Leo lots to do to match Diego

771

Netherlands thumping Spain 5-1 seems like a season ago.  We’ve had 24 different World Cup-match days since then, during which time most of us have watched close to a season’s worth of football.  The dethroning of Spain, in such dramatic fashion, was an early portent of what we were in store for.  Brazil’s humiliation at the hands of Germany provided one of the most memorable football events of our times.

While everyone seems to have nominated the competition as the best ever, the football has been of variable quality.  Lots of strong football countries failed to show, including Spain, Italy and England.  Africa promised early on, then fell.  Russia gave no indication they were on-schedule to give the performance of a lifetime when they host the tournament in four years.

Brazil reached the semi-finals but this will surely be known as one of the worst Brazilian teams ever.  Argentina have reached their first final in 24 years ago, but I can’t figure out how they made it.  Performances against Bosnia, Iran, Nigeria, Switzerland, Belgium and then Netherlands never convinced we were watching eventual winners.  The best they have achieved, so far, is a single goal victory.

Belgium’s golden generation were a mere shadow of their less-fancied Dutch neighbours, who under-promised and over-delivered, again.  Germany are the team who deserve to take the trophy, and although Lionel Messi finds himself in a World Cup Final this evening, on the basis of what we’ve seen over the last four weeks, he’s no Diego Maradona.

Enjoy the final, the real stuff starts in two days.

Legalized fraudsters, the wealthy avoided paying their fair share of tax enjoying all the privileges life offers being protected by governments who are equally guilty of noses in the trough, expenses scandal…………………..

The answer is to switch it round completely, for all tax-avoidance schemes to have to prove their legality before implementation.

Not just a tweak in the law, real regulations on those involved in tax avoidance and as you state above, i would also start with telling those who are in these schemes you have committed fraud on your tax bill, full remittance of tax owed plus a fine with a term in jail

If its good enough for those who fraudulent claim benefits……………….

The problem is that the system is rigged in favour of those who can exploit the loopholes.

HMRC’s best legal teams are up against the “best tax advice money can buy”

… expertise within HMRC is often lured over to the dark side by the offer of huge salary increases….

and before the ink is dry on the legislation to close down tax loopholes the next set of loopholes are being exploited.

It’s an arms race that the HMRC are losing

We ( the PAYE tax payers ) are funding lifestyle of the mega rich.

    THE ONLOOKER

Precise and concise interpretation of the way that tax law is currently structured.

And it is so structured to enable fraud-in a moral if not entirely legal definition-to be perpetrated against every one of us.

I said on here a few years back-and have said it elsewhere for years,as have others-that everyone should simply be taxed on earnings in the UK as PAYE and take their chances after that.

Via allowances which have been cleared by HMRC,not those which haven’t been outlawed.

I reckon it is highly duplicitous for politicians to criticise the efficacy of HMRC when they force it to operate with both hands tied behind its back. And also to criticise corporations for only paying such tax as they need to under current legislation.

They have the power to change that legislation to something more acceptable but they don’t.

    Why?

Are they worried that companies who do business here will go elsewhere?

Hardly likely as the most obvious culprits are in the service industries, like Amazon,Starbucks,Vodafone, etc.

I think we probably know it won’t happen, but no point in ignoring it. Keep highlighting it. And avoid companies-where possible-who continue to rip the pash.

Well, actually that would be impossible unless I lived in a tent in a desert island.

So make yer protest where you can.

  15. SCOTLAND will face England in a friendly international at Celtic Park as part of Gordon Strachan’s Euro 2016 plans.

Roy Hodgson is due to bring his side to the home of the SPFL champions on Tuesday, November 18 – only four days after the Group D qualifier against Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland at the same venue.

Strachan’s side have the opportunity to avenge the narrow 3-2 defeat to England at Wembley last year.

The Scots will kick off their Euro qualifiers with a game against world champions Germany in Munich in September.

I’ll pick this up as I think this is far more complicated than it looks at first sight and there are actually multiple things in the background to this but ultimately it boils down to one question.

There is the standard conversation about grandfathers etc not mentioning the war. Relatives always say that poor so and so must have seen and experienced some terrible things. They never say that so and so must have done some terrible things.

Celtic only need to abide by legislation.

If the police ask for information,Celtic should ensure that the request falls within the terms of that legal requirement.

The perception is definitely that the club has been far too accommodating in providing details for the most spurious of reasons.

Indeed, instead of providing details of fans who may or may not have breached the OB Act,they should use those details to contact the fans and offer to find an appeal to The European Court against an Act of Parliament which clearly contravenes European law.

And before any of you jump on your high horse nothing to hide nothing to fear, this site is full of people who can regale you with their experiences of police stitch-ups.

And that’s before we got hit with the double whammy of a law and a board making it easy for them.

  22. Steinreignedsupreme on

As well as causing the downfall of Rangers (in liquidation), controlling Scottish football, governing Police Scotland and instructing Israel to launch random rocket attacks on Palestine, Peter Lawwell did nothing at all to stop the Orange Order marching in Glasgow this year.

We are told we live in a democracy, a free society, you have a voice especially a club like Celtic can’t we speak out against Police Scotland ? what’s to be frightened of ?

I know if i was the CEO of Celtic FC, i would inform Police Scotland that any Celtic fan arrested at Celtic park who the club has evidence that was innocent of charges levelled against them would be fully supported by the club with their defence of the charges.

    Howdy,buddy!

Do you think Celtic have ensured at any stage much less every stage that every request for information is legally justified?

My personal opinion-and it is just that-is that they comply without question.

    That is wrong.
