McCoist at odds with hero Whyte

979

We all know Craig Whyte doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the wonderful job he is doing for Scottish football but his cause was not helped by rookie manager, Ally McCoist, who when asked today if Nikica Jelavic asked to leave Rangers said, “No he didn’t, not at all. I have a wonderful relationship with Nikica. He never said that.”

The Rangers manager then passed the buck onto the unfairly beleaguered club owner, telling STV, “We received a bid from Everton which Craig [Whyte] found acceptable. Therefore business was done.”

McCoist refused to take a manager’s responsibility for deciding who leaves the football club.  Craig Whyte made it clear to all concerned yesterday that Nikica Jelavic wanted to leave Rangers and there was no point keeping a player who didn’t want to be there.  Whyte needs the backing of everyone with the best interests of Scottish football at heart, including his manager.  The intrusive scrutiny he has been placed under in recent months will not help him achieve his objectives.

Whyte hasn’t put a foot wrong so far, we should all mind our own business and let him get on with his job. Eye on the prize, Craig.

  1. Scotland’s leading politicians have united to get a demonstration by the SDL in Glasgow banned on the grounds of public safety and ‘moral decency’.

I can’t wait to see the same output of moral indignation when the orange filth apply for their marches in the coming months.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the very same outraged politicians will go into ostrich mode.

I hear Craig Whyte has requested a special dispensation to help rescue his club from it’s impending extinction, the Holy Father is believed to be considering his request today…

Australia rugby league aboriginals v whites to kick off the Nrl season

    Australia 2012 is really 1812

    They don’t have a clue

I really can’t believe you posted that. Are you an inverted bigot/racist or what.?

Johnathan Dean Thurston is playing for the INDIGENOUS team, do you think for one moment that if there was anything unethical about this game that he would pull on a jersey?

Do you think that Darren Lockyer would have anything to do with its endorsement?

There are men in the ‘white’ team (as you called them) who are actually called NRL All Stars, who are much, much darker in skin pigmentation than the majority of those playing in the ‘Aboriginal’ team, (as you called them).

Most of the Indigenous team earn a good living playing in the NRL alongside those who are opposing them tonight. There is a point to this game but it may have eluded you.

Do you have any idea where the money raised from this game is spent?

Friday on Celtic TV: The manager makes his point

By: Gregor Kyle on 03 Feb, 2012 15:41

IN a week book-ended by two crucial cup ties and including the conclusion of the transfer window, Neil Lennon has had plenty to keep him occupied.

It is an exciting time for the players and manager, who now have a League Cup final to look forward to. But having put together an exceptional run of domestic wins in what is a dramatic and engaging campaign, the positives have not been reflected in some newspaper comments.

At today’s media conference the manager responded to one non-story that appeared on the front of a national newspaper and then, in his weekly exclusive interview on the Huddle Online, he gave his views on the comments of one former Celt.

A midweek interview with one ex-midfielder said that the players should be ‘sacked’ if they do not deliver the title and speaking on tonight’s show on Celtic TV, the manager responded: “That’s a really good quote isn’t it? It’s something that punters in the pub would say.

“For someone who is an ex-professional, who now broadcasts for a company that follows the game up here and tries to enhance the game up here, he is being very disrespectful to the rest of the SPL clubs. It’s silly, it’s uncalled for and none of my players will be getting sacked.”

Rather than viewing the comments as a slight on his team, the manager instead sees it as an insult to Scottish football as a whole. More importantly, he also believes they are damaging the game and bear no resemblance to the true picture.

“It’s ridiculous,” he continued. “There are a lot of people outside the game looking in, who don’t put anything into it and just want to talk it down. It makes Scotland a hard sell.

“If you look at the players who have left here in recent years, Alan Hutton for £9million, Craig Gordon £9million, Aiden McGeady £11million and Nikica Jelavic for six or seven, you wouldn’t get those prices in the Championship, so the SPL can’t be that bad.

“On top of that, we have some young, quality players up here like James Forrest, Paul McGowan and Johnny Russell. That’s three off the top of my head, so it’s not all the doom and gloom that people predict.

“Some are living in England and watching the games on TV or reading the papers, they have no real input, no insight behind the scenes and managers work very hard to enhance the game here, unlike some other people.

“It’s having a negative impact on Scottish football as a whole. These people have a platform and they influence people’s opinions, whether that’s inside the game or outside it. A lot of the time, I think their responses are uneducated, they lack the information required – and it makes them look silly at times, which I think it has this week.”

I’d happily go 4-5-1 today, then make changes at half time when we are 4-0 up.

    Makes sense to me.

I would like to have seen Pawel at least on the bench.

He’s been signed to bring a more physical type of striker to the club. This is the perfect game for him and the weather, the sh*t playing surface and the hammer throwers should suit him fine.

“ah um” says the not so bright one who has his head buried in the sand

“its not that tax case is it? ach thatll blow over” says meself…now at this point the ugly one is ready to commit, the other one well he should be committed, he says

“Aye theyll settle soon, sno as bad as its made oot, so your gonny dae it then ur ye?”

“yeah more than likely” says me

“heard craig whyte was gonny add some incentives if the books are taken up early this year” says me…the mrs is now stating to get a wee bit wary now

“eh never heard that, any idea whit?” says the ugly one

“well rumour is that if you sign for a two year deal on direct debit, you also get a free pass for the super casino and leisure centre thrown in” says meself as the wife shakes her head in total disbelief

Now youd think the penny would have dropped eh?

Well not entirely, the ugly one goes to reply and then thinks better of it, can see the wheels going round…casino? what feckin casino???

unfortunately for him his pal is as bright as a far off murray moonbeam

“ah might go for that as a wee surprise” he says “linda likes a night at the casino”

“aye you do that” says me…”shell be well chuffed”

Ugly bear is now not happy, the dim one is totally confused as to why but cant fathom it all out,

Mrs Che decides enough is enough, while pointing over to me she says to him….”before you disappoint Linda, you might find hes taking the P***”

    “ur ye?” he says

now by this time ive gone childishly hysterical…”aye sorry mate it was a bit of a wind up………… there’s no free pass for the casino, just the leisure centre”

Mrs Che shakes the head as we depart the terminal, “you just cant leave it can you, you just cant leave it!!

“Just cant get enough darling” says I…”Just cant get enough”

Agreed – today isn’t a day for “ball players”, and we need to be prepared to “mix it up” against this gang of rugby players. As much as I like Ki’s intricate play etc, I am glad he’s not fit to play today – this will ensure we get guys in the middle who are fit for a fight, i.e. Wanyama & Ledley (though Ledley is neat & tidy too, and possible he’ll start at LB).

    Tight game – I’m going for 4-1… :-)

    Thanks for the reply.

I’m not sure I know what the answer is, and as much as I would like to ban specific titles and particular hacks I don’t think it would be effective in either the short or long term.

The scottish football-reporting context is singularly dominated by and dependent on the patronage of ragers supporting paying readers/ listeners.

It’s good commercial sense from a circulation perspective to give us the hard time. Although they often go above and beyond this strategy particularly with regards to our Irish managers, in my opinion. Shamefully so.

Bigotry is at the core but ‘business’ is the clincher in deciding the agenda I think.

Celtic could have the best PR team in the world and we’d still get it tight from the media. It’s not about the press releases, it’s not about the stories.

For what it’s worth I think TLWIO imakes a good point that we should continue to take control of the agenda and build a dialogue directly with the support and the wider community. The media can no longer monopolise the channels, and we should concentrate on getting our message out there. CQN and other forums are important in this.

The Celtic story is packed with heart-warming, enriching positives, drama, romance and above all…….great fitba’.

Why ever would the scottish media choose not to reflect this?

I no longer read or click on the papers we have mentioned and I enjoy personally depriving them of that business but I’d stop short of banning them indefinately. It just doesn’t seem to be in our DNA, somehow. Too hunnish a tactic perhaps?

We are different and we offer the prospect of salvation, even to the most jaundiced of hacks…..

Thanks again for the response, it’s a perrenially important issue that we have to confront.

    Cheers and HH.

  18. Paul Lambert on Grant Holt……

“If he had, it might have been different. A move to Rangers might have been attractive to a lot of players, but they are not as strong as they used to be.

“Holt has waited a long time to get to the Premier League and it’s great for him to be playing here, considering where he has come from.

“So while it was a flattering offer for him, I never expected him to want to leave.

“Mind you, if it had been Celtic, I would have driven him up there myself!”

Holt, 30, has already scored nine goals and Lambert is confident there’s plenty more to come.

‘In my speculative piece I never included Celtic as a ‘brother’ club and it would be premature for the board to act before Rangers made any announcement on their solvency. Now is the time for patience, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to voice our opposition.’

    I disagree.

I think you’ll be surprised at how fast things move once the huns are liquidated.

It could be all over and done with and the newco huns back in the SPL while we’re still celebrating.

In the meantime the campaign is gathering momentum. It’s becomeing ‘the common sense solution’ to the majority of football fans who still get their information from the old media.

As I said a two line statement from the Celtic board is all it would take to stop it in its tacks.

  23. Blisteringly good comments by Neil on both Rangers and Burley: succinct, forceful, measured, pointed, and devastating.

On Rangers he has fired the first shot in what may well be a bloody war, with Celtic seeking to uphold the sanity of the game as a competition in Scotland. I think he also gave a response which the Laptop Loyal did not expect…

On Burley he is completely correct. Burley is obviously trying to develop a defined and “controversial” broadcasting voice. Instead he comes across as a crazed, unhinged loon – the type of guy you avoid in the pub because he is always angry at how rubbish the world is.

If Burley finds Scottish football so unpalatable, perhaps he should find another job and let the rest of us get on with it?
