Many reasons not to play Carter-Vickers on Sunday

215

Cameron Carter-Vickers was rested for the second half against Hibs due to a tight hamstring.  Were we not two goals ahead, he might well have played on, but there was no point taking chances.  The same argument holds for Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Nat Phillips is more than capable of stepping into the defensive leadership role.  He is a competent and experienced professional who has played at levels none of the Kilmarnock side will ever reach.  Brendan Rodgers comments last week about Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki were more nuanced that the reported headlines.  The manager made the point that neither player have had an opening with Cameron and Liam Scales having established a solid pairing.  We have five fit central defenders; our top man has a tightness which could turn into an injury, but four are in pristine condition.

Whatever the perceived levels of Gustaf and Maik, they are is not a reason to leave them in the stands.  Celtic are a club which needs to take promising players from other environments and develops them into great talents.  This is the path we must follow, we cannot turn into a club which wastes players.

No risks with Cameron on Sunday, please.  There is lots for him to do before the bells toll.

  1. Would a decent footballer prefer Scottish honours or to perform well in arguably the best league in the world and to give his family a standard of living only available to a very small percentage of the population?

Imo Celtic are blameless when chasing a player faced with the above choice.

Our trump card is the offer of sustained European football and that is why European football must be our benchmark.

    HH.

  2. Guys Like Larsson and McStay are outliers, as in they are head and shoulders above there peers

    And can never be replaced

They are one in a generation of supporters idols

In 10 or 15 years will our children look on Scott Brown and Calmac as the same

Or will they forever hide in the shadows

Behind people like Tommy Burns, Billy McNeil and Kenny Dalgliesh

    McStay, Larsson, Petrov and McGrain

  3. KT did play for us and was kicked up and down the park

And injected up and down the training grond to keep him going

    And his dentist lol

Sure McGinn and others look at that and thank their ankles for a move away from us

McGinn moved to Villa in August 2018

Tierney moved to Arsenal in Aug 2019

  5. Good festive morning to all on CQN.

Paul67 show a sence of decency and get Petec, SS and Tom Mc back on here I have met 2 of the 3 guys and they are Celtic through and through and I am assured Tom is the same and hope to meet him at a gathering soon.

You should turn your banning radar to your Mod’s.

Now today if anyone wants to join a few Garngad bhoys at the Howgait at Townhead, for the game and a few Libatiins they are more than welcome.

  6. Clearly, VAR can’t sort out the mistakes made when assessing and assigning penalties in the box.

    So, here’s the solution…

Any shirt pull spotted in the penalty box either results in an immediate penalty to the attackers plus instant booking to the offending defender; conversely, if the pull is by attacker, it’s an instant foul to the defending team and a booking against the striker/attacking player. No interpretation – straight ruling and award.

Net result…more penalties awarded, higher scoring games, and a lot less ambiguity and sleekitry tolerated.

    Looking fwd to today’s match!

  7. lets all do the huddle on

but at what point is the first offence deemed to have happened with all the grappling that forwards and defenders get up to before the cross is made?

in yesterdays sham there was a lot going on before the moment that var decided to show the still picture for that the ref used to give the penalty

hence sleekitry will still be rife to decide on that moment

  8. LETSALLDO – I know it’s imperfect but…

Something needs to short-circuit this interpretation and nuance BS of penalty award and VAR intrusion biz.

Needs to only be down to the ref’s call; – from whatever point or time he sees the offence. Like it, or lump it.

Getting rid of VAR is Part 1; Part Deux is only allowing refs to officiate if they have never had any affiliation with any of the two teams in the tie – like they do in properly governed leagues.

  9. Celtic: Hart, A Johnston, Phillips, Scales, Taylor, O’Riley, Tomoki, McGregor, M Johnston, Oh, Palma.
