No rest period for Emilio will be welcomed

673

I know I’m not the only one with a pavlovian dislike of hearing Celtic players mentioned in international match reports in June.  Preseason training is only four weeks away, quickly followed by the Champions League qualifying round, so these weeks should be for rest and recuperation.  The one exception to the rule, this summer, is Emilio Izaguirre, who is set to play two World Cup qualifiers for Honduras over the next two weeks.

Emilio missed most of last season through injury and then sat out much of the remaining part of the campaign due to the impressive form of Charlie Mulgrew.  He is the one player in the squad who benefit from competitive football to restore his edge, and confidence.

Thomos mIdlife crisis and documented over indulgence in drink consumption is an ill wanted distraction for Celtic .

How could Lenny bring discipline to the squad when other management are doing the opposite.

NONE of the top managers around the world would accept such unprofessionalism from their back room staff!

Can you imagine fergies no2 in the papers for going out for a piss up with balotelli?

    Neither could I .

I’m beginning to think the whole Hun masterplan is to hobble along till the new fixtures are out and at that time they are in a better position to blackmail the other clubs.

When the fixtures come out they will tell everyone that taking sanctions against the newclub will damage the game and cause havoc with fixtures in the other leagues due to promotion issues.

The sooner the headshot is administered the better.

On the Alan Thompson issue. Shame he’s gone but we’ve lost a coach, not the manager or a vital player.

Life goes on and so will Celtic.

  7. I was married at CP the day Thommo and Agathe signed on the 31st August 2000 the day after the 6-2 game. MON TB and Thommo came over to wish us well with a couple of bottles of Dom Pom. When we said this was far too much MON said dont worry, Thommo’s paying you want to see the contract he has just signed. TB just burst out laughing.

I wouldn’t want Green. Good shotstopper but not got the concentration for a big club where he will be called into action occasionally. Rab Douglas with England caps.

  9. This provides an opportunity to add some experience and tactical nous to our coaching team. Everyone of our team are around the same stage in their career and development. An older head with experience, especially in Europe, would be a good addition.

It’s not always good to surround yourself with friends at work and If Neil has done what we think he has for the benefit of the club, good on him.

  11. We dont need to rumour monger

We dont need to speculate, made up stories are just that, they are made up based on guess work and no minimal amount of nastiness, leave that to the record, thats what they do best,

    when it suits.

    Best of Luck Thommo.

  12. Good luck Thommo.

Thanks for skelping huns, helping us become champions again and for stopping that animal getting to Lenny at Swincastle….

    All the best…..

  13. Good morning all,

Have to say i am shocked and very dissapointed with the news Alan Thompson is gone.

Have no idea at all about the reason although lots of talk about off the field behaviour.

Whatever the reason, I am sure Neil Lennon would not have taken the decision lightly and without very good reason.

They did seem such a closely knit group within the management and we have to hope it is not too much of a disruption.

Good luck Thommo, thanks for the memories

Hear hear, the man did a lot for Celtic, let’s do him the courtesy of remembering that and leave the fishwifeing to the gutter press…

Thanks for posting the clips, great way to remember what Thommo did for Celtic. Great left foot, I hope he goes on to be successful in whatever is next for him.

  16. Last night I was told that Alan Thompson had parted company with Celtic,My first thought was that he had been offered a shot at being a manager, good luck to him I thought. I come on here this morning and everyone is going on about him getting sacked,Parting company and getting the sack are entirely two different scenarios.I think I prefer the first one.

Charles Green wants expulsion from the Scottish Cup.

Suspension or termination of membership, he says, would be a disaster for the Scottish game. Expulsion from the cup would be ‘very bad’ for Rangers. Though not nearly as bad as a transfer ban. He will big-up the cup expulsion because that is the desired outcome for the Huns.

The SFA have given the Huns an opportunity to take any decision to CAS with their retort from yesterday. I expect Huns will take any punishment to CAS unless it’s the cup expulsion.

If the panel had first opted to suspend or terminate you can be damned sure rangers would have appealed to CAS, CoS and anyone else.

  19. Doc is Neil Lennon

Thanks Doc; I thought he added so much as a player, goalscoring, tough midfielder and brilliant with free kicks etc.

  20. Tiny Tim is right that people will speculate and it cannot be stopped; there are whole magazines dedicated to making things up about famous people, so I am told. However, you can still indicate that you, personally, don’t approve of information gathering or gossip mongering or character assassination.

What do I gain if I learn that Thommo had a personal problem which led to him being sacked? Well, if I was inclined to take sides and blame either Celtic FC’s side or AT’s side, then it would be evidence towards deciding who was right. But that just begs the question as to why you would be inclined to take sides?

See, I never knew whether Sean Fallon kicked his dug or Neil Mochan wore feminine undergarments or, more pertinently whether Jock had a gambling problem. I was judging them only on the success that they brought Celtic and that they did it without falling foul of police charges.

If they had any peccadilloes that interfered with their job performance, it was enough for me to know that the bosses at Celtic would be monitoring this and not allowing it to be a problem.

If Thommo leaves Celtic with a blackened rep, it hampers his chances of further employment. I would want a popular character and contributor to our successes, to have a good chance of further employment.

He leaves with my best wishes and gratitude. I hope there is a settlement out of court.

I need to do some work now

  21. Vmhan and all.

We have neds who were shown in „Stadiums of Hate” , but like a said few times before – we are not much different to the Englishmen or to Italians. Bad people and good people live everywhere, In every country.

Before I left my house in the morning I watched TV. I watched interview with people who set website for those who are going to visit Poland Turing Euro and for those Poles who would like to help the visitors. The initiative is: don’t let the visitors sleep on the streets, help them feel at home. The Poles are registering on that web site and are ready to take the visitors who have no hotels for night (s).

Of course, you can say that is fine. People can also do hundreds jokes about:w hy the Poles want take the visitors to their homes?

I wish AT well in the future.

Thanks for the many great memories.

  24. Sad to see Hunskelper AT leave in such an inglorious manner but good to see that NL had the strength of character to act even though he was his best friend!

Someone suggested that his replacement could be Stevie Clarke – now there is someone who could really help NL become a more tactical aware football manager!

    Hail! Hail!

  25. Celtic Staement re. Alan T

CELTIC Football Club can confirm that Alan Thompson has left the club. We can also confirm that a meeting was set up between Alan Thompson and Neil Lennon on Sunday (June 3) in Newcastle.

However, Alan refused to meet with Neil, hence the reason for the discussion being conducted by telephone.

The matter is now in the hands of lawyers and, therefore, we are unable to go into any further details.
