof that they still have the support of the fans. I find it offensive.

Furthermore, I do not care how active you are off the field. I don’t know precisely which of the three categories you think you are in, or would place me in, and nor do I care.

I am done with talking to you. There is no sense in it. It is a waste of my time, and I have better to do with it than talk to a brick wall.
