Losing players on your own terms

894

A quick straw poll suggests we’re happy with £2m for Adam Matthews, although Sunderland will be happier, having signed what is likely to be a first team player for what is a bargain fee in the English league.  For Celtic, the player had only a year left on his contract, and was not first choice when Mikael Lustig was available.  On other occasions we would struggle to get £500k.

A few factors supported Adam’s marketability and price.  He is part of a successful Wales team who are likely to reach Euro 2016.  Scouts from all over Europe watch Wales and it’s unlikely you’d be able to sign any of that team for less than £2m.

There’s also the Joe Ledley and Victor Wanyama effect.  Joe and Victor were Celtic contemporaries of Adam and both are solid performers for EPL clubs.  Don’t even ask me about what’s going on with Daryl Murphy at the moment, as it beats any rational explanation I can come up with.

Having 20 hugely wealthy neighbours comes with lots of problems, but if we are going to lose players to England, it’s better to lose them on our own terms – when we are in a position to start a fresh building process, than have events overtake us, as appears to be happening at Tannadice this year.

Enjoy events this afternoon at New St Mirren Celtic Park.

Currently searching for an article on how Islam has dealt with the “death to everyone at any price” strand of thought.

IS and their worldview has been faced down by mainstream Islamic thought in the past.

If it hadn’t the religion would have killed itself out a thousand years ago.

The Islamic expansion / empire was all about growth and not thought purity.

Thanks for the support. The Isis mob, and that’s what they are, the gangsters of the Arab world. They will execute and kill civilians at random. That is the fear they put in to any society they decide to invade. Selective air strikes and eventual nueks has to be the answer. Hiroshema must be the lead here. How many lives were saved due to this slaughter. Good to talk again buddy. Hahaha.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Isis and Islamic extremism must be faced down internally by the broader Muslim community

I dunno the answer,do we hold back because of a few innocents?

And spare a multitude of madmen who are hellbent on killing everyone who disagrees even slightly with their views?

How do you square not taking them out because of a concern about collateral damage with the massacres that they then carry out?

This isn’t a question of right and left politics, nor a question of blame. This is a matter of right and wrong.

Innocent people have always died in the pursuit of right over wrong, and they will do again. But every day? Barbarically? Sadism, every step of their way.

Yes,it’s easy to say that I am unlikely to be part of that collateral damage,of course it is. But if we continue to wring our hands we are on the hitlist.

Weefrathe tim. Your view in my opinion is much to simplistic trying to wipe out ISIS by force would also condem thousands of innocent men women and children to death. We helped to create ISIS when we decided to invade Iraq we had no plans for the country after the invasion and we left it in turmoil. The way to defeat ISIS is for other muslims to step up and condem them and not to support them in anyway. If we adopt the we are bigger than you attitude you would find Russia taking sides and a World war could well be the outcome.I can understand your anger but the best thing you and I can do is to pray to the good Lord for peace. H.H.

  16. WeefratheTim on

Ok you pacifists, anti neuk guys, please post one iota of a plan to sort Isis out. Dialogue, forget it. These people don’t do dialouge. So come on with your thoughts that can end this European and Middle Eastern conflict.

It would take three German infantry divisions less than a week to annihilate that Satanic death cult.

Unfortunately their defeat isn’t high on the list of Western interests at this moment in time.

As I have said previously – look to the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia in particular. This where Wahhabism was spawned and where it has spread from, funded by the petro-dollar.

They have far too much money invested in the West and consequently far too much influence.

First course of action would be to close down or demolish the mosques where the hate preachers are free to spout their hateful bile.

I was a sports fanatic as a child and tried all sports. My teacher at primary school was into racquet sports. We used to play badminton in PE and she spotted something. She started a short tennis club at lunchtimes. I was right in there. After a few months she entered us all in the Scottish schools championships which were held in Bathgate. Now short tennis is a sponge ball with a plastic racquet a bit like a swingball racquet. I duly turned up in full hoops kit. I was out of place by a mile. Kids there had their own gear and some had their own coaches. My teacher pulled me aside and said you can win this. I laughed. You are joking? These guys are like pros. Nervous first match but won easy against some guy with the whites on and a choice of raquets which he changed regularly. Miles out my depth but by the 3rd match my confidence was growing. I didn’t get troubled until the quarters but squeezed through. Semis. Left handed and he beat me fairly comofrably and won the tournament. I won the 3rd place play off and stood with 4 Sampras clones for the photos in the hoops much to the annoyance of all the tennis punters in attendance who wondered who this rough kid was with a green tennis racquet marked with the school initials on it. Felt very proud for my experience and individual tenacity.

Got home and showed my dad the trophy and the fact I had been approached by tennis coaches and had been given numbers for free tuition. He snorted and said nobody makes money out of tennis! Concentrate on fitba.

    Never played a match again.

Here is a wee suggestion for you

Stop invading foreign countries, stop ripping off their resources

Read some history. If it was as simple as the guy with the biggest bomb killing all his enemies and living happily ever after wouldn’t it be great but every action has a reaction. Maybe the RAF should have bombed the be jaysus out of West Belfast and south Armagh, that would have shut up those pesky paddies.

    what about the fallout ?

and the twenty year cylcle of cancers.

Coming back from todays match we seemed to bump into a lot of oranges, both kinds, pips and pip free,

They did show a lot more anger and defiance than usual, it was if they were on a alcohol fueled hunt for unorange persons,

anyhoo it got me thinking about stats, percentages and other mathematical words,

So would it be possible to compare our emergency services busyness today compared to St Patricks day, or us winning the league,

Maybe the powers that be could sort out some sort of marching law,

Yes,mate. I did. And my fingertips burned as I typed. It goes against everything in my nature.

Killing innocent people, just to be putting the boot in to the guilty. Indiscriminately. It’s a horrible thought, and anathema to any right thinking person.

IS feed on the knowledge that we’ll do eff all if innocents are involved. Meantime they slaughter the innocents and display it on social media.

As I said earlier, there is no easy answer. We could go through an A-Z of solutions. But starting with A for Appeasement will not work. We’ll hit Z before they hit their stride.
