Legends, history, £6k and tens of thousands of Celtic fans

1401

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 9-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day at Aberdour in Fife, yesterday.  The event, auctions and raffles leading up to it raised £6000, the bulk of which will go to the 1254125 appeal, while some will go to Clic Sargent, who help families with children with that dreadful disease.

Lisbon Lion, Willie Wallace, and his wife Olive, were fantastic guests, who enjoyed spending a day with 70 or so friends.  It doesn’t matter how far away Lisbon Lions live, you always find them the same way.

My sincere thanks to everyone who came along, bid of the auctions or bought a raffle ticket, all in aid of people you will never know. Thank you from all of us to John, Kevin and John, for their stressful work in pulling the event together, for the ninth year!

125 years ago a handful of people, living in a community devastated by hunger, destitution and TB, but who could make a difference, decided they would make a difference.  As a result, Celtic was born.  Celtic is not just something to brighten up your weekends, it’s not purely there to build friendships or to create common-interests across the generations, it is a movement you are required participate in.

The clarion call to all Celtic fans this year is to do more than just put your hand in your pocket, the spirit which gave birth to the concept of Celtic will only survive if those who can get involved, inspire a fresh generation by doing so.

Go register for 1254125, and commit to doing something to raise £125.  It can be anything.  You can walk a 1888 meters, go to the barbers and get a baldy to celebrate the signing of Amido Balde, it doesn’t need to be as ambitious as the 150 brave souls who right this very moment are atop Ben Nevis about to undertake the world’s highest huddle.

If you believe in this club, don’t leave it to someone else to take care of what’s important.  The same goes for your season ticket.  It has been over a century since we have been as close to the founding spirit of our club, but the sporting dramas which inspire us all are not achieved by new strikers, they are the fruits of tens of thousands fans buying season tickets.

Go stake your claim on Celtic.

Anyone referring to me as a subsidy junkie would wish that they hadn’t.

Same anytime someone says something which is factually wrong.

The independence debate should not be decided by soundbites and insults,it is more important than that.

However, that approach has been enough for SNP to win the last two Scottish elections,so I am not likely to be surprised if they stick with it.

I hope people vote with their brains ——. is there anything tangible on offer / or is the argument simply more Fran and Anna and less Chas n Dave on the radio.?

Just had a wee look at virgil van dijk on youtube

Video is mainly of him in the other teams half scoring goals

While thats all good and well. ..we need a centre half who can defend … goals are a bonus.

Anyone know if hes quoted as a good solid stopper

  6. The Boy Jinky

The fan site I was on are saying he is their best defender however that doesn’t tell us much I suppose. He was the club’s POTY last year. He does look powerful though.

Well I thought the poem was rather good and I am far from a convinced ‘yes’ man. The standard of public debate regarding independence has to date been abysmal – with the view south of the border being epitomised by the talentless lout Ray Winstone when he presented Have I Got News For You.

  10. Next time ye enter the voting Booth, think aboot this:

“Me? I certainly NOT, vote for a Candidate, because I Admire his or her, political Views… I vote for He or She, because He or She, is the Representative of a Particular Political Party.

Furthermore,I do Not vote for the Party, because it represents my own Political Views.

I vote for the Party, to prevent it’s Opponent,in this Political race, from being elected.

    In other words..

I never vote FOR a Party..

I always vote AGAINST a Party!!!!!

    For..

    NEITHER PARTY,in Point of Fact..

    REPRESENTS MY OWN POLITICAL VIEWS~~~~!!!!!”

Does any of that Make Sense?

    Of Course Not!

    Howevahhhhhhhhhh..

Next time you visit the Voting Booth, and…before you cast your Vote… think about what I just wrote..

And ..then, Tell Me if I am wrong.

What are YOUR solutions to the problems, and what have YOU done about them?

For example, has a Petition been organised, to: lobby the SFA; lobby the Celtic Board; boycott the Scottish Cup; boycott William Hills; boycott Celtic Park; demonstrate at the next Scotland International (possibly at Celtic Park – tbn) – as well as others? – to name a few. I am not suggesting any particular one or all of the above, just possibilities. As has been said many times before, the only leverage available is money and that is the one thing (only thing?) that will concentrate minds. Just saying like. I don’t for a moment suggest that I have solutions, but it would be good to air constructive proposals to move us forward rather than interminable discussion and acrimony.

Will be nice to see you for a few in the afternoon. Hospitality not necessary, we’d just get thrown out anyway.

On a personal note, sad to read of your beloved uncles passing. May he rest in peace.

Young chris going through the mill at present. My dads sister is very ill. She is the only remaining member of my dads family. 14 brothers and sisters and she is the last remaining. Very very close to chris. He’s spending his life at her bedside. I’m taking him to the races whether he wants to go or not!

He is a diamond of a lad. Sent me a very emotional Father’s Day message. He’ll get his reward in heaven for sure.

I think that the level of debate on this blog re. Scottish Independence is, for the most part, higher than in MSM. Snake’s poem articulated my feelings quite well but I do agree that there is a strong anti Irish/Catholic sentiment at large in Scotland. Yet those who are the most vocal against Irish/Catholic/Celtic views are themselves the most abusive detractors of the Yes campaign. I mean, if we have the Tories, the zombies, and Ray Winstone in one camp, logic dictates I should be in the other.

Even if we are to have a slightly lower GDP per capita following independence, which is highly debatable, I am still more inclined to vote Yes.

Should there be a Yes vote, the raison detre of the SNP is accomplished and our politics would resume along left/right lines. Should the zombies try to play the orange card, a la 1913, it would fail dismally. Who is going to follow follow the zombies?

My gut instinct, though, tells me there will be a No vote. Shame.

Enough politics! The close season is murder. HH

  24. So Man U have made their move, bidding war, bidding war, bidding war, didn’t narcs ask to be updated if any bids were made ?

  25. I’m thinking those most vocal advocates of independence on here are not RC and therefore don’t really care about the treatment of RCs under the existing regime.
