Newco spend a penny then PR turns on Celtic fans

993

You may have read a story released by Newco’s PR agent to their go-to Glove Puppet in the media about a dispute over payment for damages to Celtic Park when Newco fans made their first visit to the stadium.

I heard before the Hogmanay game that Newco would be paying the damages their fans did on that occasion, and that Celtic would pay for any damage caused by our fans Ibrox that week. What I didn’t know at the time was that Celtic unilaterally decided this would be the case.

Concerned there may be reprisals following the vandalism to Celtic Park, the club informed Newco they would let it be known that we would pay for any damage to Ibrox by visiting fans – as long as we could inspect the damage we would be charged for.

The Hogmanay match passed without incident; tea light candles were left in visiting toilets to diffuse washroom odours, Celtic were not taken up on their offer to inspect and pay for damage, none was reported to match observers, police or Celtic.

Celtic had earlier issued Newco with a request for payment for the vandalism their fans inflicted on our stadium. Payment was not received, so this week we withheld the same amount from ticket money due to Newco.

The issue is finished; no one is withholding money from Celtic. There is no story.

We’ve not had to deal with nonsense like this for four years and we’d gladly never deal with it again. The issue was placed in the media today by PR, alluding to damages Celtic offered to pay for, but which didn’t happen. Be clear on this – Celtic offered to pay for any damages but no damage was reported.  The PR stunt is a deliberate attempt to damage the good reputation of Celtic fans.  Is it any wonder print media sales are dropping off at such an alarming rate for some?

Let’s remember, this is the same PR used by SPFL sponsor, Ladbrokes, an unacceptable action by a representative of the league’s sponsor.  It’s as though some are too angry to stomach the great news that Celtic have secured the £2.8m signing of Ivorian Kouassi Eboue without lashing out.

The club are delighted to have secured Kouassi. Despite his age, he’s first team ready, and has the character and ability to go a long way in the game. Between now and our cup finals in August, he’ll settle into Scotland and into a championship winning team.

I can see your site being well used to challenge the more emotional outbursts of some when their favourite whipping Bhoy makes a mistake or two. Well done.

very good analysis, no doubt JF having his best ever season and contribution.

i also read the ronny v brendan stats, quite remarkably similar, and yet we all feel its now better to watch (better players, moving the ball faster ?)

  4. A friend of mine is a friend of a very close friend of Michael O’Hallaron. He told me only 4 players at Poundland speak to MO, 2 of them are Millar and Forrester, can’t remember the others. Halliday completely ignores him altogether because of his background.

  5. Level 5 will be working for their dosh in the weeks ahead me thinks.

Humped on their jolly jape in Germany, a prominent airline reporting the knuckle dragging scum to the German polis, their two super dooper loan signings are pyoor pish, that is going to be the best bit of the spin, time to bed in for them me thinks, eight thousand made the trip and were welcomed with open arms will be the call.

See them fading red lights in the distance, that is us disappearing into the yonder, it hurts billy, it hurts big time and the hurt is only gonna get worse for you cheating hun scum.

Saint Stivs on 15th January 2017 9:03 pm – I will try my best to avoid confirmation bias and indeed the team performance stat similarity surprised me – the impact of finishing your chances in football is huge

Jim payne on 15th January 2017 9:06 pm – fair feedback. Todays was only 500 words but lots of tables! I will try and do snippets – probably via Twitter – things like individual stats for players once we start playing again – who had most passes; most tackles, how many shots Griff attempted etc

Only saw the highlights but it looks as if we dodged a bullet with Jason Denayer.

No timing in jumps, poor positioning, poor passing

His hair looked good. Got carried away with his season here I think. Thought he had arrived.

Should have paid more attention to Izzy while he was here. Shame.

  10. CELTIC BY NUMBERS on 15TH JANUARY 2017 8:41 PM

    Very impressive analysis.

However 36 assists for a winger and 36 goals over 8 years is not my idea of reborn or impressive.

He has under BR performed much better but that’s because we have slowly lowered the bar of expectation,so a marginal performance is now deemed as ” Re-Born “.

Here is a statistic. At no time over the past 8 years can I recall a clamour from the SMSM to sell Young James,if he is so integral then that is a contradiction to his importance, given they are trying to sell Dembelle and Tierney who have literally months of appearances to JF’s years.

Tidy enough on occasions but is a contradiction to the high energy pressing defending game required by BR,the same policy which has done for Commons and perhaps Biton.

I was there today, how to cook 30 minute meals, was a really good day out.

Excellent set up and the meals simple but interesting way to cook correctly

Cooked sea bass, Chicken with pesto and Parma ham, sweet potato and vegetables to go, plus a mushroom and pea risotto

Would definitely go back, and consider the steak course

    EXCATHEDRA

Davie Provan scored 28 goals in nine seasons

Joe Miller scored 28 in six.

If Jamsie scored 36 in eight seasons it compares favourably with them. At least on a par. IMO of course.

Your point regarding where Forrest is given his age is well made. He is 25 and should be entering peak years. The improvement in productivity this season is encouraging, But as I conclude – he really needs to do this consistently over time.

I think we may see tomorrow that Roberts at 19 is already showing the results in performance to suggest a higher calibre of player than Forrest. Although, young players do not develop / perform in a linear manner.

  16. Hunderbirds are Gone on

I like Forrest, because he is the fastest player I have ever seen.

We will, never be able to afford players that can go head to head with the very best in Europe, the very elite. But if your faster………

Jamesie looks like he’s towing a caravan next to Lennox and Cadete .

  18. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

    James Forrest.

Performance declined under Deila . Mind you , he had other things on his mind.

    Much improved under Brendan.

Hopefully we have still to see his best .

At worst he is an excellent option for the last half hour.

Perhaps because of his speed against a tiring opposition.

  19. HUNDERBIRDS ARE GONE on 15TH JANUARY 2017 9:53 PM

Joe Miller did well, but like JF never achieved his full potential or Aberdeen form, with us.

Davy Provan I would suggest created many more chances, and in many ways was similar to Forrest re not fulfilling potential, never a firm favourite of mine, but forgive him for “the ” free kick.

“Forrest fastest you have seen” I cant debate that as I do not know your breadth of watching or age,I would not put him in that category vs my watching experience.

As you said all about opinions.

  20. Tremendous stuff by Everton today against Man City. Two of the Toffees goal scorers today aged 19yrs and 18yrs.

  21. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Any word if there were any Hibs fans on the flight? Maybe they were goading the Sevconians….???

  22. Fastest Celt

Jimmy Quinn (68-74). Would have beat Allan Wells. Then Didier. Saw him go past Lovenkrands – who was quick- on beach ball Sunday like he was David Weir. And then the Buzzbomb. Lost at least 10 goals a season by being given wrongly offside.

  23. Bit disappointed in the Leipzig fans not having the humourous wits to steal a big bull, paint it red and loose it upon the Hun vermin.

  24. Real Madrid lost tonight 2-1 v Sevilla. First defeat in 40. It seems our old record may stand up for a while longer. Not that the Daily Radar were keeping track…

  25. James Forrest was always a very good player.

Injury and its consequent effect on consistent selection and confidence hampered his progress.

Some supporters painted themselves into a corner with their opinions during that period, and as with Fraser Forster, cannot trust the evidence of their own eyes this season.

James is, has been and will be a very good player. Paddy Roberts might become even better, which is a great problem to have. If Calvin Miller can kick on too, we are spoiled for choice.

  26. Sftb Agree that JF on his day is a smashing player but over the course of his Celtic career to date he has been inconsistent with as many poor performances as good ones imho. Hh

  27. As for fastest, I think young Jimmy Quinn was the fastest. Didier was very quick too over 40 to 60 yards. However, Bobby Lennox always claimed he was not the quickest at sprinting but said he did have the first 10 yards in his head by anticipation and over 15 to 20 yards he had great acceleration.

Many players are too quick to play football successfully. Aiden McGeady used to suffer from this as he did not slow down sufficiently before throwing over his cross or picking someone out. Cha Du Ri had a similar failing. Players who can accelerate and decelerate over short distances have a better chance of maintaining control of the ball. Lennox was excellent at this, Forrest is very good at it.

I do not recall Cadete as fast over any distance longer than 3 yards.

  28. What is the Stars on

    TET

Re our erstwhile city rivals and their new signings.

Toral may well be useless but I think Hyndman could be a good signing for them

Good pal of mine had a son playing for Fulham a few years ago,( played for their youth team and reserves until he got a very bad knee injury which effectively ended his football career at 18,very sad) however back in 2012 I went with his dad to watch him play for their youth team in Fulhams training complex. On an adjacent pitch there was an under 15 game which was attracting a lot of attention,at half time we chatted to some of the Fulham Coaching staff and they explained the big interest in this game was the young american kid from Dallas that they had signed,a lot of the big clubs were interested in him but Fulham were chuffed to have signed him.It was Hyndman, unfortunately for him his career has not progressed as expected but some of this was due to Fulhams relegation and his own injury problems, last year the then Fulham manager was qouted as saying he didnt want to sell Dembele ( what ever happened to him) and Hydnman as they were 2 very good young prospects.

    But sure you never know

  29. Gordon^$

As I said, being injury free leads to form and confidence. When James has these periods, he is very good. He had 2, at worst, 2 and a half injury strewn seasons. Some wrote him off as finished but many players have gone on to have great careers after having a couple of dodgy periods.

Look at Davie Cooper and Ally McCoist under John Greig- they were hopeless but both kicked on and came back to haunt us in the days of the old club

BTW Bobby Lennox himself told me that, as a young player at Celtic, one of the terracing worthies told him “You’ll never make it as a player, son!”

  30. Irrespective of speed, I prefer Paddy R to James

    Better end product, imho ?

McAvennie could also shift over 5-10 yards,

And Niall McGinn was no slouch

Agate fastest over more than 10 yards ( or metres for those who now use that ) :-)
