Living within your means still resisted

953

Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative at Uefa has been one of the more inspiring developments at the top of our game for decades.  It brought spending into line with income throughout the English game and punished what Platini called financial doping.

It has been so effective, Platini now promises to relax the rules.  The blame does not all sit with Platini.  Uefa are dealing with 10 legal challenges to the rules, with complainant clubs citing European Law in their defence.  The big football powers are split.  The English appear in favour of FPP (Manchester City aside), while many stressed clubs across Europe are in opposition.

The concept of living within your means is still resisted in our game, not just in barred hold-outs in Scotland.

All that is left to salvage a vestige of integrity, is for Celtic to tender a notice to leave Scottish football.

    And go where?

    *****

In a football sense, does it really matter?

    You know what lies ahead.

The corruption will be cranked up, with no checks or balances at Ibrox.

So, where does that leave the rest of the clubs?

Playing supporting roles to the Almighty Indestructables.

But hey, it’s only Celtic I watch.

Would you or anyone sit at a crooked poker table?

I don’t think so, but the blind eye will be turned to justify the presence of the biggest cheats in World sport.

It would seem, going by the attendance at the LC Final and the SC semi that there are many skewed compasses amongst the Celtic support.

It may be more wholesome and provide a similar fix, if the support turned to the Ladies team, although the SFA have their paws in there too.

  2. Sevco need a minimum 30 million, just to get on an even keel.

A further 20 million, to try and get close to the standard of Celtic playing squad.

50 million, in a Scottish football environment that pays back hee-haw.

The Celtic business model is exclusive to us. Our existence and growth is supplemented by : 1) Champs league participation / money, or alternatively

    2) saleable assets, players of value up to 10/12 million.

Sevco have neither of the above. So someone willing to pump 50 million in, to achieve and gain nothing but growing debt…. Must be aff their heid. I.e not fit or proper.

    Wait a minute……

    “Hello team, would be looking for your help to spread the word about campaign;

“The 8th May 2015 will mark the first anniversary of our friend’s child, Oscar James Knox, gaining his Angel wings. To celebrate Oscar’s short but memorable life, we’ve organised a 223 mile bike ride over three days.

We’re using this opportunity to help another young child who desperately needs support: and fast. Eileidh Paterson needs £100K by June in order to receive specialised DFMO cancer treatment in the USA. That treatment is not currently available in the UK.

On Saturday 16th May 2015, the cyclists will leave Forres, Eileidh’s home town, bound for Inverness. There, they will take in the SPFL match between Caley Thistle and Dundee United, raising awareness of neuroblastoma, and in particular Eileidh’s plight, before setting off south to Glasgow, and Celtic Park, home of Wee Oscar’s favourite team.

We have set up this team page to raise awareness and much needed funds. Our team have a common goal to raise money for the Neuroblastoma Childrens Cancer Alliance (NCCA UK). The team are Steve Taylor, Kevan Lawler, Iain McGovern, Robert Campbell and Paul Muldoon.

We are football fans of different teams with a common goal: to make a difference for Eileidh in wee Oscar’s name.

The SFA are a joke – nothing new there.

If we had had the choice, most of us would have said OK for TGSL in charge of Sevco rather than Big Mike.

However, what I don’t want to see now is a deal between King and Ashley.

For me, that is THE danger.

The SFA will turn a blind eye…

Half a team of NU players, why not a full quota?

and – here under the table – a loan of several squillion – business is business, eh?

The Hun clumpany/cub is no longer listed – they can do what they like.

Today’s football, a bit like “Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative” is a lost cause for us punters who love the aul’ game as it was.

What’s the point of Hibs turning up tomorrow…?

  12. It is completely irrelevant to me if King puts in £50m or 50p he is deemed to be appropriate to be in a senior position on the board of a club by the governing body of football here, if all clubs accept this which I think they will, the game in my opinion is a bogey

All that is left to salvage a vestige of integrity, is for Celtic to tender a notice to leave Scottish football.

It won’t happen, of course, but it would fairly cause UEFA to sit up and make a comment.

I think that there would be a few leagues who would welcome Celtic.

Does anyone remember my mantra of BC or DC as the only honourable options open to Celtic?

    Was I wrong?

    ——

    Yes in my opinion.

There is no guarantee that EUFA of FIFA would step in never mind take notice. Resign and we open up the possibility of Celtic FC ceasing to exist.

I can’t and won’t condone any action which could lead to that Tom.

I really do find it offensive, and ignorant, that because I and thousands of others choose to attend SFA competitive matches that we’re in some way ‘pretending’ that it’s only done in support of Celtic.

I get that you feel passionately about this but with all due respect you’re in no position to make assumptions on the motives for others.

I’m happy to respect your opinions but please don’t be telling me and many others why we’re going to watch Celtic, I expect the same courtesy in return.

    HT,

If you or anyone attend a game, especially one involving them, you are automatically validating their existence: unless you are only there to support Celtic.

By validating their existence you or anyone are also condoning the cheating and corruption that has led to their appearance.

As are Celtic and every other club competing in the Game.

This is not something that I particularly feel passionate about or consider myself being offensive and ignorant about.

It is, to my mind, a logical view to hold, however, I will concede that logic is not always part of the football supporters vocabulary, which I fully understand.

Derry City made a case to UEFA for resigning from the Irish League, so it can be done.

I don’t think that the game of Football would be prepared to lose Celtic.

However, that is all hypothetical opinion.

What is not, is that to continue to finance Scottish football is to condone the collective actions of Scottish football.

Some people can accept that, many can’t.

I think that is where a lot of the anger is coming from.

People don’t like being taken for fools…and who can blame tham.
