McCoist at odds with hero Whyte

979

We all know Craig Whyte doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the wonderful job he is doing for Scottish football but his cause was not helped by rookie manager, Ally McCoist, who when asked today if Nikica Jelavic asked to leave Rangers said, “No he didn’t, not at all. I have a wonderful relationship with Nikica. He never said that.”

The Rangers manager then passed the buck onto the unfairly beleaguered club owner, telling STV, “We received a bid from Everton which Craig [Whyte] found acceptable. Therefore business was done.”

McCoist refused to take a manager’s responsibility for deciding who leaves the football club.  Craig Whyte made it clear to all concerned yesterday that Nikica Jelavic wanted to leave Rangers and there was no point keeping a player who didn’t want to be there.  Whyte needs the backing of everyone with the best interests of Scottish football at heart, including his manager.  The intrusive scrutiny he has been placed under in recent months will not help him achieve his objectives.

Whyte hasn’t put a foot wrong so far, we should all mind our own business and let him get on with his job. Eye on the prize, Craig.

  5. Good morning to everyone from MK where the forecast is for the winter to arrive this evening in the form of about 4 inches of snow.

The more I read/hear about the Rangers administration/insolvency the more I get the distinct feeling that Rangers have already been in discussions with the governing authorities and ‘brother’ clubs about such an action and brokered a deal. It would explain why the media are confident in the line they’re peddling that it’s a fait accompli and Rangers, in whatever form, will automatically be restored to the SPL in the event of liquidation.

It would be interesting to find out what, if any, assurances Whyte give Ticketus about Rangers continued presence in the SPL because I’m sure Ticketus would have had some reservations about lending money to a club that was about to go bust and be demoted to the Scottish 3rd division.

All this is purely speculative and of much more importance is our fixtures over the next week where 3 wins would surely catapult us into a position that we need not concern ourselves about Rangers woes other than to sit back and enjoy the comedy.

  7. Back in my 20s I worked for a few years on a daily newspaper in Venezuela with journalists and editors from the U.S., Canada, the UK and, of course, Venezuela. All talented people, all honest people when it came to writing a story, filing it, sub-editing it and writing headlines. None of them would recognise the process that the Sun Newsroom goes through in publishing a story.

The complete disregard of the truth would have been a sackable offence rather than your ticket to front and back-page glory.

Although playing fast and loose with the truth is nothing new from The Sun, this week shows it is going to peddle a strong anti-Celtic agenda as the Rangers crisis deepens. Celtic’s board and media department need to take appropriate action to protect Neil Lennon. Time call their editor into the boardroom and if that doesn’t work, ban the paper from all games and press conferences.

Banning a rag isn’t going to make the leopards spots change.

They’ll just make headlines out of the banning and print more crap.

I’d rather the club made extensive and detailed statements on its websites correcting false stories or , if called for go the press complaints commission or the MON route in extreme.

I don’t care what the sun prints because I never read it and even if I’m forced to read it’s stories by proxy through pasting and copying on here I start from the premise that it’s likely to be rubbish anyway.

Sites like these are changing the game. More and more fans , I believe realise that.

Educate more and more of the fans as to what is really going on by highlighting the truth as opposed to what the red tops print will marginalise them even more. Extinction will follow , eventually.

We don’t have to look to far to see the damage that can be done when a fan base swallows what it’s being told by a manipulated press.

For what it’s worth its my certain belief that the events of 1994 and the resolution of those problems by engaging the Celtic fans in an open(ish) disclosure of what was going on and the engagement of them in contributing to what was effectively a complete relaunch of the club changed this club , for the better and forever. The fans , to,some degree, forced that change.

Perhaps the more cerebral rangers fans, (and some do exist !) wish that they’d challenged the succulence type nonsense in the press rather than swallow it.

Not that I particularly care , ye ken…

How can the club comment outwith the actual liquidation event occurring?

By officially commenting on the future possibility of Rangers experiencing a liquidation event surely they would be opening themselves up to legal challenge from Rangers (I know, I know), any currant Rangers shareholder, the SPL, the SFA and/or any other body individual who has a financial stake hold in Scottish football.

Listened to Clyde there and Hugh falling over himself to make callers look stupid with his two central points about liquidated hun-

    1. They reapply to be part of the sfl.

2.They then apply to the spl asking to be voted back in by other clubs.

Hugh says there is no jiggery poker involved in that inferring that Celtic fans are paranoid.

My point to this is WHY are the huns going to be allowed to reapply to the spl when the rules for liquidation are clear, demotion.

One of the main gripes also is the media willingness to bypass integrity by trumpeting their safe passage back in.

  26. I hear Craig Whyte has requested a special dispensation to help rescue his club from it’s impending extinction, the Holy Father is believed to be considering his request today…

In my speculative piece I never included Celtic as a ‘brother’ club and it would be premature for the board to act before Rangers made any announcement on their solvency. Now is the time for patience, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to voice our opposition.

Paul67’s irony laden posts indicate that he and I’d guess Celtic know where the bodies are buried and they’ll all be exhumed when the time is right.

  28. I keep hearing that in the event of liquidation that Ibrox is not worth much.

Can’t build a supermarket because of ASDA, Silverburn etc in the locale.

Too expensive for social housing due to cost of keeping the A-Listed facade.

Not a good site for high end housing because it is located in a soo side slum area.

So I suggest Glasgow City Council purchase Ibrox from Rangers. Keep the A-listed facade as an entrance to Glasgow’s newest Mecropolis then as the Huns pass away they can be buried at an extra cost over and above normal funeral costs of £1690.00 to rest (I know but Glasgow City Council would be trying to sell this idea to them) in peace for eternit were their heroes used to play and their support used to sing (sometimes).

Hello and good morning to all on CQN.

Looking forward to a great ( hard fought ) victory today.

Need to share this with y’all : was at the the concert hall last night to see the average white band and friends, as part of the celtic connections. AWB were fantastic, played a great back catalogue of their material and were joined on stage by hue & cry and michael marra at seperate times. The highlight ( and there were many ) was michael marra performing his song “flight of the heron” about the “black arrow”, Gil Heron who played for Celtic in the early 50’s. The place sat silent listening to the beautifully crafted lyrics…..what a treat. I have tried this morning to find the lyrics and post them, but between watching the morning line and quite a serious hangover, not been able. If any of you out there can find them, can you please post them. Michael Marra, from Dundee has also written a song about Hamish Mcalpine and penned “mother glasgow” which was covered by the afore mentioned hue & cry, for the musicy people out there, if you havent already experienced him…. then you should.

  31. BankieBhoy – As long as the Record continues to follow its usual loose interpretation of the truth as well, a rabid anti-Celtic agenda is not going to significantly increase the Sun’s circulation. However a clear statement of Celtic to ban the paper and an appeal for fans to boycott should dent its sales.

The editor has to answer to the News International board. Those people will have no interest in Celtic or Rangers, just a simple question – is circulation going up or going down? If it’s going down, why? If it’s because of an editorial stance over a non-strategic topic such as football, change it.

My guess is that the strong anti-Celtic position is a short-term strategy to capitalise on the perception that the Record has taken an anti-Craig Whyte position. With CW announcing that the Record is off his breakfast reading list, the Rangers’ PR people will be working overtime with the Sun to make it the paper of choice for their fans. There will be promises of exclusives in return for a pro-Rangers policy. This strategy has always worked in the past for Murray but it is a dangerous position now when the said club is in dire straits.

Would a ban make a difference to the papers coverage of Celtic? Probably not in the short term. Longer term, it would soften in an attempt to woo back readers. Just think of them having to sit on the sidelines while the Record scoops up every exclusive story re. Celtic, especially when Celtic will be the only show in town.

Would Celtic be damaged by such a move? I don’t think so. The other News International papers have zero interest in Scottish football so there would be no adverse effects in England. The English Sun pays more attention to 10-pin bowling than the SPL.

The editor is taking a gamble, Celtic should call his bluff.
