McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

South Africa B have lost their 3 South African born wickets already in 2nd innings….Peterson playing like he was trying to lose….the other guys in the 1 day team would have been better than the test lot (Keissweter Durnbach etc)…The whole qualification thing is a joke with Morgan and others…..As with other empire sports which England gave to the world they should beat them all 9 times out of 10 without pinching the other countries talent….

”The only way they can swing this deal is if they demonstrate that they have punished the new regime for the sins of the old one.”

If oldco was still going what punishment would they be due? They forfeit the titles they got illegally, that’s a given. But that’s not a punishment, just like if you rob a bank, you have to give back the money you stole. Giving back the money isn’t the punishment, the punishment is going to prison. So what punishment would oldco have been due for year after year of cheating and lying? A fine? No chance. It would have to be suspension or exclusion.

There’s no way the newco will be suspended or excluded.

So newco isn’t being treated the same way oldco would have been treated.

Re earlier post….I understand and respect what you mean re ‘punching our weight’ ……my point was that like the dutch, belgians and portuguese the cypriots can sign from any country with minimal work permit restrictions….we cannot trawl the talent pools to the same effect….we also have the ‘burden’ of a ‘following’ which is ‘influenced’ or maybe …heaven forbid manipulated, by an establishment orientated media into negative hysteria about players and club policy at the drop of a hat…..’evidenced by anti GS, Fergus McCann or Brian Quinn, or Samaras or or or or campaigns.

Our crowd and ‘support’ should help us punch above our weight but too often it is manipulated into a malcontent state which works against the aims at CP….I always fear this in games like the upcoming Helsinki game when we see such negativity as we have from folks on here today.

It is well near impossible IMO to attract players to a league like ours until the real big teams with financial clout and appeal have had their pick sadly. This and the restrictions we have in terms of imigration rules limit our ability to either sign big players or invest in potential….

  11. and another thing, all the big teams in world football have a first 11 players who will play so long as they are fit, if and when injury or suspensions occur their overall team standard drops manu without rooney, barca without messi etc… these teams will often look towards their academies for players to move up and sometimes those players with thrive.

please lets learn from these clubs, reduce our squad further, add 2 or even 3 quality first team players and use the academy bhoys when needed you know it makes sense.

“Sky rescinding a contract because they don’t get the fixtures they won’t isn’t influencing the outcome of a game. ”

It is however influencing the outcome of a league (which is made up of individual games)

How would you argue it in court?

SPL Advocate: Mr. Sky, why did you withdraw from SPL coverage?

Sky: Because we did not get 4 games between Celtic and Rangers

SPLA: Were you guaranteed 4 SPL games?

Sky: We wrote it into the contract.

SPLA: Please your honour, we need to arrest all the Sky and SPL execs who drafted this deal as they have obviously attempted to ensure that Rangers and Celtic have to be in the top 6

Sky: No we did not stipulate that; we just stated that we would drop the deal if that did not happen, and the SPL agreed to that.

Judge: So both you and the SPL execs drew up a contract that depended on 4 games occurring, which could not be guaranteed to occur unless you ignored sporting uncertainty. I declare the contract null and void because neither party is obviously fit to be trusted to draft a legal document with full adult capacity and intelligence.

Send that to Lord Glennie and see if he can worm a way out of it!

Surely this suggests the decision hasalready been made known within legal circles?

The reason for not making the decision public would be enlightening too know doubt.

Still, on the brighter side, this time when the huns are publicly humiliated again it will get National coverage like nothing before.

Wonder if Fat Sally will be out there facing the National media threatening the whole of Britain with one of his “over my dead body” rants? Doubt it.

if you can make a case that the player you want will enhance your team and scottish football in general, is there not a rule that he will be given a work permit? i am sure we used this with sh*te (remember him) and most recently victor. lets he honest it would not be that hard to prove a player was better than most in scotland if he was very good.

the problem is we are looking to buy promosing young players and dont seem to be willing to spend more than about 1 million to get them in. porto are very good at getting young players in and make healthy profits, but they will spend significantly more money than celtic, knowing they will get a higher return.

The last time I saw Ajax in a pre season friendly was on 30th July 2007. A week further into pre season that they are now.

They lost 2-1 to a very youthful Falkirk side (my home town and as I was visiting).

It was not a fluke and although the young Falkirk side had to withstand some pressure it was nevertheless a merited win.

The Ajax team that day was:

Gentenaar, Heitinga, Vermaelen, Emanuelson, Kennedy, Huntelaar (Donald 66), Sneijder (Van Der Wiel 82) Rommedahl (Anita 86), Gabri (Delorge 58), Ogararu, Colin.

You might recognise some of the names. Possibly more of the names than yesterday!

The Ajax coach at the time was complimentary to Falkirk,, despite what Ajax Quick News was no doubt saying at the time. He said “I’d already heard about Falkirk having a young team who like to play football so I wasn’t surprised. They deserved to win. At least Falkirk tried to play football more. XXXXXXX were very defensive against us and waited for the counter attack.”

XXXXXXX = a team Ajax had played a few days previously. Ajax Quick News must have been awash with tantrums and beelin’, when you consider XXXXXXX are nearly DEFUNCT.

Falkirk were the only team Ajax lost to that pre season but finished a disappointing 3rd in the league and did not qualify for the Champions league.

    Funny old game.

PS I thought we were dreadful yesterday but am not as concerned as I will be if we repeat that against Helsinki.

This must be a new form of Scottish justice, whereby the guilty party negotiates with officialdom over what punishment, if any, they will accept. After all – ‘THEY ARE THE PEOPLE!, – I had almost forgotten. How silly of me.

I agree…..perhaps the new world might allow us to ‘blood’ a few more of the young talents we have…..There maybe less pressure in the league for a few years. However there will also be a lower level of competition which might not help…..

  25. maybe if sky pulled out we could see some heads roll given that once again our footballing authorities have failed to make sure our football is valued. u need to wonder, if sky were giving overtunes of pulling out spl should have entered into negotiations with other parties rather than pander to them.
