Lock up game’s tax deviants

887

The football industry is busy with its twice-a-year transfer jamboree this week but there will scarcely be a player, manager or executive in the country who isn’t daily checking on Harry Redknapp’s on-going court case into his alleged tax arrangements.

Harry, of course, is one of the game’s popular figures, everyone likes him, including me, but his evidence yesterday, that he’s been told “The problem with you is you’re named Harry and you have a cockney accent”, will have the nation pondering if he’s another victim of the systemic prejudice against white, wealthy, indigenous-named, senior and successful people from London.  There must surely be a support group he can join.

I’m sure Harry’s innocence will be established but the law and tax authorities are right to pursue any doubt that exists in the running of the game, without fear or favour.  Where appropriate, pursue the guilty through criminal, not just civil, courts.  Only then will the innocent be sure of a level playing field. Lock ‘Em Up, as a Cockney may observe.

  3. I don’t understand the animosity and accusation of “choker” levelled at Andy Murray.

He is competing at a higher level in his sport than Celtic are currently managing in theirs.

He has never uttered a controversial word against our club or people.

Win or lose today, against a top class player, I’ll still be proud of his achievements. I do believe he can win a Grand Slam Final, probably in Australia or the US, if everything comes together for him. But regardless of whether he does, his record of semis and final placings entitles him to great respect.

And i don’t give a toss whether he smiles or not. He’s a sportsman not a TV personality.

Only know what I read on here, and it doesn’t look to good. Surprised that some of the more experienced CQNers haven’t tried to mediate in this dispute, I’m only a lurker but don’t like to see bad things happen to any Celtic fans. Anyway, before someone else tells me I agree this is none of my business, back to lurking.

It will be interesting to see if Jelavic plays tomorrow

I was told this morning he would be ‘injured’ for Saturday.

That would be the clearest indication yet that Whyte is taking the £5.5m bid from West Ham

Don’t think he’s a choker, he is arguably our greatest athlete of the last 4 or 5 years. He’s a bit unfortunate that he is around in an era when three of the greatest ever are in their prime. Any grand slam he wins, if he does, will mean a lot more because of that. Ability wise he’s as good as anyone but its the psychological side of the game that he still trails the other three. Ivan Lendl joining Team Murray is the masterstroke that will make the difference.

    Spot on Sir.

Andy Murray is Scotland’s only world class sportsman currently competing. The talent and work required to get to that level and sustain it is stunning.

It’s his fate to be up against perhaps the best players the game has ever known.

A little belief and some ruthlessness will I’m sure deliver the titles he craves.

  10. contacted a high street bookmaker the other day, requesting odds for a special bet,,,

the bet being that the current rangers manger would not be in charge of Rangers on the last day of the current SPL season,,

the odds on offer, a miserly 3/1 with a caveat of a maximum stake of £50,,,, ,,bets must be placed by 3 pm tomorrow to be valid,,

incidentally the same bookmakers have the same odds of 3-1 for the rotten mob tae take the league,,

If Murray wins a Grand Slam, i would say arguably he is the greatest Scottish sportsman of all time.As Kayal 33 said he is unlucky to be in an era with 3 all time greats.John Patrick McEnroe says Federer is the best player of all time,a wee measure of the level Andy is at.

In most other eras Andy Murray would have already won a major but with the 2 greatest players to have ever played the game still competing at the highest level, and another in Djokovic who has been in scintilating form this past 12 months, he’s just very unlucky.

If he does win a major while these 3 are still competing, it will surely rank as one of the greatest achievements for any UK sportsperson.

Psychological weakness can be used as a bit of a catch-all, after all how do you prove it? You could look at his record of winning big ones and suggest he lacks mental strength but his record wouldn’t look any different if we accept he is not yet as technically good as his 3 rivals.

Sure Federer, Nadal and Djorkovic look more like “steady Eddies” when they play. They are fairly unflappable and less emotional. But McEnroe, Connors and even Becker all reached the top with that competitive rage inside them.

I think he’s a top class player but he is justifiably ranked 4th in this era and , even if he wins a slam or two, is unlikely to dominate in the way Federer and Nadal have done, or even have a 2 year spell like Djoekovic has had.

Still a major achievement by a Scots athlete.

None of the other CQNers were subjected to the years long abuse and innuendo that I have put up with him and all his guises. Do you think for one moment that if I was just baiting him without due cause then Paul would allow it. Paul knows what has and is going on. Paul knows which of us has multiple logins, Paul knows that I have resorted to his games to wind him up and I won’t stop, not this year, not next and not the one after, until that/those person admit how they lied to and decieved the blog. I have the proof, Paul knows I have the proof, but I have a reason why Ijust don’t destroy his integrity.

The guy is a liar under many names, he abused several CQNers under different names, he abused our support, that is you and me, under various names, under various names he has denigrated by innuedno and lies. No, I’m not harrassing him and he knows I ain’t going to give up until I just decide one day to out him for the LIAR he is. I have sent the proof to a few people who post on here, they know I am telling the truth. They choose not to get involved, I am more than happy with that, it really does not involve them.

Why do I continue this on CQN? Simply because it was on CQN that guy publically started it and continued it for month upon month, I am happy to continue it for year upon year. The guy is a liar. Ask him to ask Paul if I am lying. And still I have his posts, linking posts over years, which validate all that I say.

Ask our poor friend what was he saying about Neil Lennon just a few short months ago. Ask him what bile he spewed at Arthur Boruc. Ask him, because he won’t answer me. He never answers me.

Chris Hoy competes in an event with many sub-divisions. Both Obree and Hoy and a few other Brits have managed to make a breakthrough in a less competitive sport (fewer participants in his sub-division). It’s a bit like our rowers, sailors and shooters- all marvelous achievements but in minority participation sports. We should have targeted events like weightlifting and Greco-Roman wrestling if we want to increase our haul of the cheaper medals at The Olympics. Much harder to get placed at tougher events like Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Skiing etc; where the field is larger and the standards gap to be jumped is greater.

Now, if Hoy won the Tour De France???

  21. I’m confused.

  22. Murray is a world class sportsman, absolutely no doubt about that. As highlighted though, Chris Hoy has a bagful of Olympic Golds and is still going strong so I’d give him the title of current top Scot in the world of Sport.

I would argue that the length of time Hoy has been at the top of what he does and general dominance makes him world class.

Looks like Uchebo was the 2nd player to walk away from Rangers after only a day

Uchebo’s agent is quoted as saying that when the player arrived TFPLG wasn’t even at the training ground

Now, with 3 key employees at the club having an ‘interest’ in 2 seperate player agencies, i wonder what their motive would be for all these trialists? ;)

My mate is just back from a cracking holiday in Thailand where he nearly had it away with one of them lady boys – looked like a lady, walked like a lady, talked like a lady and even kissed like a lady. It wasn’t until she drove them back to her place and reverse parked the car into the space first time when he thought….hang on ……wait a wee minute!!!
