More fantasy about a miracle rescue

742

I was out of mobile phone range for most of yesterday and returned to read more histrionics.  On Tuesday I wrote: “Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later”, knowing full well (you all knew too) that news of Bill Miller’s departure would soon be countered by a fantastic (literally) piece of optimism from Rangers administrators.  They didn’t disappoint.

Today’s Guardian tells us that one bidder has “proved to Duff and Phelps they have a means of securing current owner Craig Whyte’s shares.”

Administrator, David Whitehouse, explains:  “One of the bids is for a stand-alone CVA and there are a number of hurdles which need to be overcome. Our view is that it is challenging, but it is not impossible. The purchaser who is talking to us about a stand-alone CVA has demonstrated to us that they have got a mechanism where Craig Whyte’s shares are not an issue.”

Ah, the illusive mechanism!  So Craig Whyte is irrelevant again.

We are three months into the process, Craig Whyte is no more irrelevant today than he was on 14 February, he remains the Only Show in Town.  Once he stops being the main event, HMRC take top billing.  After them, the players will have their 15 minutes of ‘action’.  Then you will hear more of the story.  If there is anything left after all this, the SPL and SFA will have their say.

Prior to appointing Bill Miller preferred bidder Duff and Phelps explained why a stand-along CVA was no longer possible.  No amount of creative thinking will change this fact.  The season ends on Sunday, Rangers last chance to pull a deal together passed on Monday, when Duff and Phelps were unable to present a proposal to the SPL.

Even IF a phoenix is assembled for next season, or the season after that, it will be a humbled shell of what was once Rangers.

Rangers Football Club is disintegrating and will do so at an increasing rate in the weeks ahead.  Again, cease and desist with the adolescent hysteria.  Chill. Go for a walk in the rain and spare a thought for those football fans with genuine worries.

Remember when the days were long

And rolled beneath a deep blue sky

Didn’t have a care in the world

With mommy and daddy standing by

    When “happily ever after” fails

And we’ve been poisoned by these fairy tales

The lawyers dwell on small details

    Since daddy had to fly

But I know a place where we can go

    That’s still untouched by man

We’ll sit and watch the clouds roll by

And the tall grass waveS in the wind

You can lay your head back on the ground

And let your hair fall all around me

    Offer up your best defense

    But this is the end

This is the end of the innocence

    O’ beautiful, for spacious skies

But now those skies are threatening

    They’re beating plowshares into swords

For this tired old man that we elected king

    Armchair warriors often fail

And we’ve been poisoned by these fairy tales

The lawyers clean up all details

    Since daddy had to lie

But I know a place where we can go

    And wash away this sin

We’ll sit and watch the clouds roll by

And the tall grass waveS in the wind

Just lay your head back on the ground

And let your hair spill all around me

    Offer up your best defense

    But this is the end

This is the end of the innocence

Who knows how long this will last

Now we’ve come so far, so fast

But, somewhere back there in the dust

That same small town in each of us

    I need to remember this

So baby give me just one kiss

And let me take a long last look

    Before we say good bye

Just lay your head back on the ground

And let your hair fall all around me

    1) You believe Glasgow Rangers Fc (In Administration) will escape extinction because:

A – The financial figures involved in their current crisis are over-estimated and will eventually be proved irrelevant by creative accounting and fiscal prudence leading to a glorious future bedazzled with moonbeams.

B- Some stupid Huns in the pub told you so/texted you some outlandish recovey theory.

C- Duff & Phelps (In Magnificence) declared it so.

D- You cognitive reasoning skills are overwhelmed by the emotional fire in your brain every time the remotest mention of escape from the jaws of death is hinted at.

E- None of the above. Mordor will burn, and the flames will be righteous.

    2) You believe the boad of Glasgow Celtic Fc (Champions, financially sane) must act immediately and issue a damning statement about all things Glasgow Rangers Fc (IA) and the SFA/SPL because:

A- Despite being in full possession of the facts about ultimate outcome/sanctions/procedure/pinkie-puller shenanigans the board should publically vent their frustration at the slow death of our mortal enemies and rub their royal blue noses in it because I want tae cackle wi’ glee every time I read it in the MSM or see it on the telly.

B- Basically, I want it NOW! C- It’s not about Celtic and strategy and appropriate behaviour relating to a Public Limited Company’s boad of directors; it’s about ME! And my PANIC!

D- None of the above. I expect to have a saved and regularly watched short video clip in both my phone and laptop of Peter Lawwell at a presser chuckling like Robet De Niro in Goodfellas sometime soon.

    3) There is no 3. Your over-emotional rantings take up too much blog space and spark mass hysteria among others who walk the tightrope between balanced rational thought and the fall into deep flakery.

  17. Hi all.

Just a wee post for some of the long-established CQN community.

I have a fairly mundane office job but on occasions I can escape the shackles of my desk as I have to go to various parts of the country for meetings. Such an occurance happened three weeks ago (I’ve not been able to post since) when I travelled from sunny Tyneside to Northampton.

I shan’t bore you with the details of the meeting I attended but on leaving the room, the chap who I met said to me in his Scottish accent something along the lines of…

“My family history is Irish and with a name like yours I guess yours is too.” He then asked if I was a Celtic supporter which I again confirmed and added my role in Tyneside No1 etc.

“I don’t suppose you go on CQN?” he asked. “Yes I do. I’m St. Martin’s Bhoy, I don’t post as much as I’d like to but Paul has been kind enough to let me write a couple of articles for the magazine.”

The reply came back that he did not post much now either but did I remember seeing “McGrain in Spain” on the blog? “Most certainly” said I. We decided to grab a quick pint together and share stories before heading our separate ways.

Yes, I went to Northampton a couple of weeks ago and met “McGrain in Spain” and he was asking after many of you. He rattled some names off, nearly all of which I’ve forgotten – sorry – but I do recall Kitalba and Celtic First being two of them as well as our host. I am happy to pass on that he is in fine form.

Maybe not the most amazing event but a thoroughly enjoyable one!

One wee footnote, we met on April 23rd and as we sat chatting about all things Celtic over a Guinness, a squad of locals who had been out celebrating their Patron Saint Day gave the pub a rendition of “no surrender to the………” as they dragged their knuckles along the floor.

Two Tims in middlle-England merely looked at each other, took a drink, laughed and counted our Blessings.

If you’re looking in “Mr McGrain”, Paul67 sends his best and I’ll speak to you soon.

    Hail! Hail!
