News doesn’t pay anymore

801

At the start of the week our man in Poland sent me a link to the Croatian outlet who interviewed Nikica Jelavic.  I mentioned the player in an article yesterday and recalled his earlier comments, which I referenced as background information.    This ‘news’ was subsequently carried by today’s radio and print outlets in Scotland.

It’s maybe a low blow to bring out the ‘Lazy journalism’ point on the day Scotland’s formerly-largest newspaper shed journalists, although the point is perfectly illustrated, but lazy journalism always found its place in the past.  The real problem has little to do with the standard of journalism on offer, it’s about business models in the old media.  News doesn’t pay unless you can tax consumers or bundle it with paid-for football channels, which is not a good thing.

Looks like he has spent very little of his own money on Hertz FC and now owns a prime piece of Edinburgh real estate, while Hertz gets to owe his bank a ton of money.

Mad Vlad could buy and sell these Scottish football monkeys… (thumbsup)

Just like to say a big thank you to everyone how has supported The Kano Foundation through the last 18 months . As you know , we grew out of the Bringing Martin Home campaign and a desire to spread the generosity of our family. Celtic posted a very supportive article http://celticfc.net/newsstory?item=1956 and are now looking forward to our 1967th, 1888th and 2000th child .

is to have been entered into a confidential period of consultation the new “mutually consented” ?

    ——

    nearly-

30 day individual redundancy consultation (unless there have been over 99 in a recent rolling period)

-business lays out it’s plan/proposal -“want to remove your role now but may consider any valid suggestion why we should not do that and try to find you another roles…may take up to 30 days etc

generally at that level they work out a compromise agreement (mutual consent)

to’ tbh I wonder why that has not already been done unless they fear that Jabba will turn the tables and complain he was not given the opportunity to consult or get offered just joan’s job :-) which for 99.99999% of our population I would defend to the absolute hilt…not for that turkey tho’ as his family will be well provided for ..or should be

personally I would play it by the book with him:

30 days consultation – hear his views etc

then thank him for all his help

he will get a deal from DR and he still has the oul’ auntie beeb to comfort him and his bank account

so don’t worry too much about him-) save that for the honest hard working joes that have no leverage our nous to negotiate and get lumped with the basic legal min. ..not much!

Four Senior Names at Record in Redundancy Talks

Four of the most senior editorial names at the Daily Record are in redundancy talks with the paper’s publisher, Trinity Mirror.

It is understood executive sports editor, Jim Traynor; plus deputy editor, Bob Caldwell; assistant editor, Tom Hamilton; and former managing editor, Derek Stewart-Brown, are in talks with the publisher, which last month parted company with Bruce Waddell, editor-in-chief of the Daily Record and sister title, the Sunday Mail, as part of a revamp of Trinity Mirror’s Scottish operation.

The revamp, named Media Scotland, saw Allan Rennie, former Sunday Mail editor – and more recently editorial development director of Trinity Mirror’s national titles – named as the new editor-in-chief.

Stewart-Brown has recently operated as head of motors and commercial supplements. Over the last few years, Traynor has carved a very successful parallel career as a football pundit, and host of a football phone-in, on BBC Radio Scotland.

A spokesperson for Trinity Mirror told allmediascotland.com: “We can confirm we have entered into a confidential period of consultation with four senior members of staff from Media Scotland.”

Can someone confirm that Sone Aluko’s “pay your own money to play for us” contract was only for three months, that it expires at the end of January and that Rangers will have to recompensate him if he’s to sign a longer term deal?

  12. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I notice that Craig Gordon played his first game after a long injury for a Sunderland eleven earlier in the week and he kept a clean sheet.I have heard rumours that Celtic are talking to him as he is out of contract in the summer I think he would be a good signing.H.H.

  13. Further to Jabba getting his Harry potters at the DR, what’s the betting that the fat Jannie takes a long walk off a short plank sometime soon? Bets on Ian Ferguson (curently in OZ) getting the gig?

My information is that we are most definitely interested in Gordon as we were in the summer, he was too rich as he would command a fee then. Different ball game now. I understand there would be willingness on his part to return north.

    Keep the Faith!

I’m sure it was in the papers when he signed. The deal was only for 3 months, as a sort of trial. That’s why he was happy to pay his own money … he thinks if he plays well he’ll get it back in the renegotiation.

Hope you don’t mind me butting in, but that was the first vinyal record of the bhoys i bought. Did it start with the crowd chanting celtic in a low tone then building to a crechendo before the first song?

It was one of a number that got broken in a house move a long number of years ago. Will attempt to load down the link you posted and if successful will make me one happy bhoy to have that one back.

Some say Jon Daly, some say Diawarra, some say John Sutton, some say Jon Carew but most agree we could do with a big lump up front in January.

There is one guy of that ilk who would bring the house down and I for a wanner would love to see him in the hoops.

He’s old, but he’s good and proven at the highest of high levels. He’s at a good club and I don’t know if we could get him, but Lenny, if you’re lurking, I’d love you to try. Last clue – his whole name, surname and Christian, has only eight letters.

First wan to get it gets to share my wife’s mince and tatties and she makes it with loads of bisto and its dead beefy.
