Nerves jangle a week ahead of Europe

890

You and I have been through a few close seasons together, so  it’s no surprise we have this uncomfortable feeling as we look ahead to (hopefully) four hugely important Champions League qualifiers while contemplating how ring-rusty Celtic have looked preseason.  These games really don’t matter, of course, they are there to allow us to experiment and build fitness for the real challenges ahead, but you would rather we were turning teams over 4-0 than being on the receiving end.  Evidence, perhaps, that the experiments were leading somewhere.

Lots of coverage today of the fall-out from Friday’s meeting between the SFA and Sevco, some of it informed.  Huge issues clearly still remain before they will be granted permission to join the SFA but they would not be helped by their prospective manager, Ally McCoist, walking away this week.   Sevco have not sold many season tickets but if McCoist goes their chances of doing to will become increasingly scarce. Friday’s comment from McCoist sounded like a scene-setter for a resignation letter.

Believe me I am not having a go here, but might be able to point you in the right direction re what Paul was referring to.

After I received his email, I went back around a couple of weeks and eventually found a conversation on 6th June that I had missed.

Hector Avocado was talking to Macjay and telling him he was a Latin scholar. You jumped in and outright accused him of being me and an almighty row erupted. Can’t remember the article but it was definitely 6th June and I assumed that had to be what Paul was talking about.

Again, not having a go. Just trying to clear that up.

    Bobby –

    Nothing to apologise for.

Like you, I was actually agreeing with Kitalba in his criticism of Foxy, who I thought was overstepping the mark.

You came on and mentioned to Kit that “we cannot let this idiot take over the blog again”. I assumed you meant SuperSammy, but was horrified when Kit replied to you something about “he is terrified of intercontinental ballistic concrete trucks” and I realised he thought Foxy was me.

Anyway, as I said, no apology necessary mate. I knew you weren’t having a go at me.

I am very tired and going for an early night.

As anyone bored enough to read my posts will know I am a massive fan of the unintentional comic output off the hopeless Davie Legless – a relic from the MSM, who can’t even get a job ahead of the likes of Keech Jackson.

But credit where credit is due. Having had a peek at his blog last night, I have to admit Legless has finally managed to convey some accuracy in his ramblings. The desperation he is currently feeling regarding Sevco is captured in every repeated sentence on his blog.

A different approach, but just as funny.

Simon Cox turned Celtic down before (when he was leaving Swindon). Now he know’s he’s not good enough for the lower rungs of the EPL so he might well consider Celtic now.

Given that Keane is slowly going to be edged out of the Ireland panel, he’d probably want to be somewhere banging in the goals, as opposed to sitting on the bench at WBA, so that he keeps his neb in at international level.

John Mensah-Injury prone CB ? Sounds about right.Craig Beattie-We got £1.2 mil for him,PL’s finest hour, injury prone non scoring striker.

  10. PF

I’m not convinced by this need for a tall aggressive centre forward mate.

Sutton and Hartson aside, the Celtic tradition has always been two players up front, neither of whom were particularly tall.

I know that my memories of watching are limited to around 1980 onwards and that history may well show that we have in fact utilised a big, bustling forward.

Guys like McClair, Judas, McGarvey, McCluskey, Larsson, Nicholas etc weren’t especially tall but all of them could score goals with their head.

They’re all examples of two things. Firstly, none of them were afraid to attack the ball in the opposition penalty box and secondly, it shows what can be achieved with strikers of average height if you put the ball in to the right areas.

Ps I know we had Rambo in the 80’s but he was always a sub when the other two were fit.

Agree on the ‘who blinks first’ angle. Black + Beattie training this morning is imo a move to try and ramp up the pressure on the SFA to give them a licence, as well as trying to desperately boost awful season book sales. They cannot afford to run their squad on the current wage levels much longer, never mind adding circa £15k a week minimum to the salary costs

  12. !!Bada Bing!! on

This wee spat is going to end with,”go on,you hang up first…”, “no way,i’m waiting for you to hang up first….”

  13. Tom,

You are involved. You are the one who broke confindence by posting Paul’s e-mail and now you are involving yourself between me and Paul.

You are the one who let your imagination run riot even after agreeing that you believed, like me, that Foxy was SuperSammy.

  16. How would you know that what I said or didn’t say to Hector Avocado would be what Paul is refering to Tom?

    How could you possibly know?

  17. TMWTL

The fact that they are allegedly in signing talks, whilst refusing to acknowledge the ongoing enquiry into dual contracts ( *corruption* ) is the point where FIFA should step in.

This is an ongoing scandal days before the season kicks off, and my bet is the SFA will blink first.

FIFA should have taken over, a long time ago and if it were in one of UEFA’s home countries, they would have done.

  18. Hold on Black and Beattie are training with them. Correct me if I’m wrong but haven’t we, extended our training facillities to a number of players who we had no intention of signing over the years? It’s relatively common to let an out of contract player do it.

I don’t know about Black but Auchenhowie is relatively close to Beattie’s family, so it would make sense for him to keep fit there. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Accusations of cheating or corruption: Shouldn’t the club be suing for libel?

No matter how any future tax cases or contract investigations turn out, the fact of the matter is that many have chosen to label us cheats or corrupt yet nothing has been proven.

Is there any good reason why the club aren’t taking every last one of these bassas to court?

Re: Accusations of cheating or corruption: Shouldn’t the club be suing for libel?

The problem is that this could boil down to a question of intent over the EBT’s. If they were maladministered was this due to ineptitude and incompetence or was there intent to evade tax in order to pay bigger wages? Given that the tax tribunal seem to be having problems arriving at a judgement, and since I suspect, the burden of proof would be on us, it could be a riky strategy that simply incurs very large tax bills.

Any such legal actions would surely need to backed by the knowledge of a positive outcome of the BTC and even then you will get some that will argue Whtye acted as he did to give us an unfair advantage. I know ludicrous….but that’s the reality.

Does that really matter when nothing has been proven?

What about innocent until proven guilty?

As for Whyte giving us an unfair advantage, it’s not hard to prove that the club was the one who was cheated.

Also, some have said we’ve cheated for years. That’s nothing to do with Whyte.

I don’t understand why tim players are allowed to make these allegations almost on a daily basis. Are they not bringing the game into disrepute?

Beattie will be perpetually injured and Black struggled to control his lunatic tendencies against SPL players.

I can just imagine what he’ll be like against young pups wanting to make a name for themselves in Division 3.
