Nerves jangle a week ahead of Europe

890

You and I have been through a few close seasons together, so  it’s no surprise we have this uncomfortable feeling as we look ahead to (hopefully) four hugely important Champions League qualifiers while contemplating how ring-rusty Celtic have looked preseason.  These games really don’t matter, of course, they are there to allow us to experiment and build fitness for the real challenges ahead, but you would rather we were turning teams over 4-0 than being on the receiving end.  Evidence, perhaps, that the experiments were leading somewhere.

Lots of coverage today of the fall-out from Friday’s meeting between the SFA and Sevco, some of it informed.  Huge issues clearly still remain before they will be granted permission to join the SFA but they would not be helped by their prospective manager, Ally McCoist, walking away this week.   Sevco have not sold many season tickets but if McCoist goes their chances of doing to will become increasingly scarce. Friday’s comment from McCoist sounded like a scene-setter for a resignation letter.

The BBC SPL page is slowly getting up to date, the “Team by Team” section now lists Dundee (although the only headline for Dundee is “Rangers to meet East Fife in Cup”!).

The SPL fixtures and table still shows “Club 12” and 6 of the top 13 headlines feature a former SPL club.

BBC Scotland – must do better…

Sorry, 7 out of the top 13 headlines (I failed to notice that the Norwich headline also has nothing to do with the SPL).

Could the manager please also, get rid of…

Joe Ledley – Too inefective/invisible/never be a Celtic player.

Charlie Mulgrew – If he’s the best player in the country then, Scottish football will shortly follow the huns. And it will !!!

I’m pleased to hear that it is looking fair in EK.

I wish you all a happy day :-)

  7. Did I actually read on this blog that celtic should get rid of Joe Ledley and Charlie Mulgrew? Two of our best players last season. Why not sack Neil Lennon and give Victor Wanyama a free transfer while we’re at it.

Maybe that minimum pricing of alcohol isn’t such a bad idea after all!

I find it fascinating the way photographs are used in the MSM to shape the story agenda.

Brian Kennedy’s new bid for Dead Parrot FC is a case in point.

He is according to the Hunmedia, a ‘goodie’. Therefore, in all media outlets of a hun persuasion he is pictured with a smart phone glued to his ear, looking determined and business like, a man who gets things done, barking orders to his minions ‘buy, buy, sell sell’ ,not to be trifled with etc etc.

Fat Sally is, of course, the greatest living Ranger, ‘fishul, so he must always be pictured looking grim but resolute, full profile, never showing his triple chins or big fat belly.

The hun MSM aren’t sure about Charlie and the Bhoys Green yet, and fear they might still need to trade with him in the grand adventure that is Huns in Div 3. Pictures of him are neutral, tending towards the shifty looking. No all out assault on him yet, egg on tie, stained and old suit, head in hands, picking nose etc etc. The pics will exist but are being held in reserve, meantime, I suspect.

Craigy Whyte used to be a goodie but is now so far to the baddie end of the spectrum the dials have had to be re calibrated. The problem with him, at the start, when he was a goodie, was that he still looked like a spivvy cissy boy with the worst haircut in history , ever. So it was hard for them to make him look human even when the line was that he would ride in on a big white charger and save der Hun. Now, any story about him has that lipchewing gurning picture, or worse.

They must think we’re all stupid.

I genuinely didn’t realise that KITALBA was having a pop at you when he was reaming Foxy1888.

It was only yesterday afternoon when, catching up,I read a comment-from SYDNEY TIM,I think, apologies if wrong-that I realised what was going on.

Your post was also on the “catch-up” section.

The point is,I think I was one of the posters who was supportive of Kit on Friday/Saturday morning particularly as he went after Foxy.

    And I still am,btw!

But I wouldn’t have posted what I did had I read the situation better.

In essence,I am really sorry for any distress caused on my part;I simply wish you guys had had your first disagreement over a beer.

You would probably be looking forward to your next one,as many people do,with someone with a different take to similar ideals.

    But,c’est la vie,Tom.

I hope your upcoming procedure is a raging success.

Take care, bud, and please accept my apologies.

  13. For what it’s worth I would consider Olof Mellberg and John Mensah as cheap CBs. Mellberg has the Sweden connection in his favour and still looks like a decent player at 34. Mensah has a real physical presence and would breeze the SPL. I reckon if we fix the central defence and bring in a good striker we should be capable of reaching the group stages and cleaning up domestically.

If Michael Owen is open to coming to Scotland for realistic wages then he is another free transfer I would consider.

nah Golgotha’s distinction between the Colonial British fascists that the IRA fought and the Spanish colonial ones is that the Spanish ones belonged to a group that carried symbols of a guy nailed to 2 bits of wood. Sorta like a lost soul in the god squad. Like many it seems.

Totally agree! They had a real problem with Whyte, due to his tendency to wear suits 2 sizes to small for him, thus accentuating his googly-ness.

The real lesson is Lenny, however. They have a rota of about 5 “snarling” pics of our manager, which are used no matter what the context:

    “Lenny pleased to win league”

“Lenny not upset about RFC demise”

“Lenny visits sick kids’ hospital and hands out x-boxes and sweeties”
