Living within your means still resisted

Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative at Uefa has been one of the more inspiring developments at the top of our game for decades.  It brought spending into line with income throughout the English game and punished what Platini called financial doping.

It has been so effective, Platini now promises to relax the rules.  The blame does not all sit with Platini.  Uefa are dealing with 10 legal challenges to the rules, with complainant clubs citing European Law in their defence.  The big football powers are split.  The English appear in favour of FPP (Manchester City aside), while many stressed clubs across Europe are in opposition.

The concept of living within your means is still resisted in our game, not just in barred hold-outs in Scotland.

Today, Celtic is the strongest football club in Scotland.

Is it the most powerful entity? Perhaps not…

For example, we were deprived of a treble this year because powers above decided it wasn’t to be.

Three years ago CFC had the chance to expose and expel the likes of Olgilvie, and with the help of the other clubs (thaink Turnbull) and the full backing of the Scottish fitba fan base, and kick the old regime out.

For whatever reason, we didn’t do the needful.

Incredibly, Ogilvie and Co are still there.

Next season, we will reap what we didn’t sow.

Some ammount of hysteria on here. Some ghuys could do with hoing for a long walk to calm down.

Just because there is corruption in Scottish football is no reason to commit hari kari. Should we have packed it in before we went to Lisbon.

Belfast Celtic are only a memory. Glasgow Celtic have a lot of new memories to generate yet and new heroes to find.

The tricolour stushie does not compare well with this.

Bob Kelly chose to defy them over an illegal requirement dressed up as SFA rule. The SFA made fools of themselves over that mess. Something they still seem to do.

If the SFA told Celtic today to take down the Story of Celtic banners from around the ground…now that might be closer to a reliable compare and contrast exercise.

That was also the old board too, you know the one that repeatedly sold our best players in their prime, ran the club solely for personal gain and had to be forced out. Bob Kelly, in the eyes of many, also ensured that the team only achieved such limited success as they did during his control, in spite of him not because of him.

Compare and contrast like for like always works best for me.

    Hope you are well.

  14. All King will do is organise a Share Issue, he will dress it up as his way of giving Sevco back to the fans but in reality he will just go out with the begging bowl and he won’t collect much.

I do agree that the SFA are motivated by what they perceive as a need to revive “R*ngers*, and yes they are incompetent and weak willed. However what’s important is not what they do but what we the Celtic Support do.

If there was a Boycott of away grounds or Cup Competitions, I would have no problem with that but the main thing is that we become stronger and more united and that we support our Club to the hilt. What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger, and they can never kill us.

    HT,

If you or anyone attend a game, especially one involving them, you are automatically validating their existence: unless you are only there to support Celtic.

By validating their existence you or anyone are also condoning the cheating and corruption that has led to their appearance.

As are Celtic and every other club competing in the Game.

This is not something that I particularly feel passionate about or consider myself being offensive and ignorant about.

It is, to my mind, a logical view to hold, however, I will concede that logic is not always part of the football supporters vocabulary, which I fully understand.

Derry City made a case to UEFA for resigning from the Irish League, so it can be done.

I don’t think that the game of Football would be prepared to lose Celtic.

However, that is all hypothetical opinion.

What is not, is that to continue to finance Scottish football is to condone the collective actions of Scottish football.

Some people can accept that, many can’t.

I think that is where a lot of the anger is coming from.

People don’t like being taken for fools…and who can blame tham.

Off for a walk between hail showers….or is it too late in the year for ice pellets.

    ——–

You’re right I am validating their existence but only in so much as they’re a football club who Celtic will compete against. There’s no acknowledgement of them as anything other than a rival, they are not ‘Rangers’ because that club ceased to be in 2012.

Derry City were afforded the opportunity to join another league but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Celtic would be afforded the same courtesy.

For me personally, it’s too great a risk.

I pay to watch Celtic and when we beat the cheats time and time again by winning games and trophies, I will love it.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Beat them and win. They’ll soon go away.

  29. The Green Man on

Its the stupidity of this “Wha’s Like Us” nonsense, that enables them to cheat.

There should be no place for cheating and corruption in Football, its as simple as that.

    Anything else…is just bs.

Its as if you want to be cheated ffs.
