Odsonne the target on day football holds its breath

1146

Celtic’s objective for today is to add a striker, who is happy to take his chances at Celtic behind Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele. The target (as you will know) is 19-year-old France youth international Odsonne Edouard.

We have agreed a loan with Celtic having the option to buy for an eight-figure sum. There remains a complication between player and current club, Paris Saint-Germain, which all parties are hoping will resolve, but this one has the potential to go to the wire.

Odsonne is regarded by manager, scouts and coaches at Celtic as an absolute star. He made four starts for Toulouse in Ligue 1 last season before off-field matters got in the way (which I’ll not trivialise, but we’ll deal with at a later date). He is a player who needs to leave Paris for new influences in a fresh environment. The move to Celtic could be the break he needs.

The initial loan period gives the player a chance to resolve any legacy issues before Celtic commit to breaking transfer records.

The manager has been impressed by Odsonne’s attitude thus far. He knows he would be the junior party in a three-man attacking roster, and that his objectives for the season is to press those above him.

In the coming weeks, our fit 19-year-old central defender will be joined by three more-senior team-mates. Competing with Kristoffer Ajer for fourth spot is only likely to be attractive to another teenage prodigy. I don’t expect movement on this front.

At this stage of the window, the chances of anyone near the first team being allowed to leave are reducing, but there are a lot of worried teams with >£100m of TV money out there. Enough to fund transfer fees and provide wages to unsettle the most faithful of stalwarts.

There will be calls made, you can be sure of that. I know some people at Celtic Park who will be happy people after 23:00 tonight, when the window in England closes, without any of our players being unsettled.

Enjoy your day, let’s hope Odsonne’s details are sorted and no one waves £50k per week-type money before our players.

You just dont get this, do you. I wont pay to watch rigged football, masonic referees and football officials, how clear can i possibly be. You on the other hand, are quite happy to prolong that corruption and cheating, by paying to see it. I stand on a principle, what do you stand on?

  2. There seems to be a wee gold mine underneath the very richest clubs.

They sign all the best players possible, then can only play 11 of them.

How are we able to sign the golden boy of the Euro under 17s?

Because PSG, and Man City don’t need money.

They almost need rid of it.

Peter Lawwell, like a bond villain, cultivating relationships.

  3. So Coetzee is off the ‘get better soon and we’ll come back and get you” list.

Can I demand a transfer to the mineshafters please ?

    Good.

    We need a bloody centre half…..NOW !!!!!!!!!

  4. Are we allowed to aplly the ‘hun’ label to any personal opinion or experience?

    My mate doesn’t rate mushrooms,thinks the texture’s disusting.He must be a hun.

And as for my cousin who has a strong dislike of hip-hop AND package holidays…uber hun.

    ;))

  5. I was pessimistic this morning but now I see that all that has to be done is:

    empty the stadium

    Board resigns

    BR resigns

Moussa, Scotty, Jozo and KT head to England

New Board bans scooby dooby pyjamas and buys buses with no seats at the back

We welcome part-time football and glamour pre-season friendlies against Cliftonville

What age are you? I don’t think with you its a failure to understand the complexities of a transfer. I listed a few and you just want to moan about no defender signing. Or no Paddy signing. Except Paddy did sign in the end.

All too easy to throw a tantrum anonymously on someone elses blog.

Problem with you is jumping the gun, and shouting very loudly whilst refusing to acknowledge the fine print.

Celtic are improving and have a pretty decent team on the park. The bar has been raised. Enjoy it before its gone.

    Transfer day flashback 2015

Celtic embark on 5 in a row mission and Europa League group stages with one striker, the talismanic Leigh Griffiths.

In November club panics and brings in Carlton Cole after a month trial who is unfit and way of the pace but cheap.

In January club again panics and brings in Colin Kazim Richards who scores one goal (but what a goal) against the mighty East Kilbride.

The above for me guarantees legendary status for Leigh Griffiths who banged in 40 goals and miraculously managed to carry us and stay fit.

I still thank my lucky stars and if I was on the Celtic Board I wouldn’t mind kneeling to him and praising him every day he reports to work.

    Two sides to that coin.

    Simple question.

I will say the same to you as I asked a previous poster.

What have I said that you disagree with?

If you want to see Celtic succeed then you, like me, should see where we are obviously weak

  11. It’s all very well saying that a CB would be competing with Ajer for 4th choice but Celtic need to be signing a CB that is first choice and better than those currently at the club. I have serious reservations that any of the three senior players from Jozo, Boyata and Erik are good enough for CL level and the centre of defence needs bolstering. I thought that last season even before the injuries.

    Scullybhoy, I’m

Far from miserable. Ask the manager if he thought we needed a centre half or if a centre half was available to improve the team would he sign one?

Some people are happy just turning up eating their pie and watching the other side rather than thinking they could beat them I suppose

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Hi lad,

I really don’t think BR will let anyone mess him about – he calls the shots and is a very astute person. BR is both realistic and pragmatic – I genuinely believe that he trusts that the Board are doing all they can – maybe I’m just naive and hopefully he’s not.

  16. Declan John signs on loan for Sevco, does that mean their ‘captain’ will be sold to keep the lights on?

  17. Hugh Bonkle fae Dallas on

    Paul 67 managing expectations again?

Anybody who thinks we don’t need cover at centre half probably thinks the rangers are still the same club. We have one centre half who can’t play 3 games in a week and who was seriously considering a move to Burnley ffs!!!, another who appears injury prone and one who has been out since the start of the playoffs. It’s all very well saying we have 3 experienced centre halfs to come back, at the moment we have none and none who appear capable of 30+ games per season.

  18. Barrybhoy

I think Jozo is class, champions league class.

But what do you mean by CL level?

We are going to be embarrassed in a couple of games this year, and there is nothing anyone can do about that.

So looking at two wins at home would be fantastic.

    I don’t consider myself a happy clapper or a mine shafter…

I think a balanced assessment of this window should be we have done well to hold on (not actively flog) the invincibles. Getting PR7 is a coup. The young striker imo is a red herring as he will be back up at best.

Failure to get in a CH is a disappointment and should have been the top objective even (dare I say it?) Before PR7.

But taking it all in the round are we stronger than last season? My sense is that we are marginally so by virtue of the fact we have added Ntcham Hayes and Roberts but that existing players have improved. The management team are fully embedded. There is a momentum of success building.

The disappointing thing is we still carry the same CH vulnerability.

Will this critically affect European success? The truth is probably not. We are 4 th seeds and likely at best to finish 3rd with or without a new CH. That’s the truth of where we stand in European football.

It will make no difference in domestic competition.

So my assessment is performing well but could do better.

No need panic..no real cause for super optimism either. We are progressing nicely.

We are on our way to being the European club of Glasgow. That’s the important thing for me.
