More fantasy about a miracle rescue

742

I was out of mobile phone range for most of yesterday and returned to read more histrionics.  On Tuesday I wrote: “Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later”, knowing full well (you all knew too) that news of Bill Miller’s departure would soon be countered by a fantastic (literally) piece of optimism from Rangers administrators.  They didn’t disappoint.

Today’s Guardian tells us that one bidder has “proved to Duff and Phelps they have a means of securing current owner Craig Whyte’s shares.”

Administrator, David Whitehouse, explains:  “One of the bids is for a stand-alone CVA and there are a number of hurdles which need to be overcome. Our view is that it is challenging, but it is not impossible. The purchaser who is talking to us about a stand-alone CVA has demonstrated to us that they have got a mechanism where Craig Whyte’s shares are not an issue.”

Ah, the illusive mechanism!  So Craig Whyte is irrelevant again.

We are three months into the process, Craig Whyte is no more irrelevant today than he was on 14 February, he remains the Only Show in Town.  Once he stops being the main event, HMRC take top billing.  After them, the players will have their 15 minutes of ‘action’.  Then you will hear more of the story.  If there is anything left after all this, the SPL and SFA will have their say.

Prior to appointing Bill Miller preferred bidder Duff and Phelps explained why a stand-along CVA was no longer possible.  No amount of creative thinking will change this fact.  The season ends on Sunday, Rangers last chance to pull a deal together passed on Monday, when Duff and Phelps were unable to present a proposal to the SPL.

Even IF a phoenix is assembled for next season, or the season after that, it will be a humbled shell of what was once Rangers.

Rangers Football Club is disintegrating and will do so at an increasing rate in the weeks ahead.  Again, cease and desist with the adolescent hysteria.  Chill. Go for a walk in the rain and spare a thought for those football fans with genuine worries.

Have’nt read the books, but the TV prog. is excellent, the only disappointing aspect is that there is quite a lot of adult content (soft porn) which adds nothing to the storyline. I have heard the books are a bit of a “magnus opus” I have the first volume in an audiobook format which I plan to listen to during my long drives between Scotland / England. I take it you would recommend the books ?

Is the SPL seriously going to hand over this money to Rangers? They have openly cheated to gain second place using taxpayers’ money and they have further disadvantaged Scottish teams by not paying debts.

Game of thrones is currently halfway through it’s 2nd season. I fully expect the fixtures to completed with plans for season 3 to be announced soon. (Unlike others I could mention)

It appears that Whyte is being pushed into a deal or may even be out of negotiations altogether. I suspect HMRC are now driving this.

  10. ernie lynch,

I can see how that set up would satisfy Ticketus, who just want their money back, and Whyte, who gets rental income for a loooooooong time.

However, what about HMRC in that scenario…methinks Hector might have something to say about Whitey taking possession of Ibrox/Murray Park/Albion and leasing it out to oldco (or newco).

Where is the repayment of PAYE/NIC/VAT? How do HMRC make more out of that proposal than a straightforward asset disposal in liquidation? Then factor in BTC, moral hazard (thou shalt not get away with it) and Whyte’s continued involvement (toxic for any deal here) and Hector still holds the trump cards, ’twas ever thus.

I’d sell him. Buy an experienced replacement to join Fojut, Rogne, Mulgrew, Lustig and Wanyama who can all play in central 2 or 3.

I think Lenny may go to 3 at the back next season. Anyone at LC who could be brought to Paradise as part of the deal. I suspect Wilson won’t want to leave a team set for the CL for the CC. He may prove hard to sell.

Fojut is injured, Rogne is injury prone, Lustig hasn’t quite settled yet and Wanyama is a midfielder for me.

Plenty work for Neil still to do in the transfer window.

so we get a statement from the board, at last.

I read very little said except they will stand up for integrity in the scottish game, “Our guiding principle is that we will do what is in the best interests of Celtic Football Club and our supporters, consistent with upholding the interests and reputation of Scottish football.” Gives a wee bit of comfort, I just hope I’m reading it right.

If you like the fantasy genre (nooo not the hun fantasy that they’ll survive – besides that more comedy than fantasy!) then the “A Song of Ice and Fire” books are a must.

There wont be a CVA and Whytey knows it. If there is a newco he gets sod all for his shares. I wonder he is doing this to block that route. A CVA would take the best part of 2 months to complete and even then it would probably fall through. By that time RFC(IA) would have ran out of money and would be liquidated. Whytey would then pick up his money from the sale of the assets.

    Afternoon all,

I just heard that ex-Celt Johnny Kelly has died. I’ve checked back a bit and can’t see any comment about it.

I was talking to him, only last Friday in The Bells in Springburn, and, I must say, he was looking quite frail.

Can anyone verify if this is true or not.

    RIP Johnny
