McGill comments allow SFA scope for inquiry

440

Amid the acres of confusion that surrounds Rangers and the Scottish game at the moment, one matter is now clear of the tax authorities, not subject to dispute by the various parties squabbling over Rangers, and free for the SFA to examine.  If they are interested.

Former Rangers director, Mike McGill, when speaking to the media alongside Sir David Murray on Tuesday, said, “The club used an old offshore EBT scheme in 1999 with three players.  That scheme is the subject of the small tax case.

“The Revenue provided some information to us in early 2011 and we conceded based on that information and provided for payment in the club accounts.”

The simple question for the SFA is, were details of payments made through the old offshore EBT scheme, which HMRC challenged last year and Rangers’ old board conceded, submitted to the SFA?

If they were, our faith in the governance of the game can be restored and we can all look forward to the Cup Final on Sunday.  If not, whose registrations were invalid and which games did they participate in?

As this question affects more than just SPL football, the SFA are the only body competent to investigate this matter. They are also competent to administer any appeal process. We hear the SPL inquiry will not mature until after the HMRC-Rangers First Tier Tribunal reports, which could be well after the SPL split, potentially creating chaos if Rangers were incorrectly placed in the top six.

This is a governance issue of enormous proportions. The SFA should use McGill’s comments as an opportunity to take a fresh look at this issue and quickly instigate an inquiry.

I’m off the see the lawyers this morning.  More later, I hope!

Should we refer to Alex Thomson as “Greek” after the celebrated Glasgow architect?

He may well be the architect of the downfall of the corrupt structure and governance of our game in Scotland.

If only there were more Thomson’s,McGarry’s and Gibbon’s with journalistic integrity within Scotland.

No more succulent lamb……openess and transparency must become the signature dish.

  2. Michael Kelly is on Planet “What!?”……just how crazy is all this getting.

The sooner Alex Thomson’s bandwagon rolls into town, the better.

Listened this morning to Clyde last night and by Hugh Keevins own admission he is ‘entrenched’ in his position re Ogilvie.

This is the problem right there that whilst during an investigation,a media outlet with massive influence can take an entrenched position.

Even the word itself,’entrenched’ tells us the mentality and position of a supposed neutral media.

Who are they fighting against whilst an investigation is underway?

Hugh Keevins is a nasty individual with too much influence,he certainly isn’t a journalist what he is,is a puppet for all that’s wrong in Scottish football like his employer.

    As for Darryl King.

Did Darryl King ever refer to ‘letters of intent’ before David Murray used the term yesterday?

I’ve been listening to the show for over a month now and when he’s had to mention the subject he’s never used that phrase.

King is trying to reverse the damage he’s done to the huns position regarding 2nd contracts by getting on message with David Murray and its insulting for the panel on Clyde to try and now tell us King hadn’t seen a 2nd contract.

Still, its our own fault they have this influence for listening in the first place,Clyde will never say what should be said they will always do their damnest to dilute and deflect from any sense of justice and lastly its shocking how the panelists on the show can’t see or admit to the merits of having an independent body investigate the 2 contract situation, the spl have a vested interest in that they will have to deal with the consequences of a guilty outcome.

Hugh Keevins is a horrible, horrible man whom I hope one day will regret his entrenched position.

How does Michael Kelly get a gig with the Scotsman?

I mean, we presume he is doing it for free, but what a completely sad attention seeker he is. We can now see why he was such an incompetent director at our club.

    The sporting thing to do?

Your Corinthian spirit was evident too when they were running rings round you, and placing our club at a disadvantage. Even then you were too busy focusing on what was best for you personally, and not on what was best for our club. Thank the Lord that the Rebels won and you were deposed.

Still, you’ll get smiles and nods from those at your club whom you seek to impress.

In fact it’s similar to the feeling I had that Thursday night 18 yrs ago when we knew Fergus was on a plane on his way to come and rescue us. Like going to bed on Christmas Eve knowing Father Christmas is out there and on his way.

  8. Seriously thinking about e-mailing Alex Thomson and asking him while he is in Glasgow, why stop at football in Scotland?

Why does he not investigate the missing crime figures for Sectarian attacks, ‘Orange Towns’ like Larkhall and Kilwinning, The Orange Walk, The Famine Song, Why there is an urgency to close RC Schools. Why RC Churches are regularly attacked and vandalised.

    We have an opportunity here.

Incredible piece from Kelly. I think he’s taken it too far! For the good of the game get them back to health? Well, on that theory for the good of the game will we wipe out their trophies over the last 15years, fair? Because if it’s for the good of the game…

I love this Alex Thompson guy. He is like a dog with a bone. He is not letting go. Go Alex, hunt them down!

Not only do McGills statement open the door for an SFA enquiry , surely the utterings of Minty Moonbeams on the subject of letter of intent and what actually constitutes a contract open Dignity up to an investigation from the day that Minty took office?

Once the FTT lay out the evidence then it should be an open goal for the SFA and systematic cheating will be exposed and withdrawal of license to play will swiftly follow for a period of 12 months.

This will allow Dignity to get through their legals re-group and the leagues will be restructured for season 2013-14 to allow Dignity to play in an SPL2.

Keep up the good work Paul , the MSM are a total joke , keep driving the agenda.

Take the money and run Michael always was and is likely to always remain a Tube of the first degree. One of Fergus’ regrets was that Michael was one of those he had to give even thin dimes to.

  14. I wouldn’t be suprised if Fergus was made aware of this by DD and PL. Maybe the bunnet about to re enter the fray and put final nail into Murray.

Wonder will it be a Linfield XI as I’m sure they won’t want first teamers injured during a meaningless friendly.

    This sprung to mind…

I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?

  19. Make sure to email Alex any examples of the SFA’s cosy relationship with the Scottish mainstream media.

I’m personally gonnae email him about the unnamed SFA source who, at the time of the ‘Dougie, Dougie incident’ told Scottish reporters that Steven Craven had quit due to abuse by Celtic fans.

Hopefully we’ll finally find out whom at the SFA fed reporters this lie, and why the hacks were so keen to perpetuate it. This is still a huge story because Alex could potentially expose the source of the poisonous anti-Celtic propaganda.

This has been raised again recently on the Guardian website, with Ewan Murray again being taken to task for his repeated failure to retracted the false accusation.

If anyone else can help with additional information (I personally only know of Ewan Murray who repeated the lie, but I seem to remember other churnalists doing the same), let me know.

  22. Perhaps an email to all clubs who exited Europe by rangers will get UEFA involved … If they weren’t eligible for domestic games then they sure as well weren’t eligible for European competition !!!!!!!

  23. I will be happy if the part about splitting gate receipts was true as I would have cancelled my season ticket and put the money into Celtic via pools and merchandising. I would not give those F***’s a penny of my money from watching Celtic.

REPRESENTATIVES of the so-called “Gang of 10” non-Old Firm clubs met up for the second time yesterday to further explore the possibilities for using the financial difficulties afflicting Rangers as the impetus to restructure the Scottish game.

Although the 10 clubs in question vary in size and SPL seniority, common ground is being sought on issues such as redistribution of revenues and bolstering the second tier of the league structure, with the first priority thought to be changing the 11-1 (90%) majority of member clubs which has proved a roadblock to so many previous attempts to revolutionise our game.

Although many of the clubs were divided as recently as last season upon whether a 10 or 14-team top division was the more appropriate, a consensus appears to be forming among the clubs that the next few months could provide a historic opportunity to affect change to the oft-derided voting structure which has hampered attempts at reform since the league’s birth in 1998.

An alteration to the revenue distribution system – by which the top two finishers in the SPL are guaranteed 32% of SPL prize money – is also up for discussion, although contrary to speculation, the more radical idea to split gate receipts is thought to be a non-starter.

In all likelihood, however, it would almost take the Ibrox club re-emerging as a newco and attempting to transfer their SPL share this summer to make it all happen. That would mean a 10-1 vote of the 11 remaining SPL clubs would represent 90.9% of members, and enough to carry any proposal.

Currently, Rangers retain full voting rights in the SPL even in administration, with even an abstention from Duff & Phelps sufficient to veto any attempt to redraw the league’s voting structure
