No rest period for Emilio will be welcomed

673

I know I’m not the only one with a pavlovian dislike of hearing Celtic players mentioned in international match reports in June.  Preseason training is only four weeks away, quickly followed by the Champions League qualifying round, so these weeks should be for rest and recuperation.  The one exception to the rule, this summer, is Emilio Izaguirre, who is set to play two World Cup qualifiers for Honduras over the next two weeks.

Emilio missed most of last season through injury and then sat out much of the remaining part of the campaign due to the impressive form of Charlie Mulgrew.  He is the one player in the squad who benefit from competitive football to restore his edge, and confidence.

  1. It was reported that Emilio was playing in midfield. Maybe that will happen at Celtic too.

  2. Well done P67 on the broadcast. Is it me or are they–the media–slowly becoming quasi-reasonable? Mind you, if Jabba had been on he wouldn’t have let anyone else get a word in.

    Honduras U20’s beat El Salvador U20’s 3-0 in El Salvador. Next full international against Panama on the 8th June. World Cup qualifier for Brazil I think.

    ‘Where did you hear that from?

    I had brought this up with St.John Doyle who said this was being “reviewed”.

    So Scottish Labour have sold out to the OO after all.’

    I recall that St John Doyle said the policy on marches was due to be reviewed anyway and that no one was promised anything.

    It looked to me that Matieson had duped the OO.

    The nats obviously are very sore at not having taken Glasgow and are intent on mudslinging.

  8. Good article Paul, The only worry I have about Emilio being back to his best is Charlie’s amazing left foot being missed further up the field.

    From earlier.

    Fullerton’s gang was based on religion not demographics. Over many years I’ve known people who were involved in gangs around that area.

    None of them or their ancestors were members of his gang despite being from the area.

  14. Well done Izzy! Wonderful player and I am in complete agreement with Paul67 here. Since I reside in Vancouver, Canada there is little media attention on the fiasco that is rangers (ia). Thank you for being here CQN!!

    As an aside, as a supporter of the Vancouver Whitecaps (local MLS team) I am looking forward to our newest member, Barry Robson, arriving at the end of June!

    They keep showing the making of “Dark side of the moon” on Sky Arts, about once a week.

  17. C.M. & E.I. playing in tandem….doin’ the ole switcheroo,tippy tappy….most teams anywhere on the planet would give much to have that…a double act on the left.

  18. Sixteen roads to Golgotha on

    I think that Lenny is tinkering with the idea of playing three central defenders and two wing backs,similar to the O’Neill teams.

    Example:

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FF ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 67 ::::::::::: Rogne ::::::::::: Chuck :::::::::::::::::::::::

    :::::::: Matthews :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Emilio ::::::::::::::

    Aye,there’s a mad statistic I read that states that the album is played every 15 seconds on the planet. Statistics,eh?

    It still stands as a great work after all these years. I saw them on the eponymous tour. Magic.

    :-)

  20. On the subject of music, I saw the Tribute to Gerry Rafferty concert a few weeks ago – Rab Noakes, Barbara Dickson,Jack Bruce, Proclaimers, the Rafferty clan plus others.

    I only knew the obvious ones – Baker Street etc. I was amazed that he had written so many beautiful songs that weren’t very well known.

    As far as I can remember being told, the billy boys was the gang’s marching song (including the up to our knees lines) and they went to iPox in large numbers, singing it there, and it got taken up by the ranks of the Hun support.

    I knew an old neighbour who was from sacred heart parish in bridgeton in the 30s and he said they were a horrible crowd and they would attack people who lived in bridgeton who were identifiable as RCs by where they frequented in the area,

  22. Journo Alan Nixon (@reluctantnicko) suggesting on twitter a sacking or a departure imminent at Celtic – not a player, not Neil Lennon. Anyone heard anything?

  23. Sixteen roads to Golgotha on

    Also,I believe that Dermot Desmond has gave Lenny the go-ahead to embark on a spending spree as the club prepares for the CL Qualifiers.

    Lenny deserves the funds having worked miracles with the tightest of budgets.Let’s face it,he has spent the square root of nothing,any players that he did buy were purchased with the money generated by the Boruc and McGeady transfers.

    I think that the club is going to kick on now,not just on the domestic front,but also on the European stage.

  24. Miki67

    Saw them at the Docklands Arena on the Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour, not at their best and would of liked to have seen them earlier but still outstanding. Must of been about 1990-91.

  25. garygillespieshamstring on

    Thought our best partnership in defence last season was rogne and mulgrew. Weakest was pretty much anything involving kelvin Wilson.

    Given Thomas’ injury record, I feel a big dominant centre half should be top of any shopping list.
