Midfield, slow burner seasons, Kano

207

When contemplating his first competitive game as Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou may want to paraphrase Vince Lombardi: half the squad are injured, half want away and the other half are inexperienced kids.

We have a few weaknesses, today, all we can do is own them and get ready for battle.  I expect Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Nir Bitton all to feature at some point, if not from the start.  If we are to have any chance, our new club captain, Callum McGregor, will be the man who leads from the front.  He brings experience and a level of fitness that belies his west of Scotland heritage.

The midfield core, with Callum, Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull looks like the most effective area in the team, they will need to dominate the ball and Ismaila in particular will be required to offer protection to the back line.

Martin O’Neill’s era started with indifferent preseason performances before the pieces began to come together of what was the third treble in our history.  I would accept a slow burner of a season this time around.

Special thoughts today for our old pal, Kano.  He would have run us through every scenario on what to expect from an Australian manager.  Some legacies live on, though, his sure did.

If you want some news that is not dominated by the self-interested or deluded, here is a wee piece on what your Foundation is doing right now with Islamic Relief UK to help homeless, asylum seekers, refugees, children and victims of domestic abuse in Glasgow.

Celtic is a wonderful thing to be part of, never take it for granted.  Enjoy the game tonight!

    Hi all,

for tonight – are the new parking restrictions in place now around Celtic Park?

    Cheers

  3. Ajer now completed his medical and passed it at Brentford, probably be finalised this afternoon or later this evening. por cierto

Rules for testing re travel are the some as they have been for ages if you check the government website it’s the same for all in UK. They decide which testing you use no haggis involved, you never read the rules.

  8. Testing for people travelling to Scotland

You will need to buy a COVID-19 test and take this test in the 3 days before you travel.

When boarding your plane, you will need to provide proof that you have taken the test, and that the result of the test was negative. You may also be asked to provide proof of a negative test when you arrive in Scotland.

The type of test you will need to buy

The test you buy must meet standards of ≥97% specificity and ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.

    Suitable tests include:

a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests

an antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device, though many lateral flow devices may not meet the standards needed – you must check the test you buy meets standards of ≥97% specificity and ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml, por cierto

PPB…many congrats to you both ;-))

Having watched zero pre-season friendlies…because nothing can be learned from them…I’m waiting with growing anticipation for kick-off tonight, not with expectations but with hope…why, because it’s early days into the rebuild and am not an entitled a*sehole ;-))

Aye, and whits wae the how England made it to the Euro’s final video pop-up? Down with this sort of thing….grrr

  12. I’d play Murray before Bitton. There’s a lot to be said for experience but, there’s more to be said for ability and skill.

Only problem would be is if Murray made the same 2 mistakes that Bitton might make, Murray’s would be highlighted more because he’s “young and inexperienced”

    Start Murray, start our future

“Midtjylland will be without 3 key midfielders tonight, Jens-Lys Cajuste who’s a handy defensive midfielder, Ajer Mabil a left winger, and Frank Onyeka has just joined Brentford for 9m”.

    Fair play to Brentford.

They felt so bad at tipping the balance of this tie by taking Ajer ….

… that they nipped out and bought one of theirs just to even it back up again.

    Pals.

  15. Just a heads up,

Closing date for the new open positions at Celtic recruitment is 22nd July,

If your interested you need to get those CVs in.

So Kris has just about gone?

If so, good luck young man.

It was great seeing you turn into the player you are today.

You came to a strange (deliberate word choice) country as a boy.

    Gave us good service.

    Won us some baubles.

    If we’ll receive £13.5m plus 20% ?

    That will do for me.

    He’ll go higher than Brentford.

St Stivs…don’t be daft…some posters on here think they’re too smart to be working for a wee club like Celtic…noo if it was Sevco vacancies on the other hand lol ;-))

Ange’s team tonight should be a good indicator of who he thinks are committed to the club…even if it’s just in the short-term

    £13.5 m plus £1.5 m add ons for a defender that can’t defend , great buisness.

Another victory for the balance sheet.

It will be doing a lap of honour at HT tonight.
