New, social, CQN, Elvis is dead!

And we’re back!  What a two days of systems nightmare.  We went down at 7pm on Thursday.  No conclusive information on why, we have had traffic volume related outages before, but this was on a more serious and persistent basis. We had to move the database to a new location and restore from backup to recover, we lost a few days articles. Better not speak to me about Fasthosts for a while.

We got access to the databases this morning and took the opportunity to upgrade facilities in the background.  We’re on a new incarnation of WordPress and now have Facebook and Twitter integration.  Good news is you can link your Celtic Quick News account with your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts, and share information from CQN to your social network timeline.

To do so:
Login to Celtic Quick News.
Cick on your name at the top of the Comments box to access your profile.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to access the Facebook and Twitter links.
Update your profile.

You will then see a Share link beside your comments.

Should we be Celtic Slow News for today?  Here it is:

Rennes 1-1 Celtic.
Hugely important second half performance and Joe Ledley goal.
Your favourite billionaire is getting divorced and has claimed he has no money!  Oh dear.
One year on, the SFA are still smoking out religiously offensive correspondents!
The Berlin Wall fell and I hear Elvis is dead.

Have a try at the Facebook and Twitter links and let me know what you think of it.  I’m off for a break but will catch up later.

Most importantly, there is a Celtic fan called Andrew who will be walking about Belfast in a daze this weekend.  If you see him, but him a beer.

  1. KANO FOUNDATION

An update on who to look out for in the lisbon lions stand this weekend. Guests of The Kano Foundation will be St Mary’s FC from Donegal. Their manager John Duffy says this about his club:

“We give the school children of the parish of

clonmany/urris/rashenny Co Donegal football.I take several teams football and

would love for them to experience match day at parkhead ,

I myself am a season book holder through St

Margarets in Duleek , and travel over as often as i can and would love these kids in

our team to get to a football game as most of the kids will not ever get to a SPL

game or even a league of Ireland game , to take them to see Celtic in my home town

would be a great experience for them and something that will stay in their minds

forever. The wains always ask me about it at training and i’m always bragging how

great Celtic are compared to the english teams a lot of them follow .

I’m not much of a BOLDER but the last line sticks out for me. Let’s make sure that these kids leave the EPL behind and return home as Celtic supporters.

Hey lads and it’s good to see CQN back up and running.

First up, thanks for all the birthday messages yesterday friends. Much, much appreciated.

Just catching up with the posts, but Auldheid’s latest ones jump out at me.

Mate, you appear to be talking about “conditions” under which we will help Rangers in the event this all ends the way it increasingly looks like.

Let me tell you right now, I for one am against helping them in any way, for any reason, under any conditions, and there are three reasons why.

1st, It would be Bad Business. To actually lend a hand to your rivals, your biggest competitors, knowing they WILL benefit, face you off and one day might have the chance to put YOU to the wall? Madness.

2nd, If Celtic leverage conditions out of Rangers, you and others can dress it up any way you like as being “for the benefit of the game” or even our own club, but none of it will wash. What we will have engaged in is a carve up, in a charade, in a fraudulent attempt to restructure the Scottish game to help out a team which, by benefit of illegal activity, got itself into trouble. That will damn the Scottish game as corrupt and bent, and run by charalatans and crooks, and it will do that for all time. If such a cut-up, if such a scandal, is being perpetrated we should be firmly and unmistakably on the other side of the fence, opposing it in every way. It would be outrageous to absolve Rangers of the same fate which would await any other club which behaved in this way, let alone give them a pass when clubs who, through no fault of their own, have suffered similar indignity.

If Celtic involves itself in a shameful display of blatant cheating – and rewriting the rulebook cause the rules no longer suit you IS cheating – then shame on them, shame on all who accept it.

3rd, and most importantly … Rangers is not just a business which has broken the rules, a company which has defrauded its way to financial returns and a football club which has cheated its way to trophies, at our expense, I might add … it is an institution wholly at odds with everything we are. They are bigoted, racist, nationalist, imperialist and an evil Scottish society need not, and should not, be forced forever to tolerate. This club will not reform, and so it is fitting that they should die, and if the people who run OUR institution act to keep them alive then they are a disgrace to the name of Celtic and they have sullied everything that has come before them.

It will be the biggest outrage in the history of our club, and I tell you, there will be no way back from it.

    ===============================================================

    But it WILL happen, James.

Because Sky TV hold the sword of Damocles over us. They want ‘Old Firm’. They will get ‘Old Firm’.

That is how this sham will play out, agonisingly sad though it will be to watch; Celtic Plc wll capitulate, and be complicit – they have no other choice. The ‘new’ Huns will gain their first major payday from the resurrected pay deal.

Oh, and happy birthday, old b’stard.

  3. TET

How’s it going mi amigo ?

Spirits have lifted after a decent performance in France.

Here’s hoping for better things tomorrow.

Would it not be a good time for Neil to acknowledge he needs

assistance sorting out the defence and bring in someone with a bit

    of experience.

  4. Do I take things to personally on here or is it possible for one post to put ye off yer beer :))

    Evil.

  6. Re Game tomorrow, Am I right in thinking that the corrosponding fixture last year was the 9-0 game?

    Would settle for 2-0 tomorrow.

  7. Sandman

I will bet good money that the Celtic Board do not vote to save Rangers.

There would be genuine civil (and not so civil) unrest amongst our fans if they were seen to betray us on this.

  8. Sandman

I tend to agree with you, but, for the sake of a few million quid, the club have a duty to the supporters to take a chance, that without the hun for a few years, they will recoup much more than a few million quid.

And they have the chance to bury the sectarian garbage that follow follows them, if the government and indeed scottish society are indeed true to their word about wanting rid, this is the chance.

  9. Nollaig a chara on

I’m afraid to say I think we’ve turned a corner cause everytime I do we end up collapsing

I hate the feelin, with Libya and other arenas, that the lens we’re lookin through is provided by the agencies who want us to see a particular picture. One where the people, of their own volition, rise against a despot and march under banners to victory. Its simple, and is cheap fare to the news grazers.

I don’t have enough knowledge of the situation to form a clear opinion. Some would have it that the Gadaffi regime did not provide paradise, but which government has? – maybe they should give the immigrant Irish a shout.

Some would have it that he rescued a country from the clutches of oil companies backed by the avarice of western powers, improved the lives of the average Libyan, and that this progress has all been forgotten about by later generations.

Revolutions, governments, and cultures are always transient and never clean – because they’re made by people. They fail most savagely when they aren’t, or can’t be, challenged.

For this revolution – why now? Why did the west take such an active role here and not in other places? What was the extent of our, the Americans, and Nato’s involvement, and why did it so obviously extend beyond the resolution? Why, when this happened, did the UN not challenge? An why, prior to all this, were we bending over backwards to establish, build, and maintain relations with an individual we suddenly revile?

And why are the media not asking these questions?

Hypocrisy is singin a song, but nobody’s listenin…. its not on x-factor

I worded my post badly, no I don’t want a pro Celtic agenda, but I want Celtic to lead the way in establishing a fair system.

In Poland they have a fair system, after every round of games, the referees performances are disected by the TV, and any mistakes are punished, the refs do not make very many mistakes.

This is what we should be pushing for, complete and utter transparancy, there could be no hiding place for the hun refs, none at all.

This is what I want Celtic to push for.

Do you honestly believe that dodgy pro hun decisions would be dissected ????

  13. Blantyretim.

Should be in Queens St around 12.15pm as it’s a Sunday service it will depend on the timetable when I actually get there.if your going for a swally give us a ring on Sunday morning, either before, or after, you go to church

  14. Celtic should sever all business with rangers now. We cannot be seen to be part of their demise.

    Distance ourselves.

When they go into administration, demand an enquiry by UEFA of the SFA.

  15. setting free the bears

They don’t need to – they’d probably abstain and let the other clubs vote. The end result would be the same.

Administration is the opposite of what Whyte wants. Why would he want to be the chairman of a club that’s limping along while it pays off its creditors? The best thing for him would be liquidation, New Rangers, tax bill gone, and a buyer in 2012 – it’s win win and that’s what he’s aiming for.

  16. tommytwiststommyturns on

SFTB – I hear you, but I have to agree with Sandman. Unless we have a guaranteed route to a better environment than the SPL, then this board will do it’s usual OF self-preservation act.

These people seriously considered playing THEM in the States….actually bought into the idea of it FFS !!! Thank God posters on here and other Hoops sites managed to sabotage that particular act of insanity.

The actions of the people running our club tells you everything you need to know about their future behaviour. They will believe that they can ride out the storm with the Hoops fans, without suffering major commercial losses.

I posted that, and presently there is not a hope in hell of that happening.

We as a club hold all the cards, every single last one, and this is what we should push for, and if the sfa are not willing to support a system where the refs are accountable and transparent, why not, what have they got to hide.

If we shout loud enough, we can get this, they have it in Poland, it works, why not here ?

Are Celtic willing to accept being second class citizens ?

Shout for it, it’s fair and it will improve the game in scotland.

    We can make it happen.
