Leigh Griffiths in Dalglish footsteps with McLeish

243

I don’t think I have ever known an international manager to admit that one of his players has blanked him and not returned phone calls, but Alex McLeish confirmed this is his status with Leigh Griffiths.  Leigh was dropped for Scotland’s last internationals.

McLeigh asked the player proves himself, but Leigh has nothing to prove at this level.  He is without doubt the most complete Scottish striker in the business right now.  It suits Celtic fine if he is allowed to rest during international breaks, as those times apart, he is likely to plan two games a week until the middle of December.

Celtic greats have sat on the Scotland substitutes bench, while lesser players are honoured, for the best part of a century.  This reached a depressing peak in 1976 when Scotland manager Willie Ormond dropped Celtic’s Kenny Dalglish to the bench for the Home International against Wales.  Had Kenny played, he would have matched the Scottish record for consecutive games played, then and forever held by former Rangers player, George Young, but a Celtic player was never going to be allowed that honour.

That was the only game in his entire Scotland tenure that Ormond did not use a substitute.  Dalglish was needed for the next game against England, where he scored in a Scotland win.  The matter is not acknowledged at the Hampden Museum.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Great Scottish Run appeal for the Celtic FC Foundation.  It was a great event and an honour to wear the Foundation badge.

  1. Auldheid,

has the QC- the minister for sport and culture been appraised of the Res 12 info

  2. Celtic have written to the SPFL to demand they are not automatically sent to Murrayfield in the latest twist to Betfred Cup semi-finals farce.

The row over the last four showdowns blew up again last night after cops U-turned on their decision to shoe-horn more than 100,000 fans into Hampden on the same day.

Record Sport broke the news online yesterday afternoon that a new plan is now under discussion to move Celtic’s showdown with Hearts across the M8 to Murrayfield for a possible lunchtime showdown in the capital.

And the proposal would also lead to Aberdeen’s Hampden last four clash with Rangers – which had originally been allocated a high noon kick-off slot – being put back to a mid-afternoon start instead.

    One Malloy

Shite result but company Munchen and Allianz Arena were all magic.

Need to do similar soon H.

    Love to you and S.

  4. So am I understanding this right. Not only do they want the Celtic game to move but then they want our game to be the early game causing travel difficulties for Celtic fans.

This is beyond farcical and once again shows the contempt we are held in. Turkeybhoy the Celtic board have gently written to them.

    Absolutely pathetic.

I longingly wait a statement from Celtic, saying that they are scunnered, and hand in their notice to SPFL to seek pastures new from next season.

  6. Leg 1 of the mission of magic completed….but not without its moments of madness.

Salzburg may lie just beyond the horizon of dreams, but this first step from Sharkeys to Buchanan Street Bus station hinted at joys that lay ahead.

The 267 outside the Citizens was caught up in traffic behind the 6 which Maria had been waiting for…..for ages. Her plastic bag and teeming contents suggested that all may not have been well in her world.

With no prompting she turned and said….”My figure hugging black jeans will be the death of me…..fair enough that he ran off with you know who…but stealing ma jeans….beyond the effin pale….anyway we’ve been given an eviction notice ….who actually like a Somerston”

Fortunately the number 6 arrived and I was spared the anguish that would possibly see the driver crash through the Vicky bridge to a watery demise in the shopping trolley infected Clyde.

Still…I’ve made it and though her name and my ultimate session would forever be inextricably linked….Maria…Austria…the sound of Music…the song that really kept repeating in my head was an old favourite from the 69/70 season…..”The Hills are alive with the sound of…..COLIN STEIN’S A BASTARD”.

    London next stop…Hail hail

    Matt

  7. The SPFL have lied on every aspect of this. The clubs were all happy. The Police were happy. The contractual agreement forced them to play the games at Hampden on that weekend.

    Sackings must follow.

  8. FATHER JACK,

Sackings too good for them.Hangings required.Failing that,a jolly good thrashing.

  9. Auldheid I see that Paul’s latest squirrel annoyed you too.

    Good.

You know my view throughout all,of this.

  10. TURKEYBHOY

I’m sure they will enjoy a jolly good thrashing down at the boys club, Lawwell included >)

  11. What is the Stars on

God bless Peter Lawwell. Keeping the green flag flying despite the malcontents begrudgers and naysayers

  12. I see Celtic have asked for a ballot?????

    Wtf?

    They expect a fair ballot.

    Laughable.

  13. Dungcaster’s first and only concern was getting the huns to Hampden, on a pitch that wasn’t ploughed. If the huns do go to Edinburgh, watch for a vote of no confidence in her.

  14. The French striker left the field with a dead leg before half-time in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Aberdeen after a tackle by Scott McKenna.

Brendan Rodgers branded the challenge – unpunished by referee Bobby Madden – “reckless”. Kieran Tierney revealed his team-mate has shaken off the knock and returned to first-team training and will be in contention for the Group B match in the Red Bull Arena.

The Celtic defender said: “Odsonne is back in training and is fine.

  15. Neganon2,

so if Celtic had just accepted being moved to Murrayfield would you have been happy,

what exactly can they do here.

  16. Surely to feck the favouritism and handshakes can’t get their way on this one.

First out the hat gets the hampden draw!

Only the Celtic supporters lose out here….

Monkeys don’t travel, the mini monkeys get practically a homer and fair play to the sheep the will get a decent kick off time.

  17. Neg…

A toss of a coin then, we’ve been lucky in the past that way.

Then again it’ll be a 2 headed one and their shout I’d imagine. :((

  18. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

Auldheid – good luck. I salute your indefatigably unthreading the actions of this cabal of cheats, thieves & liars

Murrayfield – worth pointing out that no official statement mentions a specific match moving. Sevco fans in the media have spun it that way to set the agenda.

Willie Haughey -with regard to the above, how do you feel about “doing it for Glasgow” in September only to be shafted in October? £2.5 million well spent? He he

    Hail hail and good night.

  19. Sips/DD, aye München was great but I think you pair picked up some bug from those Supa Mega Fuglies in the Blane Valley then immunocompromised yourselves with all that drinking in München. ???

Too much to hope that Bayern end up third in their group and drop into the EL where we’ll be waiting for them?

Just back from Oktoberfest where I wore a Celtic top which was warmly greeted by the locals to shouts of C’mon the Bhoys.

I was also in the company of a München 1860 fan who told me his kids got no end of stick in school for not supporting Bayern so Celtic became their European team. He was a guest at my table

  20. The sfa, as usual have screwed up spectacularly with the cup fixtures. They are now desperately trying to wriggle their way out and predictably, are trying to paint Celtic the bad guys.

They get their friends in the smsm to run with unsubstantiated stories, look out for “a source” or “is believed” tales.

The us v the the minis at Murrayfield hasn’t happened, so how can Celtic ask for a ballot?

The sfa would prefer us to be inconvenienced and the sevvies to be placated to be the outcome, and are trying to “manage” the chain of events to solve their problem – think the Nimmo enquiry

  21. No ghordybhoy they do not accept. They point out that if the SPFL get their way by far the most inconvenienced supporters are Celtic supporters and we will not be treated as second class citizens (then again the board treat us like second class citizens themselves). We were first out the draw so do it that way.

  22. Southside- the script from Day 1 ,was the huns game first at Hampden, us and Hearts irrelevant, I’m sure fat Jabba’s lackeys are on the payroll at the SFA,the narrative from this afternoon was always our game going to Edinburgh, why? Will Dungcaster use Police Scotland again, saying we will have to go to Murrayfield? Why did Police Scotland say they wanted the huns v Sheep game was first on,what was the reason? Did PS say this,or did Dungcaster say this, as he thought he could get away with it unchallenged? HH
