Newco choose innuendo instead of action

904

Newco did not disappoint with last night’s statement, it was as incoherent, angry and contradictory as you would expect.  They claim:

“We are extremely concerned that member clubs were not provided with enough information, or time, to allow them to make fully informed decisions”.

They were allowed 28 days to ask for as much information as they wanted before voting!  Newco and most others were able to respond within two days – by choice.

“We are aware several club directors claimed they were being bullied”.

Several people we are not naming were bullied by someone we are not naming.  This is like the evidence of wrongdoing they say they have but would rather not show anyone.  To quote their founding manager, “Who are these people?”

They want to sound hard but have chosen to shut up instead of revealing anything – nice one.

“Addressing the [financial hardship of many of our clubs]was one of our primary objectives and the resolution we presented could and should have been progressed”.

“The SPFL chose to obstruct our resolution”.

“The fact that this solution was not afforded sufficient consideration defies belief”.

An independent QC was employed to examine their resolution and found it was not competent and could not be put to members.  They claim to want independent oversight but completely ignore independent oversight has happened.

“There is precedent within Scottish football that a league must not be compromised by changing the rules during the course of the competition.”

Again, a claim shrouded in innuendo, this time an unexplained precedent.  If I was a betting man, I would say they forgot the league schedule was extended in 2008 to accommodate Oldco (I regularly hear of this amnesia), and are referring to the fact that it was not extended as long as they wanted.

“The anger of our fans is understood and shared by our Board, who continue to examine all legal options available.”  Newco do so well in court, the SPFL board must be terrified.

The statement confirms they have a problem accepting rules.  An independent QC explained to Newco MD Stewart Robertson and the rest of the SPFL board why Newco’s resolution could not be pursued.  Robertson was asked if there was anything more he wanted to ask and if he felt the matter had been given sufficient consideration by the SPFL board.

It was not the SPFL board, the chief exec, a retained solicitor or any other malign foe who stopped their resolution, it was an independent QC.  These are the rules, they were independently enforced, accept them.

Remember this SPFL vote did not end the Premiership season, all it did was ensure the season will not be voided, all other options remain on the table.  It’s not much of a hill to stand and fight on in these difficult times.

  1. I have always had great regard for the BBC, especially as I lived a far long time overseas, but I have no respect whatever for their Scottish sports department. I heard about 10 seconds of their interview with Budge this afternoon. She was allowed to mouth her version of events without any questioning . Tom English at his “best” in interviewing??

The question is , how was she given the job ?

Was a vote taken ? Was a request made for volunteers ?

Or was an executive decision made ? If so , by whom ?

Is she just being given enough rope ?

I wonder if Peter is able to sort out this nonsense . Actually I don`t .

Crafty Peter has the best hand , more moolah than all the others combined , and he`s playing it slow .

TIME is on our side. It sure isn`t on ” theirs ” .

  5. Ann Budge, what a buffoon. No title unless 38 games played? What if we’d played 37 games and were 20 points in front and already champions, still void it because not played 38 games? What if one team goes bust a week before end of season and can’t complete fixtures. Abject nonsense.

I’m all in favour of an independent enquiry looking at governance issues and to ‘righting some wrongs’ so long as it covers the last 20 years.

  7. Edwin Van der Sar is a close contact with Peter Lawwell and both are on the ECA committee. Celtic and Ajax often form common purpose as clubs in the smaller Leagues who are former European Champions/

Tom English is your example of an “uncle Tom” who is prepared to take the BBC line to ingratiate himself and get the Beep shilling

Your guess is as good as mine. Looks like some kind of Ad Hoc body, but one specifically linked to the decision to wrap up the lower divisions last week, and possibly to Dundee’s vote. Maybe your team had to be bottom of the league to get on board.

  9. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

You can`t have one law for the ” lower leagues ” and another for the Premiership.

    Peter knows this.

League recon. Most probably a con . A sop to smooth out the wrinkles.

Did good old Tom ask Anne how she’d if voted if Hearts were sitting second bottom.

This is incredulous stuff. Are they really trying to make us think Budge is acting out of anything other than self-interest?

  14. on Sportsound this afternoon,

Billy Dodds slaughtered John Nelms. Mentioned how he was once supposed to get job of assistant manager. It fell through.

He then goes on to say…

” I’ve got my own agenda with John Nelms,

i wouldn’t want him in the trenches with me,

    I couldnt trust the guy.

It’s no fluke how it unfolded with the guy”

Nobody on the panel jumped in to say

“John Nelms isn’t here to defend himself”.

It was just allowed to hang there.

They then play second instalment of the interview with Ann Budge, who revealed details of private communications and texts between her and John Nelms leading up to the vote.

So from the horses mouth there was evidence of collusion on the No Vote campaign , Uncle Tom didn’t take her up on that. The No Campaingers are calling out the fact that there was collusion to acieve a Yes vote.

She said the Yes voters “are not acting in the best interests of Scottish Football, but are acting out of self interest”

    Yes Ann, we hear you….

She took her 30 pieces of silver , by heading up the reconstruction talks but has in essence ditched the Huns.

Incredible that the BBC have assembled a panel of individuals ( two weeks in succession) who are evidently not qualified to comment.

I was given that response when i asked about Res12. When i asked about the unusual emails between Regan and Rangers it was suggested to me that should someone have access to emails between the SFA and Celtic, then interpretation could make those emails look suspicious when they are not. At this point a Board member entered the conversation and it was relayed to him, in a strangely jovial and causal manner, what we were discussing, the Board member immediately looked to shut down the conversation, saying he was ‘talking to the guys’ (you will probably know who it is now) and quickly moved away.

I was left with an overriding feeling that Celtic see the SFA as an enabler of the licence rather than an examiner and that in all honesty they either don’t get it or aren’t interested.

    ======================

Thanks. The inescapable conclusion is that Celtic know that club licencing i(n Scotland anyway) is a sham and shadow and are quite prepared to accept it as they were the LNS Commission having been provided after it concluded with evidence of the DOS side letters , one of the reasons being a few clubs would be refused a licence because of dependence on no football earned money including of course “Rangers”.

That in turn means the game is unregulated shadow which means that when disasters come like the 2008 bank crash or Covid19 , it collapses.

My hope is that in its attempts to recover the game and its followers exit the cave we all have been sitting in for years.

    https://youtu.be/SWlUKJIMge4

and although I fear the truth will be too unpalatable for some I hope that with patience and encouragement we will end up with something real that will therefore endure.

  19. All this scrambling round to save Hearts?….If it was livingston or hamilton nobody would be losing much sleep……everybody everywhere is placed after 30 games on merit.Nothing could be fairer. As NL said way back the average points should be applied and the league finished.

Despite what you hear from our beloved bbc shortbread.Losing hearts and their horrible supporters will be no great loss.Like their manky cousins from govan perhaps they should have done their talking on the park when the ball was still in play instead of in statements afterwards.

  20. Remember this is a Hearts club who’s supporters continually sing sectarian songs, attacked Neil Frances Lennon and Scott Sinclair, they are disgusting bigots.

    Get them to feck.

They could not get up the league or stay up on their own merit so bye bye Hearts. As far as I’m concerned.
