We’ll all be supporting Mikael Lustig and Georgios Samaras as Sweden and Greece attempt to qualify for the World Cup tonight but the prospect of Lustig, Samaras, Izaguirre, Ambrose, Forster and possibly van Dijk not having a break until July, days before the Champions League bandwagon starts rolling again, is unappetising.
Celtic contributed more players to the 1998 World Cup than any other team. Perhaps as a consequence, we started the new season in third gear, unable to string two league wins together until thumping five goals past a now defunct outfit. A Perfect Day.
Georgios, Mikael, Emilio and Efe are hugely important players to Celtic. They are also players we have an excellent chance of retaining, which in some respects makes it even more important that they are ready for action early than those like Fraser, who until he signs his new contract we can be less sure of retaining.
Best of luck to Greece and Sweden tonight, but if your guys return home disappointed there will be compensations.
Ross County have won the respect of many, and rightly so, for building a successful football club from little more than sticky backed tape and empty washing up bottles, but one of their key achievers, manager Derek Adams, has to be one of the most ungracious people in the top fight game, a fact now being picked up in the wider media.
It is unfathomable if this trait is a fundamental aspect of the club’s success. The clichéd football manager is an unapproachable tyrant but surely there’s more to it than that?
I’ve heard a good few footballers tell their tales of drama, they all have them, even the quiet ones, but it is an objective fact that Frank McAvennie has more stunning stories than anyone in the game. I’ve heard him tell some publicly, and then listened to the really incredible stuff privately.
The Untold Truth with Frank McAvennie, is at Victoria’s Night Club this Saturday 23rd. Doors open at 7pm for a three course meal, entertainment and Frankie recounting his stories. There will also be a sporting auction and a Q&A session. Book at www.franktalks.co.uk

Willie Young along with Joe Timmins (ex ref) are first to the fore for any charity doos in Kilwinning, I think that theyve been long standing pals of Jim Fleeting,
Willie would never profess to being a Tim but hes given his time freely on many ocassions for various charity events organised via St Micks, both are drinking partners of my older brother and both will testify the miserable git never puts his hand in his pocket.

Singing from the same hymn sheet. FM was the guest speaker (Sportsmans dinner) Irvine Celtic Supporters club a few years back. The VIP guest for the evening was the local parish priest, an honorary member. FM was lucky not to be physically removed from the event due to his tongue. I believe he was told he wouldn’t be back.
I have also had the pleasure to have been in the company of Paul Clarke, ex Kilmarnock brother of Stevie, he told some cracking stories, nothing vulgar just some good football stories.
But hope the FM evening is enjoyed by those going, but I’m no interested in who hes been with or every second F word or C word. It’s really not necessary but so common at these events and having listened to Mr Clarke can verify that.
Ayrshire is Green and White

Scott Brown , half a brain cell short of plant life. Another needless kick at opponent when ball out of play. Will he ever learn ? Scotland in first half like the hoops in Amsterdam.
Shortbread, including that wee scrot Nevin, giving Broonie pelters. Earned and paid; unfortunately.

Oh and another thing, a common vein in these events is the retired referee and the really funny stories of how they turned over Celtic, yet to hear a not so funny story about a former club being turned over by a retired ref.
Maybe its just Ayrshire events though, stopped going to them now, my sides couldn’t take it!
P.S I do like a laugh

Big Nan
One of the bonuses from that day was Bertie breaking big Provan’s leg. They were charging around like lunatics for 86 mins. There were 10 red white and blue puddings on th park that day.

I should probably not make this post.
No matter. I cannot change the habits of a lifetime.
The challenge of Bertie Auld ( a guy I love ) on Davie Provan that day was the most cowardly assault I have ever seen on a football field in my life.
I had a close-up view of it.
It was a totally unnecessary affront to decency.
More importantly, … Well done, BROONY.
Great goal, Broony !What a brain !

HowcanhenotdoitforCeltic! :)
I think Frank McAvennie must be the only footballer in the world ever to have played for 3 teams twice.

Mibbe the shiny boots…..according to my son CSC
I dogged school one Tuesday afternoon and I was in the Jungle and saw Bobby Murdoch scoring two against the deid lot as we won 3 – 2. Not sure what year but early sixties I think
Wallace,Sevco or not is far better than Mutton or Whatakicker at FB.
Greece score 4-1 up,plenty plates gettin smashed tonight, get Samaras off…
Can Gerrybhoy confirm he is alive and well?
Gerrybhoy
If your son’s logic is right? I hope Broonie has the shiny bits on against the Dons. :)
Celtic are set to complete the signing of
Icelandic striker Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson.
STV understands the 20-year-old has agreed
personal terms on a three-year contract and
will officially join from Fram when the January
transfer window opens.
Fridjonsson is in Scotland and will formally
complete his £100,000 move within the next
24 hours. Celtic also have the option to
extend his contract for a fourth year.
Although he is unable to formally conclude his
transfer until January, the Iceland Under-21
international, who scored 12 goals in 23
appearances for his club in the 2013 season,
will begin training with Neil Lennon’s side at
the start of December.
His representative, Olafur Gardarsson, spoke to
STV on Tuesday, with the player himself
reluctant to talk until his deal is concluded on
Wednesday.
“He is a striker that scores goals,” said
Gardarsson. “I think he is a very promising
player, to say the least.
“He is very delighted. He went on trial with a
club in Holland and he liked it there. But he
liked it here. He felt very welcome and he
obviously was liked by [Neil] Lennon, so he is
very pleased.
“He is confident. He knows he has to work
hard and the season in Iceland was over two
months ago. So he is not match fit. He knows
he has to work hard and it is not easy to walk
into a club like Celtic. But he will do his best.”
Despite the player’s relative inexperience,
Celtic boss Lennon believes he is capable of
pushing immediately for a spot in the first
team after watching him at close quarters
during a trial last month.
“He is one for the present,” Lennon said last
week. “He is a good player for his age, a good
size, we had him in for a week’s trial and were
hugely impressed by him.
“It is not a huge outlay but we think he is a
player who will get better and at 20, he has
very good potential.
“Technically he is very good, he is excellent in
the air, he leads the line very well and, for the
Scottish game, he likes the physical side of
thing as well.”
Brooooooooonie…………………….!
(sorry, just home)
BB
Agree Wallace is better than that pair of diddies. Robertson at DU is better than the three of them.
Broonie was 20/1 for first goal tonight. You’ll not get that against the Dons. I’ll stick to my usual Virgil, Effe and Charlie selections.
I was named after Bobby Murdoch, and never been called Bobby in my life.
