Nerves jangle a week ahead of Europe

890

You and I have been through a few close seasons together, so  it’s no surprise we have this uncomfortable feeling as we look ahead to (hopefully) four hugely important Champions League qualifiers while contemplating how ring-rusty Celtic have looked preseason.  These games really don’t matter, of course, they are there to allow us to experiment and build fitness for the real challenges ahead, but you would rather we were turning teams over 4-0 than being on the receiving end.  Evidence, perhaps, that the experiments were leading somewhere.

Lots of coverage today of the fall-out from Friday’s meeting between the SFA and Sevco, some of it informed.  Huge issues clearly still remain before they will be granted permission to join the SFA but they would not be helped by their prospective manager, Ally McCoist, walking away this week.   Sevco have not sold many season tickets but if McCoist goes their chances of doing to will become increasingly scarce. Friday’s comment from McCoist sounded like a scene-setter for a resignation letter.

  1. and as for Kelvin

he’s not the finest and i’d take a few bob for him

however, got to say, he played fairly well in the past game or two,

as far as i could see

unlikely, but he may come good

I can’t help but like a player named after one of the greatest scientific minds ever, especially one from my alma mater.

I hope Wilson is thermo-dynamic next season. (thumbsup)

Wilson like a lot of players come to the backwater with expectations, rarely do they get it in time, stage fright is a big issue.

I agree with all your comments, his last year was probably indicative of the malaise that set in during wee Gordon’s last season.

The moaning at team m8s incessantly done my head in and it got worse as Celtic were struggling. Having said all that, I would also take him back now because there is no doubt in my mind that he would really appreciate playing for Celtic again and would give more than 100% every time he wore the shirt. He will realise now what he is missing.

Scott macdonald was/is as much a Celtic fan as the real skippy I would say mate.

To celebrate the way he did, not once but twice!! Im sorry, yes play your heart out against Celtic and yes have joy at scoring but to celebrate like you have just won the world cup in a game meaningless to your team??? No way not a Celtic fan, not ever.

Don’t forget he was all ready to join for the hun too.

Dispised his attitude and never forgave him for the way he celebrated that day, even after his goals against the hun. Wee crabbit man who thought he was better than he was.

Hooper is a far better player, and plays with a bit of the humility macdonald lacked.

I remember that goal well. Actually think Robson was marking that thug, but Lafferty gets ahold of him and stops him matching McCulloch’s run. Caldwell got the blame afterwards but he spotted the danger too late.

As above, it would not be the worst move. And you have basically covered it. :))

He had a good knack of scoring in big games, which is important.

He could be another well scouted gold nugget. Here is hoping he is. I consider Beram to be at the very top of our players at Celtic so if he is of that standard we will have done very well.

Each to their own opinion mate.

Hoops is a good player, but check the stats, they’ll confirm who has the most attributes.

Re that defeat and Motherwell’s goals, the guy is a professional footballer.

As to signing for them, several supporters of our club have either done or considered it.

What wee Gordon done at Celtic was remarkable, there is no need for a passage of time to realise this.

For some reason it stopped happening for him at Celtic but the way he carried on from Martin was exceptional.

Tommy Burns was obviously a very big loss to a lot of people at Celtic, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Gordon felt that the most, both as a personal friend and as him being that link man to the players.

A Legend of Celtic just like Martin before him.

  26. CultsBhoy loves being 1st forever & ever on

Loved Skippy he was a real Celtic fan living the dream but he is a backward step from Hooper… Maybe even Stokes. I’d hate to see Skippy keep out Tony Watt.

If injuries hit Sammy could play solo but he’s better ‘in the hole’..

A good call – for the 2nd leg.

I really hope we don’t go with 4-4-2 against the HJK dudes at home or away, 4-5-1/4-3-3 for definite.

I can’t see Neil going with your choice, I’m sure he will play Gary as the main man up top at home anyway.

I would let Sammi do his own stuff up top over in Helsinki, even if it means Gary dropping to the bench.
