Opportunity to claim a great Celtic reputation

632

Within a few hours the first leg of our Summer Cup Final will be upon us.  Make no mistake about it, these are the biggest games of our season.

The players and manager have learned plenty about European football over the last four weeks to know the scale of the task.  Maribor will be given due respect but the importance of Saturday’s win over Dundee United cannot be overestimated.  Players’ confidence will have received a welcome boost, while some will have realised the weight of responsibility lies with them.

Since the draw I have written enough about the strengths of Maribor, but they are weak at the back – and they are showing all the signs of over-confidence.  Having watched us against Legia, this lot will be shocked if a different Celtic turn up tonight.  Their fans, media and officials are emotionally spending their Champions League windfall already.

Most of all, we need a disciplined performance from Celtic.  No conceding penalties, getting caught in possession deep in your own half, or second yellows.  Stick to the basics, stay alert and we have an excellent chance of progressing; this is not a team with irresistible talent.

For a few players, they have the chance to claim a great reputation at the club.  What an opportunity…..

  1. jamesgang & RWE,

With hindsight any mention of knee in any form was a poor choice of word given Craig,s past ( hopefully ) problems.

I still think that he is a huge gamble that we all saw coming. But who knows it may be a masterstroke. I guess time will tell.

I also guess that presumably we have a feasible plan B which is only common sense.

    HH. to you both.

PS : The nerves are starting to kick in, a visit to the fridge is called for :-)

    Haha belter.

You may be able to help with a question I was going to ask actually -not in my usual seat for the Maribor game next week so am wondering about access to the ground, think my ticket is behind the goal in the Lisbon Lions stand, if I were to approach the stadium via the Gallowgate can I walk down the length of the North Stand toward the Lisbon Lions or do they block it off halfway? I know they used to do that…

Just don’t want to have to get to the stadium then go out the long way past the Forge…

Or maybe I can use my ticket to get in at the Jock Stein stand and just wander all the way round…

This is all to save valuable drinking time next week.

    I swear I don’t have a problem!

An SI joint adjustment is a standard for Osteos and Chiros. It may even be that your back issue is a reflection of a pre-existing SI problem, or indeed, a hip issue caused by unequal leg lengths. It’s all pretty interconnected, one issue causing a knock on upwards or downwards. In that regard, your body inadvertently changes your posture to compensate one weakness, often precipitating another issue in turn.

Which is why surgery really only works if the root cause is the ruptured disk.

Losing weight and strengthening your stomach muscles might very well improve posture sufficiently to sort the issue for some folk.

No right answers though. Just a range of less invasive alternatives.

    Hope all goes well.

I’m not one for entering into the referendum debate, however,

    ………………………………

Not convinced that you are genuine because of this opening sentence and how you then appear to quote from a PR release from the Yes campaign. But as you put, however…

Scotland has had it’s own government since 1999 (know as the Scottish Executive then) and thus the Scottish people have been able to vote for which ever parcel of rogues it wanted. So can we stop all this nonsense about the Scottish people deciding instead of the English.

On which issue…How many Scotlands are there?

Do they all speak with the same voice on possible independence?

How about these four to start with, all with clearly defined boundaries and different challenges.

    The Central belt Scotland.

    The Borders Scotland

    The Highlands Scotland

    The Islands Scotland

Will they all vote the same way with a clear majority for a YES or NO?

If a distinct part of Scotland didn’t approve of the vote (for example a YES vote is apparently not that popular in the Borders) would the Borders be entitled to apply for a special status place within the old UK and not part of Independent Scotland?

Could they otherwise allege that they were not allowed to decide for themselves where their government was based, to whom they owed their allegiance and in addition lose what benefits they perceived they gained by remaining within the UK?

Laughingly, Eck’s soundbite at the Debate with Captain Darling was along the lines of confidence in Independence is better than fear of it. Since then, we have been subjected to one scare tactic after another to induce fear in remaining as part of the UK.

  8. mullet and co 2,

Guidetti will be on £40-50,000 per week at City. They would need to pay at least half for us to take him on loan. The boy Chaloba at Chelsea, has never played a 1st team game, and last season was on £36,000 per week.

We should just ignore this stupid market.Only deal when they are buying.

Plenty bargains out there. The Legia striker will be lucky if he is on £10,000 per week.Very lucky.

I have no idea why we find it so hard to buy a striker.By that I mean one who actually scores goals.

  21. I actually think we have a chance tonight of a good result.

Maribor are — CL wise — workmanlike, efficient, competent, they are not good.

If they were up against LW — who would be favourites.

If we were up against LW — who would be favourites?

We did not lose in Warsaw / Edinburgh — the team lost the game in their own heads.

To much new stuff on wobbly legs and a bad set of circumstances.

My thoughts are the CWG cost us dear — the dislocation and the postponement.

We need to have competitive games before the 3rd CL qualifying round.

Meaningful games with the full squad against teams with something to lose.

That could be their win bonus, their credibility or bragging rights.

Would we have been any worse if we had played TH with the full squad at full pelt?

We are better than Maribor but we are a squad in transition.

Consequently my money is on a score draw tonight.

KO is 2.45 am on a work night so I hopefully will wake up to good news.

If they so wish The Shetlands & Orkneys I imagine do have a right to self determination and if they so wished could hold a referendum.

I guess the reason you ask is due to oil and your going to throw it into the mix.

However if they so decided their coastal waters would stretch only 12 miles from their coast in all directions so that argument is moot. Go check. It’d have no material effect on Scotland’s oil in an independent Scotland or for that matter Westminsters current theft the existing corrupt UK setup.

  26. Aparantly the WINNERS of the europa league will go straight into next seasons champions league!…..seems like UEFA are just making things up as they go along….for me if celtic WON the europa league i would rather see them defend it…..i know its unlikely but thats what i would prefer……winning the europa league is a viable long shot for us…winning the champions league is almost completely impossible on any level.

Yes flaws. Food banks exist in every developed country in the world including Norway. Unfortunately they would exist in an independent Scotland too.

I’m not saying nothing should be done to prevent reliance on food banks. I disagree with Tory policies which have been too hard and too severe with benefit cuts and I’m disappointed the SNP haven’t done more in Scotland to help people struggling on very low incomes.

I can’t speak for Ernie but I won’t be taking a boat to Northern Ireland in the event of a Yes vote. I will stay here provided I and my partner remain in employment and see how an iScotland pans out. I dare say we may even be glad of it in 30 years or so if we are lucky enough to grow old.

In the more likely event of a No vote will you stay here or seek pastures new? Maybe you could hop on a boat to Norway, though at £10 a pint I’d rather you than me! ;-)

    Hail hail.

  28. FF is still a work in progress, and is not the finished article. Craig Gordon, on the other hand, is. When last fit and playing he was among the top six goalies in the UK. People (well, some) will laugh when I say that I would have had him in front of Boruc, who believed his own publicity in a very short time. Boruc was and is a great goalie, but nowhere near as focused as Gordon. If Stevie Woods and the physios rate him fit then that’s good enough for me. All I know is that I feel safer with him in goals bawling at the back four.

  29. lazydynamite

Impossible. Even if we win the EL we will win the SPFL Premiership and qualify for the CL via about 6 qualifying games!
