Living within your means still resisted

Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative at Uefa has been one of the more inspiring developments at the top of our game for decades.  It brought spending into line with income throughout the English game and punished what Platini called financial doping.

It has been so effective, Platini now promises to relax the rules.  The blame does not all sit with Platini.  Uefa are dealing with 10 legal challenges to the rules, with complainant clubs citing European Law in their defence.  The big football powers are split.  The English appear in favour of FPP (Manchester City aside), while many stressed clubs across Europe are in opposition.

The concept of living within your means is still resisted in our game, not just in barred hold-outs in Scotland.

I pay to watch Celtic and when we beat the cheats time and time again by winning games and trophies, I will love it.

    ==========================

And when the cheats, cheat and win what will you do ?

Tom, ive no argument at all with you.

But there is no point in taking part in a rigged game.

Common sense would tell you that.

  3. The King over the water and Sevco are made for each other. Glad he’s been passed “fit and proper” lol. More jelly and ice cream to come. Come on big Mike you know you want to.

  4. thomthethim for oscar ok…

Personally, I thought it was a good point Ernie made.

The amount of appeasment and help the huns have/are having turns my stomach.

I’m Not on to slag PL or any supporters, how king can be found fit and proper by Scottish football is beyond me…

    By feck, what’s next!

Enjoy Sunday then on to five in a row \ o /

  8. Wouldn’t like to be an innocent man depending upon some of the guys on here to give me a fair trial!

With no concrete evidence they have already decided that CFC are to blame for the SFA passing GASL as fit and proper!

They don’t even know if PL was in the building but he is the man to blame!

Strikes me that they are overlooking the fact that the SFA is just that an association

of clubs – yes CFC are members but only one of 42. Yet CFC is supposed to have the power to over rule all the rest – that strikes me as a quite Hunnish attitude!

Ernie raised Bob Kelly’s threat to leave – of course in that he had the support of RFC and of course that made a huge difference IMHO

Today we would have far more to lose by walking away – even if we could.

Or do people really think we should follow Belfast Celtic in to oblivion?

I wonder how many who are so shocked at today’s stitch up voted SNP ?

Do they really think that if we had been independent in 2012 the old Huns would have be liquidated?

The whole stinking mess would have been swept under the carpet and they would still be in business today!

I really am in the wrong job. Do journalists and media men genuinely get paid for writing such guff.

My 3 year old niece can write a story with more substance to it. And she isn’t on 50k a year.

All, I am pleased to advise that our cycling team made it safely from Eileidh’s home town of Forres via Inverness to Glasgow cycling 214 miles, climbing just over 13,500 feet. Cycling from the North East into head winds and torrential rain made the conditions that bit more challenging but worthwhile as we managed to meet up with our little princess Eileidh (who just got out of hospital in Aberdeen on the Friday evening)

Along the cycle, Eileidh her family and the cyclists where inspired by the support from the following groups who helped promote the cycle and Eileidh’s big journey.

Forres Mechanics Football Club, who sent some players along on the Saturday and arranged leg waxing for their players on the Sunday. British 100 mile cycle time trial Champion, Calumn Finlayson.

Inverness Caledonia Thistle Football Club who allowed for us to make a bucket collection before their match with Dundee United, before having their manager John Hughes walk all of group around the Park just before the match.

Celtic Foundation who provided a welcoming media reception for Eileidh, family and cyclists to help promote Eileidh’s journey. This was further helped by support from Celebrity Footballer’s wife Lisa Hague and Xfactor star Nicholas McDonald who took time out from their charity own event to lend support.

    We enclose some photo’s that the team had managed upload so far;

Finally, as we aim to raise 100K to help Eileidh get her much needed treatment, we would like to thank all the folks who had donated / promoted awareness of Neuroblastoma Childrens Cancer.

If they can pass Dave King as fit and proper, believe me anything is possible, and I mean anything.

They have already shafted us for millions…..and PL and minions looked the other way, until some of the bhoys pointed it out to them.

They have run rings round PL.

  13. Captain Beefheart on

I don’t remember Labour doing anything about Oldco Rangers’ perverse signing policy.

  14. Doubt anybody will take notice to this but, before GASL paid his fine in SA, I am sure I read on here that he had 200 odd million to play with, so I think we might be in for a rude awakening

  15. Imo, we need to support Celtic. To me that means renewing my season ticket. I hope to goodness that next season sees us playing on Saturdays @ 3 o’clock regularly. If it doesn’t happen, I won’t be too happy but I will still be a Celtic supporter and season ticket holder.

I would support a bhoycott of each and every away ground for each and every game,SFA or SPFL, in Scotland. I don’t attend away league games nowadays,in part because I was sickened by the behaviour of some of our away support. So, I won’t be affecting things but I would be prepared not to go to Hampden for any match we were involved in and certainly if the deid team were involved.

If you think Scotland is going to change any time soon in their attitude to us (and, more pertinently the deid team), I think you’re in for a surprise.

If we could be accepted anywhere else,I would be delighted. Doubt it is going to happen any time soon.

Next time Celtic go to Ibrox or vice versa there will be a packed stadium to showcase on Sky,beamed round the planet.

The Scottish media as cheerleaders for corruption will be justified.

    Celtic can’t do a thing.

    It’s not brain surgery.

  17. bern….

TGASL, seems to be having difficulties in getting his money out of SA due to more charges forthcoming.

  18. An update on some of the work that the Celtic Trust has recently been involved in.

The Trust continually work to promote the interests of our members and all Celtic supporters for the good of Celtic Football Club, and we would like to update you on some of the current issues we are progressing.

The Trust AGM resolution on making Celtic a Living Wage employer: as of today we have still not heard from Celtic regarding their decision to consult staff on a wage increase. We will continue our campaign on Living Wage accreditation at Celtic and will update you on developments.

Membership renewals: as of January 2016, 50% of all membership subscriptions will be used to increase our shareholding in Celtic Plc.

Resolutions for 2015 AGM: the process for submitting resolutions to the Celtic AGM is lengthy and arduous. As usual we will be seeking membership support for the resolution requisitions in the near future.

Following incidents of heavy handed policing at the recent away match in Aberdeen the Trust will be conducting research into the legal position re policing of sporting events, and investigating the possibility of facilitating legal observer training for fans travelling to away matches. This is likely to come at a cost and we will be liaising with and seeking assistance from other fans groups.

    Fans against Criminalisation (FAC):

The Offensive Behaviour at Football matches and Threatening Communications Act must be reviewed before the end of August. So far none of the MSPs we have spoken to are completely sure of what form this review will take but have agreed to follow this up. FAC are campaigning for the voices of fans to be part of the review and updates on the work of FAC can be found on their website here http://fansagainstcriminalisation.com/

    Key points of note:

Petition against the Act stands at almost 6000. Please sign online and circulate to friends and supporters. There will also be an opportunity to sign before the final home match with Inverness.

A FAC public meeting will be held in the near future please watch the website for details.

Today the SFA demonstrated that they themselves are neither fit nor proper to govern football in this country. They have shown there is NO limit to the lengths they will go to circumvent their OWN rules on behalf of any club playing out of Ibrox stadium.

All pretence has gone, the game in this country is corrupt to it’s core.

  20. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Re comments about Burchill, in the old days when you collected tots at office and players came back to Celtic Park from training at Barrowfield ,it always amazed that he was first changed and away when he could only kick with one foot .End result never progressed ,could’nt be bothered to put in the time. Possibly not the worst but the one I saw all the time in those. Note to Delaney’sDunky Donkey: Big meeting of ‘brainy chaps’ here in Spain on the calming and curative effects of cannabis. Never saw your name mentioned among the professors and doctors

Anya tae Celtic for 4 million?

Fair enough if he pays us all in a one-er but I don’t think we should accept instalments.

  23. Captain B

Did we have parliament in Edinburgh – with a majority Labour government in those days?

Why did CFC not walk away in those days?

Do you really think that if the Edinburgh establishment were running HMRC in 2012 that all the things that have happened since would have gone down the way they have?

Many in Scottish football still cannot bring themselves to accept that the old Huns could have died.

If you really think that nothing has changed then that’s up to you. For me it’s quite simple – they died. This new club might have many of the old club’s supporters but many of them know it’s not the same club. They are now placing their hope in a guy called a ” glib and shameless liar” by a judge!

Poor old Bill Struth must be spinning in his grave that his good solid Calvinistic club is in the hands of such a man!

The summer has taken on an even rosier hue as we watch the next few episodes in the comedy saga!

  24. Well bern, There was nothing stopping him for investing some of his 200 million over the past 5 years. In fact he could have bought them for a pound and used his money to avoid Liquidation. With the 200 million pound man on board they could have kept their name, History and place in the Top Division, they could even have won a few League Titles. However the King kept his wallet in his pocket, what makes you think he is going to splash out now.

  25. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

They’ll be a big meeting in Spain about the curative and calming effects of cannabis because they can’t give their young yins jobs.

  26. The Green Nan –

Fair enough mate. I came on and scanned back and you were posting the same things over and over again and calling out fellow Tims who don’t do walking away. I got angry and reacted and got personal.

I apologise for the tone of my comment.

When I was a wee bhoy my dad, who supported Celtic through possibly the worst era in our history, used to regale me with stories of hun cheating and superiority. My mother told me how he often cried into his beer in the wake of humiliations at the hands of Rangers.

When Celtic won the cup in 65, I watched my dad cry like a baby when he hugged me and lifted me high above the celebrating crowd at Hampden. I realised then what Celtic meant to him and I inherited that passion. He and many thousands of long-suffering Celts got their glorious reward under Mr Stein’s guidance and leadership, starting with that sunny April day at Hampden.

Rangers were still the establishment team but they could not compete with us over many years.

My father is now a frail old man but fortunately he still has his mental faculties. He would probably forgive me if I stopped supporting Celtic for any number of reasons, but what he would never forgive was my turning my back on our club because of THEM.

He would never want them to enjoy that final victory over me or us, that they destroyed my love and passion for Celtic. There is no coming back from such a defeat.

I could not live with myself.

I have renewed 3 season tickets for myself and my 2 sons. Celtic will play close to 60 games next season. If Rangers gain promotion, we will play them a handful of times. I’ll attend the home games because I go to Celtic Park to support Celtic. I give not a shit about the opposition. I won’t ever go near Ibrox because I despise the place.

They mean nothing to me. A mere insignificance who, if and when we do play them, I will enjoy beating.

I won’t let them end my 53 year love affair with Celtic.

    NOT IN A MILLION YEARS.

  27. 21:01 on 19 May, 2015

    Sipsini

Didn’t read that about him, I really feel that we should rise to this sfa whitewashing of our game in Scotland, all Scottish football fans are getting kicked a sore one over this

  28. Hoop hoop Hooray on

A lot of folk on here with their knickers in a twist whilst I am walking about with a cheeky wee smile on my face.

See after murray whyte and green ruining the clubs they claim to support if I could have personally chosen their next saviour I would have endeavoured to find an even bigger crook but hey presto they did it themselves. And the fact they are in raptures about it makes it even funnier.

If i was on the SFA i would have passed the glib one fit and proper myself. I like taking the p*** out them!

  29. Forget about sevco forget about away games let’s pack out Celtic park starting on Sunday give the S F A Sweet F All

  30. Naebody is gonnae tell me ah shouldnae support Celtic onymare. And if I do, I might as well huv been oan the SFA board that approved GSL.

Aw this pish talk aboot leaving Scottish fitba sickens me. Sounds like berz wi big wooden spoons tae me.

Ah’ll keep supporting Celtic, in spite of all the crap that happens at SFA and Poundland. Doesnt mean I’m complicit, or that I approve of it all.

If Celtic were ever to walk away, then we lose, and they win.

The best revenge is to live well. And for the foreseeable future we will be doing so, and them will be nowhere near us.

    That’ll do me.
