News doesn’t pay anymore

801

At the start of the week our man in Poland sent me a link to the Croatian outlet who interviewed Nikica Jelavic.  I mentioned the player in an article yesterday and recalled his earlier comments, which I referenced as background information.    This ‘news’ was subsequently carried by today’s radio and print outlets in Scotland.

It’s maybe a low blow to bring out the ‘Lazy journalism’ point on the day Scotland’s formerly-largest newspaper shed journalists, although the point is perfectly illustrated, but lazy journalism always found its place in the past.  The real problem has little to do with the standard of journalism on offer, it’s about business models in the old media.  News doesn’t pay unless you can tax consumers or bundle it with paid-for football channels, which is not a good thing.

Completely agree with all those names, you always learn something from reading them, although I seem to be in a minority of one in not liking simon Barnes. Mike atherton is excellent if you’re into your cricket, there’s actually lots of very good cricket journos in the broadsheets.

The red tops don’t seem to want or be able to set the agenda unless its the national team, when they all go completely mental. It’s like the England manager is theirs and if he doesn’t give them exactly what they want they destroy him, every time there’s talk of a new manager you’ll always hear them talking about the relationship between him and the press as if it’s the most important part of the job.

We’ve done the sopranos, the wire, the west wing and the killing, loved them all. We’ve still got the shield series one to get stuck into after breaking bad.

If you’ve never thought of doing a bit of blogging on tv and film you should, you’ve clearly for a gift for it. You’d get plenty of followers from here for a start

All pubs been closed since Tuesday

Lights came on about 8 so probably back to normal tomorrow if no change – between the power cuts and the ferries being off also most mobiles down it was a real taste of isolation.

During my period of isolation I dreamt that – Elbows had lost his appeal, Whittaker and laugh ferry were long term injured and Jabba was getting the punt – surely not

Cheers for the reminder about breaking bad the other day, I was stuck in the west end of London pulling my hair out trying to remember the name of it. I eventually managed to track down what seems it be one of the lt copies in any shop in the south east of England

His long sets were legendary then, might be the memory but was over 3 and a half hours, I was flecked don’t know how he felt, was the “Born in the USA” tour, Clarence was superb…….

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhh the memories.

In order of prfernces, i’d still have The Soprano’s at number 1, the Wire and No2 and breaking Bad at No 3 (perhaps joint 2).

One you haven’t mentioned is Dexter, a bit more lighter than the others, but thoroughly entertaining.

  17. An alternative view from the dark side:

James Traynor along with Hugh Keevins have been implacable enemies of The Rangers and its fans down the years. So bearing that in mind, it is with great pleasure that I learn that Traynor is at this very moment discussing his redundancy terms with management at the Daily Rebel. Some will try and dress this up as being ‘re-organization’, ‘natural wastage’ or whatever other euphemism they want to use. The truth is that Traynor has been sacked and that this virulent foe of Rangers has been put to the sword (metaphysically speaking) is a moment we should savour.

I would like to think that Mr Whyte is behind this latest coup, aided and abetted by Jack Irvine the master of the dark arts. Coupled with Rangers move to link up with STV to enhance mutual commercial interests, suddenly Timmy has been caught in a deadly pincer movement. This will not go down well with Dermot Desmond as he has had one of his place men removed from a position of real power at the heart of the Rebel with its deep anti-Rangers bias.

I’ll bet right now he is getting his jet ready, his own personal tarrier carrier, to fly over from Dublin to read the riot act to Lawwell.

For far too long we have had to take crap thrown at us by taigloid journalists. Organs like Rangers Media and Followfollow are the future, Traynor and typewriters are the past. We are independent and don’t need to appease a vocal minority, we write the truth. The couldn’t spell the word.

Carnivale, great but the ending a bit weak and left for further series methinks.

It is actually pretty frightening that they believe this. How could we ever reason with them when they think like that. They could teach Goebbals a thing or two about fanatical propoganda.

It certainly picks up, there are a few…..”what the f…” moments, how did I not see that, well worth sticking with it, in fact it could overtake and be my number 1 after the end of series 2, which is superb, looking forward to series 3.

  24. James Forrest,

May I add two suggestions to your excellent list of good TV?

  28. Not much time for tv series, the last one I really got into was Supernatural, great for a few series then kinda got bored with it.

Going to have a look for the boxset of Breaking bad and give it a go.

Have Virgin media ever have it on TV choice?
