Mouyokolo and the Perrier-Doumbe path to immortality

Steven Mouyokolo’s last two permanent contracts were for clubs playing Premier League football in England but after joining Hull City as a 22-year-old and making 21 appearances in their relegation season, his move to Wolves bombed amid a multitude of injuries.  The player has made four appearances for Wolves and four for Sochaux in the last three years.

He no longer has the profile which would be considered in the English Premier League; which is why he’s pitched up in Scotland.  If his knee passes a medical this week, he’ll become the latest 6’3” defender on the Celtic books, competition for Kelvin, Virgil, Charlie, Efe and the rest.

Competition is good but Steven’s chances of edging out the competition to become a first team regular must be considered slight with his injury record, whether he passes the medical or not.  It’s more likely he’ll follow the path of Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe, although Champions League football and a Cup Final winner is not a bad return.

    BTW, they couple of anti-social moonhowling wolf wannabees were nowt to do with me. It was me that showed Lassie to the cave and helped restore world peace, but as usual, I’ll get no thanks for that. Nor should Lassie. It was BMCUW that saved the day while walking his pitbull terrier, lost and looking for Newton train station at 3.30am. Such is life, amigos.

    Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo took me to see ‘Comfort And Joy’ in the cinema. The next day he took me to see my first Celtic game at Love street. We won 2-1. He took me to the Jungle two weeks later. He warned me a guy who stood near them would blame Davie Provan for everything. He wasn’t playing and as the game approached the end and we were drawing with Aberdeen 1-1, the guy blamed Davie Provan for not playing. Celtic had a player brought down who was taken off injured (can’t remember who) and Provan came on as as a sub. Took the free kick and scored. Awe Naw was singing, ‘There’s only one David Provan (for the benefit of said guy).

     

    How times change.

    I just did some research on-line to back up my story. It seems it was a lie.

     

    My first game was on 22nd Sept 1984. Comfort And Joy came out in the cinema on the 10th of October 1984. The Aberdeen game was on the 6th of October.

    Apols for posting this as it’s an akward one.

     

     

    Am I right in thinking the sentiment was right then – things looked they were improving and building thanks to big JS? I was only 5, but me ole Grandad was taking me to Tic games all over central Scotland and the general feeling was unity and good stuff. Until Thatcherism came along, and hunnery became a big symptom of it. :((
