Best wishes to Ki Sung-Yeng who joined Swansea City today. The Korean international joined Celtic in January 2010 but the subsequent arrival of central midfielder Beram Kayal, Joe Ledley and Victor Wanyama, curtailed his first-team opportunites.
Ki possesses excellent technique and can cover 50 yards as quickly as anyone at Celtic but he often failed to impose himself on games. Selling a reserve player with 15 months left on his contract for a fee of around £6m is truly remarkable. I am one of the players many admirers but I don’t know anyone who would pay anything like that money for him.

A wee fact re him though is that had the board coughed up he Payton would have been with us in 89.
Celtic’s then chief scout had been watching him for a while and recommended him to Big Cesar who went to the Board to get funds to buy him.
These were not forthcoming…….otherwise he wouldve been in the Hoops back then.
But the Chief scout didnt give up and Liam Brady was given the money that Cesar wasnt!

As with all Celtic players, I hope Dave Ki moves on and does very well in the future.
I remember just how good he was in the 2-2 each game at Ibrox in the Cup when we really needed the Bhoys to dig in. That day was massive and Ki was unbelievable, his stats that day were pretty much close to perfection.
I must admit I am slightly disappointed in the figure mentioned because the guy is a seriously good player but as long as we have added in a good sell on clause (anyone know?) then it makes excellent business sense.
Celtic, if selling to Swansea, should definitely be asking for 20% IMO. I had hoped he would have signed a longer deal than 3 years, especially as Sky are saying it is Swansea’s record signing. I wish he had signed a 5 year deal. ;)
