No rest period for Emilio will be welcomed

673

I know I’m not the only one with a pavlovian dislike of hearing Celtic players mentioned in international match reports in June.  Preseason training is only four weeks away, quickly followed by the Champions League qualifying round, so these weeks should be for rest and recuperation.  The one exception to the rule, this summer, is Emilio Izaguirre, who is set to play two World Cup qualifiers for Honduras over the next two weeks.

Emilio missed most of last season through injury and then sat out much of the remaining part of the campaign due to the impressive form of Charlie Mulgrew.  He is the one player in the squad who benefit from competitive football to restore his edge, and confidence.

  1. So what would be an appropriate punishment for a club which intentionally witheld tax payments, NI payments, payments due to other clubs etc.., and used those illegal sources of revenue to artificially elevate their position in the SPL last season?

That is what we are talking about here. Bundling them together into a single ‘bringing the game into disrepute’ charge is misleading for there are many ways to bring the game into disrepute; some very much more serious than others.

Just as I would not expect someone who had robbed a bank to receive the same punishment as someone who nicked a sweetie from the local supermarket.

The gravity of the punishment must correspond to the gravity of the offence.

If RFCia had not used such tactics to fulfill their fixtures last season, they would have been automatically relegated. Thus, the only appropriate punishment must equate to that event, that is, a suspension from the SFA & SPL for at least 1 entire season (and loss of prizemoney).

This will also allow another club to take their place and thus not penalise other clubs for loss of revenue from those missing fixtures.

The issue of whether RFCia should be automatically permitted into the SPL the following season can be deferred until it is clearer whether there is an RFC(ia) in existence next season.

Making a clear decision now allows the other clubs & authorities to make arrangements for next season.

    Show leadership, act swiftly.

  2. Dont know why Alan Thompson parting company is such big news on-Sky Sports .

Maybe a certain J White is pulling the strings behind the scenes .

SSN dont cover the latest Green statement or the SFA response.

    Season ticket renewed.

Moved from main stand on halfway line to 111.

I spent a LOT of last season watching with envy, and being entertained by the GB.

So I have moved to where the party is.

And can’t wait for the season to start!

    LENNY.

    ………….

Come and say hello to me when you’re in 111, I’m JJ 33….. Best place in the stadium.

  4. For the past few hours the AT “sacking?” is non-stop rolling news on SSN.

Cant imagine a coach staff member leaving any other team getting this level of coverage. Could be its because we’re the biggest and most important team in UK.

  5. As bamboo has hinted at mr white of the jim has to much say now at sky and it will be there downfall he is a twat of the highest order with little or no brain cells

Good luck to Thommo for the future and thanks for the memories, but I don’t think it’s that big a deal.

Hope Lenny gets someone in with a wee bit more experience to help him.

The Mail article makes clear the hurdles the Huns have to clear just to put a team on the pitch. Can’t see it happening for the coming season.

  7. Good Morning and a very happy Cataclysmos to you all.

No,it’s not the latest Ridley Scott movie or the story of the imminent demise of the huns.

It’s the Orthodox version of Pentecost with a wee bit of remembering Noah and The Flood and a dash of pagan ceremony around Aphrodite thrown in.

Public holiday here in jubilee free Cyprus.

    Have a good one!

  8. Vmhan, thanks.

Not only Irish. Englishmen, Russians, Germans, all will be fine.

I posted link to the article from Irish newspaper earlier.

  9. I am looking forward to my trip to Poland for the Spain game the bbc should take it cameras to Glasgow for a orange walk then they would have a story butit wouldn’t sit well with that lot

Alex salmond are you listening the best we bigoted country in the world

  10. Zbyszek yes I read that, excellent stuff, honest open and balanced reporting, the BBC have certainly lowered their standards with that sensationalist nonsense.

Looking forward to a great football tourney, I’m supporting the Green and White oh and the red and whites :>)

  11. Good morning friends from a beautifully sunny and bright East Kilbride. It’s good to be back.

  12. That’s a shot across the bows for all at Celtic to take on board .

Lenny want to be the best

    He wants professionalism

    He wants 100% commitment

    He wants focus

    No distractions

Thomo unfortunately was a liability that Lenny could I’ll afford to allow to fester … Mate or not !

Because at the end of the day he is the boss

HE stands or falls with his decisions

Yesterday he probably made THE BIGGEST DECISION in his career EVER!

This is why Neil Francis Lennon has the potential to manage Celtic for very long time .

He will find himself spoken alongside greats such as stein, O’neill etc THAT I HAVE NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER

    However,is that something you know?

  14. Good Luck Alan wherever you go or whatever you do and thank you for all you have done for Celtic, you will be remembered fondly and as a hunskelper.

Thanks for passing on your knowledge to Charlie Mulgrew!!

    Hail Hail Alan Thompson…

All the best to Alan Thomson, whatever the future may hold for him.

Hunskelper of the highest order, and a player who really “got” the club and everything we stand for.

I kave no idea why he has been sacked-and I can’t say I’m pleased with the news-and I simply want to wish him well in the future.

”He skelped the huns” – that is all

Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

  17. Something must have happened. If AT has a drink problem (as evidence seems to suggest), that is already known to NL.

What new event happened to force him to make that phone-call?

  18. Medtim.

Where are yoi in cyprus? I’m off there on holiday 4 weeks today….paphos

  19. I wouldn’t be surprised to read that Alan has left the club under his own steam he knows why and a lot of us thought it would have came before now but he was and always will be a HUNSKELPER Hail Hail tommo and all the best

I read your post and thought ,bang on.

    Then i thought .

Wait a minute the internet is just a different way of discussing what we would discuss in the pub or workplace, and that is what Mea culpa is doing.

Should we press gang him into silence?

    Then i thought.

No we should debate and discuss it.

Good luck to Alan Thompson ; it’s a real shame it’s ended like this.

It’s manna from Heaven for the embattled Lodge Hunguffer, but I expect only a temporary relief.

  22. All the best to Thommo and thanks for some wonderful memories. I’ve no idea why he’s been sacked but I hope things work out for him.

I am in Polis (about 45 mins drive from Paphos)

If you would like some hints and tips about Cyprus (assuming you are a first timer here) stick on a post and I will help as much as I can.

I am about to head off to the beach now but will be back on later today (around 4pm UK time)

Tiny Tim- with respect I’m all for informed debate on any subject under the sun; with this particular topic all we are going to get is ill-informed speculation, rumour and guesswork.

Whatever the reasons he’s left the Club hoopslegend Alan Thompson deserves better.

This is neither a pub nor a workplace nor a steamie.

  27. no matter why AT left it is not a top news story.

Cant believe the Daily Record has put it on the front page. Probably be desparate for an anti celtic story.

Thanks for the memories. AT Especially the goal against Barcelona. what a night that was

  28. i dont think it was lenny who sacked alan thomson, anyway time will tell why he got sacked.what should happen now is that celtic should make a statement about one of there staff being sacked.and if lenny has the power to sack anyone employed at celtic ,well that is a dangerous road to go down.

  29. A very difficult decision for Neil Lennon to take.

An even more difficult phone call to make.

Alan Thomson was hand picked by Lenny and has been by his side in some very trying moments.

He has been an intimate friend of Lenny’s.

I still have question marks over Lenny’s ability to spot a player.

I have no question marks over his qualities as a very good man and a very decent human being.

Lenny has not parted company with his good friend Thommo ,without it ripping at his heart and conscience.

    I wish Thommo well.

We can only speculate what the problem was ,but that there was a problem is not in doubt.

Good luck to both men in finding a solution to that problem.

Again i can only speculate ,but it would appear to me that Lenny has shown great professionalism in dealing with this matter.

  30. Sad to hear about Thommo. All the best in the future, look after yourself. 6 goals against the Huns all crackers, 3 red cards , 2 of them spiteful.

May the road rise to meet you.

  31. Sadden by the news AT has left the club.

Was thinking about the timing of it and makes me think this may have been on the cards for while now.

Some great memories, all the best Thommo! HH
