Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted

574

I see a bit of ‘It was five years ago, get over it’ going around today. Let’s be clear, our football was corrupted for over a decade as a dependency on spending money you don’t have took hold at Ibrox, infected many other clubs, before sending Rangers into administration and liquidation.  And that’s not touching side letters hidden from HMRC, shredded correspondence and hundreds of games undertaken with incorrectly registered players.  It was a very human tale of avarice and a desire to be seen as top dog in the social pecking order.

For 8 years before Administration Day the Cassandras on here who predicted what was to come, were also told to get over themselves, that as club as big and powerful as Rangers would always find someone to bail them out. Some of us were predicting the crash and burn a lot longer than that.

What I don’t read is ‘Get over it, the lessons have been learned’, because it is painfully obvious that at Ibrox, with the same directors in charge as before liquidation, prioritising financial security (for the club, that is) hasn’t happened. Every passing transfer window it’s also plain that we have more than a few adherents to David Murray’s ‘speculate to accumulate’ policy in the comments section.

So until the lesson has been learned (and a long time thereafter), I’ll reserve the right to recall the facts and financial reality, and to celebrate that great day: 14 February 2012, the first Administration Day at Ibrox.  If one day you read Newco statements that say, “We’re going to match expenditure to income, and be happy with who we are”, it could be the last admin there, but don’t hold your breath, this turkey has another turd to drop.

you fupped up, you had it all and you messed up, you don’t even know why, you haven’t even asked the question why, you went bust, you are a new club, get over it and get on with it , it was 5 years ago

  2. Celtic Mac

We can only speak for ourselfs, we can’t speak for those who have suffered for being Celtic supporters in scotland, those who have had their throats cut for daring to wear a Celtic top, those who have been kicked to death for wearing a Celtic top, those who have been permenantly disabled due to stabbings, beatings for wearing Celtic tops.

Aye Celtic are all the better for being in scotland, not in my eyes mi amigo, not by a long way.

It’s ironic that it took an Irishman to found Celtic in a foreign country.

We are not wanted, that is a given.

  3. Not a popular opinion I suspect, but….

There is no way Scottish football could or should have shut out 50,000 paying customers. That would have been madness.

Ideally the SFA/SPL should have simply granted a special dispensation to allow the New Club access to the professional league structure at the bottom level. Such a tidy solution giving TRFC a unique privilege but still maintaining a level of integrity. The new/old club argument would not have arisen.

    Why did this not happen?

    Two main reasons I think…..

Charles Green may be innocent to some extent. I believe it mattered not a jot to him whether it was old or new club but he wasn’t going to accept new club AND accept the football debts of old club. It was the clubs owed money by RFC 1872 who insisted it was essential for their well-being that monies outstanding were guaranteed to be paid.

The five way agreement (whatever that is) is a consequence of the authorities/clubs having their cake and eating it. If I had been Chas Green there is no way I would have paid football debts if my club was being designated as ‘new’.

I find it hard to be critical of the likes of Dundee United where every penny is a prisoner. What would Celtic have done differently? Endorse the New Club option and disregard the clubs owed money? Never going to happen.

The possibility, maybe the expectation, of TRFC appearing in the second level of the professional league structure was stymied by the fan revolt so almost by accident the best outcome was achieved….TRFC at the lowest professional level but the 50,000 punters not locked out and lost and debts paid.

    So far, so ok. But…..

The scenario as played out gave sustenance to the Williamites illusion of same club and simultaneously annoyance to the followers of one club (maybe two) and 100 years of internicine sporting warfare. It’s realistic to argue that no other clubs followers were or are at all bothered .

What would you have done? Sent them into the wilderness and lose hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of pounds which Scottish football could never replace? Let them in as new club and left their football debts unpaid? Allow them to do what actually happened?

The lack of transparency is the real disaster. The SFA/SPL should have published all these options so the paying public were informed and the clubs making the decisions could be held accountable to both fans and shareholders.

How different the perception of events would look now had this openness triumphed.

Just some personal thoughts. May be valid or seriously not!!!!!!

  4. Tonight, I had a romantic meal with my darling wife of thirty years.

I’m now watching the Barca v PSG match (at her insistence – should I be worried?).

I’m also enjoying the fifth anniversary of a major sporting event. What’s not to be happy about.

    Good mhan CORKCELT.

Cracking game. Loving the intensity from PSG. Verrati and Raboit outstanding.

If Barcelona don’t score tonight I think they will go out.

Best opportunities could be getting the full-backs forward. PSG’s back four are defending along the width of the box. Meunier has been caught 2 on 1 a couple of times when Alba has got forward.

  7. Thirds63,

    Good post.

Even when it was obvious liquidation was coming, not for one minute did I think we wouldn’t see Them again.

Sadly, there is a market for a bigoted club, based in Govan, and I think most of the clubs in Scotland were probably pleased Green reinvented them (although I’m sure they also felt RFC completely deserved to be liquidated).

What grates is the complete about turn by the SMSM on the “new club” issue. How they can go along with this lie when they all reported correctly the reality of the club’s liquidation in June 2012 is, frankly, breath-taking,

But I suppose a sign of our ant-truth, post-factual, times.

  8. Agree with those who’d rather focus on us and only give thems a passing glance (to laugh at it). We’re experiencing something special at the moment, the domestic run is incredible when you actually pause and think about it.And it’s been a long, long time since we’ve had such an array of top performers in the team;Kieran,Broonie,Armstrong,Rogic,Forrest,Sinclair,Dembele being the pick of them. It’s always a good time to be a tim but it’s going through an enhanced spell just now.We really should just lap it up.

    21 :),

That’s a fair argument and one I’ve considered I must admit, a couple of things that counter are,

The SFA was responsible to ensure those debts were paid, we seen this week a rumour that they acted as guarantor connected with Barton, a power they possess through the Memorandum of Association, they can clubs debts at their own discretion. So the SFA where duty and honour bound to ensure other clubs did not suffer financially due to their own malfeasance and that is the point here the SFAs malfeasance. They were responsible to ensure no club could cause so much financial devastation. They had known for years and allowed it to happen. So no financial loss to the clubs then :) that argument knocked on the head. :)

50,000 supporters, let’s get this right, 50,000 max at ibrox is no loss to anyone else except in cup games (home:) that’s a fair we wedge ok. Away games ? 8,000 is the max away support at Celtic Park (bar Hampdump), we watched other SPFL teams increase numbers I expect all through their absence, clubs improved their own administrations and learned to live within their means in spite if the example set by the SFA and rangers. Had the SFA been cleaned out those lost would have easily been replaced by people returning to a clean game and the Huns would have either taken their “love of football” to clubs in their local area or take up another interest, even set up a club the would have to apply to go through the proper process. So 50,000 supporters would not be lost that is a bigger lie than same club.

Nil By Mouth have a survey on strict liability out that is so biased it should only have one question and two answers- Q- Do you want strict liability introduced- answer options yes and yes. Please complete it and let them know how flawed their idea is- http://nilbymouth.org/2017/fans-survey-launched-on-strict-liability/

For the avoidance of doubt dear readers how many of you CQN’rs believe that if the huns hadn’t beaten Celtic on penalties in the Scottish Cup last season that any of this would have happened?

  13. HT- if we ignore it their SNP masters will use the findings as proof of their manufactured demand for strict liability- its worth letting them know how keech their idea and survey is.

FAC will be advising on future actions soon to combat the continuing criminalisation of football supporters. Follow that, though I do take your point about alerting the SNP to our feelings.
