Motherwell need to get emotions under control rapidly

327

Meeting a self-proclaimed aggrieved opponent is seldom an appetising prospect, but I would rather have Motherwell away tomorrow than any other opponent.

Our opponents have stoked a sense of injustice brought about when their defender impeded Scott Sinclair, and finished the final as a contest.

What Motherwell manager Steve Robinson should not be doing is polluting his thoughts with what has been and gone. He could find himself two goals down within 15 minutes if his players take to the field with anything more than a desire to stop the champions running amok.

Motherwell can go fourth in the table if they win their game in hand, but the experience of Dundee United in 2015 should caution them. United were flying high before facing Celtic four times in succession. A Scottish Cup draw was followed by defeat in the League Cup final, the Cup replay and the league. That period broke United, who were physically and emotionally wrecked by the experience. They slid down the table and into relegation the next season.

After tomorrow, Motherwell have four consecutive away games, all in the league. If they don’t get their emotions under control rapidly, Celtic will punish them and things could get out of control before Christmas.

Colour blind bhoy, thanks . That might explain why they have been mumping their gums about Sunday at every oppurtunity.

Russell has previous with not working with the truth in matters i.e. the letter from Uefa saying sevco were a new club.

I’m assuming Brendan will be emphasing to our players about how Sunday’s well deserved win has not got the credit due cause of the media and Motherwell’s exaggeration of Kipre’s ‘innocence ‘ and reluctance to admit the tackle on Moussa was apalling.

I actually agree with Let’s AllDo the Huddle on this one. All sorts of topics are discussed openly on this blog and mostly respectfully. If you are a Christian and a Catholic Christian as I am then you are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ on 25 December known as Christmas Day. The correct and proper name of the feast. Commercialisation has introduced other terms Crimbo, Xmas, Crimbers and political correctness has introduced Seasons Greetings. We don’t disrespect Hanukkah or any Muslim or Hindu feasts by deliberately corrupting their names. I believe that if you are referring to Christmas in a post then you should use the correct term.

I don’t usually make predictions, but I’ll make an exception tonight.

    1) The huns will win tomorrow.

    2) Celtic won’t get sucked into a kicking match. We’re to smart and disciplined.

I was in a shopping mall last week and a Xmas tree (see what I did there) had a decoration saying Merry Christmas and one of the biggest shopping chains ((Ramayana) in the country are adverising Christmas sales. This is in the biggest muslim country in the world. Indonesia. Don’t know why uk has to change as it doesn’t seem to bother too many people here

  6. Re: Not saying Happy Christmas

“Mary Evans Seeley’s book Season’s Greetings from the White House: The Collection of Presidential Christmas Cards, Messages, and Gifts shows that “Season’s Greetings” was used on White House holiday correspondence by no less than Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 1950s. Likewise, Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton all took care, as well, not to alienate non-Christian recipients of holiday mail. Few people expressed a problem with this long-standing practice until now.”

Season’s greetings is an expression found on Victorian Christmas Cards. The move seemed to stem from commercial motivations not PC ones. The merchants wanted more than one gift giving day.

Christmas was not a US Holiday until 1870.

  7. Yeah Motherwell need to get emotions under control rapidly else they’re gonna be in a lot of trouble!

  8. SFTB

Despite the repealing of the Act in 1686, the suppression of Christmas in Scotland effectively lasted for 400 years, with December 25 only becoming a public holiday in 1958. Boxing Day was not recognised as a festive holiday until 1974.

Its a three 30 mins part series, its about life in the 70’s n 80’s in the six counties, bliddy hate typing N.I. but, ye know how obtuse some folk on here can be, so had to type the title of the series. Its well worth the watch, the last part, part 3 has bits about, Aidan McAnespie, the Gibraltar Murders, and loads more, canny say too much on here, so, its on the iPlayer, dunno how long it will be on there for, 30 days ah think ?

BTW, ye can also get the Sinn Fein conference fae last week. Also, on Monday night there, Scotland Tonight STV, three guests were discussing the new Scottish Labour leader, Richard Leonard’s press conference thingy in front of Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn and, one of the guests, former SNP MP, Michelle Thompson said something, I canny recall word for word but, it went something like this – MT “Richard Leonard wants to introduce a social agenda to lift people out of poverty that stretches way back and, the best example of how effective that type of social agenda’s success can be was, the birth of Celtic Football Club. Just look at Celtic all these years later and, how successful they still are to this day. I mean, the club is winning absolutely everything that they possibly can!”

  12. Good morning all…

Now that we have the League Cup polished and back in the Trophy Cabinet, we can put all Sunday’s (made up) controversies behind us (not a single issue being refered back to the SFA) and we can get on with the Football.

It’s going to be a very interesting few weeks between now and the winter break. Our most important game is obviously Anderlect, hope we have Dembele back for this crucial match.

On the domestic front Aberdeen, Hibs and Sevco all have important matches. We will see who are serious contenders for a European Spot.

I’m hoping Motherwell, who have become a quite vile Club, are out of contention.

I wholeheartedly agree; too often Christians (possibly Catholics in particular) see embarrassed to display their Faith, unlike Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and many others.

It is , IMHO, seen as acceptable to subjugate Christianity because it may “offend” other Faiths. I have never met a non-Chrisitain who practices another Faith being offended by Christian symbols or celebrations.

I am fiercely proud of my religion and have no qualms about telling others that I am a practicing Catholic. If you have any Faith, don’t hide it. Be proud of it.

  15. Didn’t realise my original post re Christmas would spark so many comments – for me the fact that people can point back to the 16thC, where the vast majority of people could neither read nor write, to explain the Greek source is in my opinion irrelevant today. The vast majority of people using the X form are completely unaware of this and do it because they can’t be bothered or don’t want to write the word Christ. Don’t get me started on winterfest.

What I didn’t realise that for all these years I have had Christ-rays watched Christ-men films and played on Christ-Box 4

I also predict the huns will beat Aberdeen based on the cyclical requirement that they be seen again as word beaters and potential European Cup winnersl.

Keeps them living in hope…..and as a cashcow carcass for the rest of the teams in the league.

Strange game, football. Defender maims one forward, fouls another to give away a penalty.

As a result, one forward is injured, another widely labelled a cheat.

The defender receives a one-match ban in a year, rather than the three-match immediate ban for serious foul play that he deserves-and all the sympathy in the world!

    Couldnae happen elsewhere,I reckon.

    Morning M.

Have Celtic took any action on the kipre challenge on Dembele ?

If so, in what form …

  20. If posters want to call Christmas Xmas or whatever we should not be offended.

Just like Celtic CQN is a broad church and open to all. ( within reason )

I am currently in Berlin where over 60% of residents identify themselves as non religious. IN addition to that there are at least 20% of non Christians in the greater Berlin area.

However the Christmas markets are legendary and the decorations are all over the city and in many private dwellings.

I lost my ticket. In fact, I can’t remember if I even bought a ticket. I think I meant to. I also heard that the water was choppy and I had to run a few errands that day anyway.

If you don’t like those excuses, then I have others…

  25. I too am a practicing Catholic & extremely proud to be so.

If someone goes out of their way to take Christ out of Christmas, such as deliberately saying Happy Holidays instead of Happy Christmas then that would offend me.

However I would not go around looking to be offended, if someone writes Xmas, I don’t interpret that as taking Christ out of Christmas.

I’m sure I may have done it myself from time to time but 99% of the time I prefer using the term Christmas.

P.S. I am aware that Christ was not born on 25th December & that Christians picked a date to combat a major pagan feast day that coincided with the shortest date of the year,

Having said all that I’m really looking forward to game tonight. 3 points & no injuries is all I ask, scoreline irrelevant to me.

  26. Christmas / Xmas etc etc .

In Italy — NATALE — from LA NASCITA — the celebration of the birth of GESU .

The related greeting is Buon Natale .

For those who care it is of less significance than PASQUA ( Easter ) .

Italian weans didn’t use to be visited by Santa Claus -now they are – but — the Befana thing ( Epiphany ) is the nearest that my wee part of the world gets to what most of you regard as Christmas.
