McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

    semantics exactly!

The words you use have to convey the meaning they contain. If you are not equally upset by every defeat, regardless of its importance then you do discriminate and you do accept that a fairly meaningless pre-season friendly is not as important as other defeats. Same with me

Anyway, enjoy your flight, if indeed that is what a big iron bird is :-)

Because people are prepared to pay to watch them.

Your view is just that. YOUR view and it is a perfectly understandable one. Why, though, do you bring in others whose views you can only guess at? I, too, want Celtic (Ladies, Reserves, etc as well) to win every game. At the same time, I do get more pleasure from beating some teams than others and feel more pain losing to some teams than others. Not sure why anyone would want me to try to change that reality.

They may be able to withdraw from the contract if certain conditions considered essential can no longer be fulfilled

  9. I believe that Sky had a clause that if Celtic or Rangers left the SPL the contract was null and void!

I suspect Celtic expected this. Explains lack of spending.

If Sky do pull out it gives the SPL a chance to get another TV deal. If they can’t maybe Celtic could look at buying our own rights.

We then show the game on Celtic TV and pay the home club a fee. Our fans still see the away games worldwide and other SPL clubs get some money.

If we were to do this who would subscribe to Sky?

Maybe Sky would think again if most Scottish football fans didn’t need to subscribe to see their teams.

“I’d assume the Sky deal has conditions in it re CFC / Hun games ”

I’d assume they didn’t. That’s a common LL myth but it’s actually illegal, under UEFA and FIFA rules, for commercial interests to influence competitive outcomes. Sky (or ESPN) can insist that, should there be 4 gSPL games between Celtic and Rangers, they have negotiated the rights to broadcast them. They cannot stipulate, however, that there will be 4 such games regardless of competitive outcomes.

  14. Not a negative for me. Can’t stand Sky anyway. The clubs would be able to get an SPL channel underway and make much more cash.

Sky’s schedules do not show any SPL games yet, the brain cell on FF is getting overly excited and thinks this means they are pulling out of deal.

  17. So Sky pulls out of covering the SPhell. What is to stop channel 67 marketing our games, live pay for view for every home game? Game would be available regardless of where in the world you live. £20 a game should give us a healthy return.

Don’t Barca and R Madrid market their own games?

And i hope that if SKy does indeed pull out of covering SPL football everyone will cancel all their Sky subscriptions – all channels.

Pre-season is pre-season and all about match fitness achievment & experiments with players, shape, tactics.

Mind you on the feed I was watching the definition was not so good & we had buffering in abundance. My son & I saw a Celtic defender whom we couldn’t identify clearly, sclaff a clearance straight to an Ajax player.

Your going to have to convince me how such sophistry would get bye UEFA and FIFA rules. On what grounds could they rescind a contract that failed to provide 4 games that could not be guaranteed under competitive rules. They bought the likelihood of 4 such games not the guarantee.

Is it not more likely that this is just the FF thread going viral on the assumption that today’s Sky schedules did not include any SPL games? I think that is more likely to be oversight than opt out but, even if they do not cover SPL football, they will still have to pay the SPL their contracted fee.

Too many omens for it not to come in, so stuck £20 on it and it stormed in a 9/2.

I’ve tried to explain it better in my response to ernie. No broadcaster can insist that there be 4 league games between Celtic and Rangers in season 2012/13 (even if Rangers were still alive and in that league). If they did so, knowing that there was a top 6/bottom 6 split which meant this was an uncertain outcome, dependent on both teams finishing in the same half, the broadcaster would be guilty of attempting to influence a sporting outcome.

That, I am sure you understand is a no-no for FIFA and UEFA. Just as the BBC cannot sue FIFA if they negotiate for coverage of all England games at the Brazil World Cup 2014, and England fail to qualify.

I’m no spring chicken myself, I’m 58 ,and saw my first Celtic match 50 years ago this year. Feel a wee bit envious of the ould fellas like your uncle and my old dad who turned 88 (a special number!) yesterday! They were able to see players like Jimmy Delaney, Charlie Tully, Bobby Evans, Bobby Collins and countless other Celtic legends from the 40s and 50s, even ‘though it was a period when we didnt win many trophies(with a few notable excetions ‘though)!

The history of our great club is a wonderful thing, and it is something that every Celtic supporter of whatever age, creed or colour should savour and hold dear!

Sevco need ot have RFC’s “history” to maximise income with their project.

Despite what Greg Ioannidis and others say about the legaility of it all, the SFA & SPL support the transfer of the “history” to Sevco as long as strings are attached regarding titles won by cheating.

The only way they can swing this deal is if they demonstrate that they have punished the new regime for the sins of the old one.

If Sevco want the history then they have to take the sanctions, just so that Regan, Ogilvie, Doncaster, Ballantyne & others do not face a vote of no confidence.

The SFA don’t want due process, they just want it to look like they know what they’re doing for the good of Scottish football (stop laughing at the back).

They just want the whole debacle, which is beyond their ability to resolve, to go away, please.

As we all know, poor wee Ally doesn’t want due process either (lovely touch Paul), he just wants to cheat and get away with it.

If he doesn’t get his own way, he might not do not walking away.
