Many reasons not to play Carter-Vickers on Sunday

215

Cameron Carter-Vickers was rested for the second half against Hibs due to a tight hamstring.  Were we not two goals ahead, he might well have played on, but there was no point taking chances.  The same argument holds for Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Nat Phillips is more than capable of stepping into the defensive leadership role.  He is a competent and experienced professional who has played at levels none of the Kilmarnock side will ever reach.  Brendan Rodgers comments last week about Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki were more nuanced that the reported headlines.  The manager made the point that neither player have had an opening with Cameron and Liam Scales having established a solid pairing.  We have five fit central defenders; our top man has a tightness which could turn into an injury, but four are in pristine condition.

Whatever the perceived levels of Gustaf and Maik, they are is not a reason to leave them in the stands.  Celtic are a club which needs to take promising players from other environments and develops them into great talents.  This is the path we must follow, we cannot turn into a club which wastes players.

No risks with Cameron on Sunday, please.  There is lots for him to do before the bells toll.

Totally agree with you. They are the best and the worst of us. They do so much good, with the atmosphere and the fundraising, but Christ they utterly wreck that with the negative behavior, the choice of chants and cringeworthy add ons.

They need to shape up or ship out!

  2. I fear the lack of the rousing SAM Song and the BBB, to name two are having an adverse effect on the side.

If the GB are going to be kept out, perhaps a section of the support would take it upon themselves to learn a few of these songs and begin belting them out.

They can be easily found on YouTube. Glasgow stalwarts Athenrye and The Blarney Pilgrims do a great service to several of these numbers and the lyrics can be found on numerous websites.

Maybe even write the lyrics on a big Ukraine flag and drape it over the side of the stand in writing large enough that everyone can read it. Lots of ways around this if we all put our thinking caps on.

  3. Massive thanks to Wim the TIm Leeds CSC – just in from an evening with J Craig, Mrs Craig and M McClone. Only four left.

  4. Good morning all from a 7 degrees, dry at the moment but wet underfoot Garngad.

Surprise, surprise the old ticket allocation argument for the bigot dome and Paradise is surfacing again. We must be playing thems soon at Paradise and the SMSM/SFA/SPF Hell want some Orcs in to try and give their team a boost.

I hope our board tell them to BOOST.

I’d welcome the Green Brigade back to Celtic Park.

The “atmosphere” angle is a no brainer.

Don’t see why it can’t happen quickly.

Just needs 267 people to agree to follow the rules most of the rest of us follow.

    Agree with that.

Just requires the half dozen or so “adults” pulling the strings to be willing to stop trying to manipulate the others. I’m afraid that is less likely.

Your mention of Big Jock and goalkeepers reminded me of an interview by Pádraig Harrington when asked about other sports he played.

” I used to play football and was a goalkeeper but gave it up. If the team got beat the goalie got all the blame. If you won, the forwards got all the praise and goalkeeper got nothing”

Handball goldy injured and its a goal right away, huge disadvantage when you can’t use your hands as a defender.

Another a capitulation from the visitors on the cards.

  14. Are the huns averaging a pen a game?

Or only when they are struggling?

    So a pen a game?

“It’s a spot-kick for the hosts for a shirt pull by Aaron Donnelly on Abdallah Sima.”

The ole shirt pull, you touch their shirt 100% penalty. Solution don’t touch them !

  16. If you don’t touch them it will be something else.

We are witnesses to grand scale match fixing.

While we are on top the sfa will do this until questions are asked.

  17. any touch on the goalie is a free kick , that’s why JH has to be more assured and come for everything in his box.

Red card for the hun when 3-1 up. Penalty awarded to Dundee when game is lost. No wonder I drink.

  20. Three jersey tugs, three penalties. We had three at R County and got none.If the fix is really in,the mob go 4-1 up,game safe, penalty to Dundee.Takes the shocking look off the stats.

    You would,wouldn’t you?.
