McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

I don’t switch off any competitive performance. Even the Ross County’s and the Black Sundays. I can be seen wandering the existential space between my telly and the kitchen patio doors, relentlessly pondering the notion that there are innumerable worlds and on one such world there is a beaming, happy Ulysses watching Motherwell getting tonked.

Less so when the opposite is in action.

Aye the draw (The desire, the want) of the CL is anathema to me. Often thought WGS would have done well in the UEFA cup rather than the obvious terminus in the CL – Yes I know we held AC out fur hunners of minutes.

You know and I know that the coffers have been getting looked at in respect to what has been panning out in Scottish Football – so when I recvd a text telling me Mr Lawell was expecting Exit traffic before new entrants, I knew all I needed to about our chances in the qualifiers. Because we ain’t good enough for most of Europe.

    Like I said – it’s a shame. But it’s true.

Fed up explaining this in simplistic terms to Huns and English football fans.

Player negotiates with Celtic and Rangers. Celtic offer £30k pw with 40% tax deducted leaves £18k.

Rangers offer £30k, £20k in EBT, £10k taxable totals £24k.

Who does the player sign for????

I also think the Media knew about the impact of EBT years ago. Celtic must have known.

Controversial football agent Paul Stretford is “assisting” Rangers newco, the Ibrox club have confirmed.

Gers chief executive Charles Green is using the services of the agent, who was banned in 2008 for 18 months and fined £300,000 for a number of misconduct charges relating to how he acquired the right to represent Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney six years earlier. A spokesman for Rangers said: “Paul Stretford is assisting the club.” Stretford’s link with the Ibrox club is revealed as Ally McCoist prepares to bolster his squad for life in the Third Division next season. On acceptance of Scottish Football Association membership, still to be ratified, the Light Blues’ boss will have until September 1 to sign players before a 12-month transfer embargo begins. Rangers fans may wonder about Stretford’s remit given the club’s new

league status and the apparent lack of cash available at Ibrox to bring players in, but confirmation of the Englishman’s involvement comes while Green continues to challenge the decisions of the players who walked away from the club this summer.

I don’t need anyone to argue with me, because I am going to contradict myself and disagree with myself in this one single post.

First point – all pre season games are meaningless in the long term. Only one result matters before August 1st. The Helsinki one.

Second point – by and large pre season games don’t matter because you are trying to bed three, four or perhaps even five new players into a team, so the result doesn’t matter. Celtic certainly don’t have that to account for it so far.

  28. IMO , we have witnessed that lot hamstringing themselves for the next 5 seasons, minimum.

We must not allow them any slack, firstly let us get the tainted titles stripped. then we build such a compelling club structure that we will always be 5 seasons ahead.

In essence , become a true European club that would grace any future league set ups. They are coming,we just do not know when.

  30. Ghuys,

We should relax about these pre-season games. Football has changed over the last 20 years and Scottish football as a whole has been slow to adapt to the higher skill levels, fitness and general athletiscm. Celtic are the best example in Scotland of a team actually trying to play football in a low standard league with poor pitches and refs which allow hacking at will.

We need to be at the top of our game, with a bunch of games under our belt in order to compete against the likes of Ajax, any thing less then our general lack of skill ( comfortable with either foot) from number 1 to 11, will / can be exposed.

Our future is obviously with kids going through the academy , we need ghuys comfortable on the ball.

Short term , with a shaky defence lying deep then the whole balance of the team is knackered, this is the short term problem we need to address, in order to play a tighter game against higher standard opposition.

Ps: if not paying your tax is just short of match fixing then what is illegal player registration for 12 years?

  31. Bankiebhoy

  32. canamalar

the tickets for the friendly against Inter are priced at £20. You can argue they are overpriced (I have not bought one yet) but they’d cost double that if it was a competitive Euro tie, and they’d sell out.

    awe naw

I cannot think of any proffessional player who would think that being humped by Inter and Real (if that happens) will make them doubt their ability to beat Helsinki. Now, losing players to injury in those matches, that will have an effect.

We came back from pre-season humpings before, including during MON and WGS’s time. Memory plays tricks on some because we only seem to remember our wins in pre-season. A poster reminded us earlier of 6:2 and 4: 0 pre-season defeats for the MON team.

Have you discerned any positive or negative correlation between pre-season results and League & European success in this modern era, because it has escaped me?

  36. I take pre-season friendlies as seriously as the players do and don’t go.

The main reason for them should be to get fitness, tactics and integrate new players ( centre half and striker please) to the club.

I’ll give the players from last night the benefit of the doubt, but the ball control was terrible from a number of players. A real lack of composure when pressed was a worry.

I’ve been on holiday and was told that the Huns have played a few friendlies.

Do they have a licence to play games from the SFA.

Also heard that as soon as the Huns are accepted into division 3 Lee Wallace will be sold and McCoist will do some waddling away.
