Opportunity to claim a great Celtic reputation

632

Within a few hours the first leg of our Summer Cup Final will be upon us.  Make no mistake about it, these are the biggest games of our season.

The players and manager have learned plenty about European football over the last four weeks to know the scale of the task.  Maribor will be given due respect but the importance of Saturday’s win over Dundee United cannot be overestimated.  Players’ confidence will have received a welcome boost, while some will have realised the weight of responsibility lies with them.

Since the draw I have written enough about the strengths of Maribor, but they are weak at the back – and they are showing all the signs of over-confidence.  Having watched us against Legia, this lot will be shocked if a different Celtic turn up tonight.  Their fans, media and officials are emotionally spending their Champions League windfall already.

Most of all, we need a disciplined performance from Celtic.  No conceding penalties, getting caught in possession deep in your own half, or second yellows.  Stick to the basics, stay alert and we have an excellent chance of progressing; this is not a team with irresistible talent.

For a few players, they have the chance to claim a great reputation at the club.  What an opportunity…..

Celtic’s other new boy Tonev left Glasgow to escort his mother back to Bulgaria and is nursing an injury which will rule him out for a week or so.

    Poor joke from me.

No mention of him since he signed. Any idea when we are likely to see him?

  5. Anyone that offers me a score line that involved tonight’s home team having ‘zero’ at full time…..I’d take the hand off you.

As for game stress my family thought I was going to have a seizure watching the Barca win.

Once hooked myself up to a heart rate monitor during the road to Seville. Scary rates!

The last time we nearly won the europa league 2003 im pretty sure we never won the SPL?…likewise the mankymob 5 years or so later…..of course we did ‘nearly win’ the thing against one of the best teams in europe rather than just embarras ourselves against an average team!

  10. Come on the Hoops.

Legia’s f**k up has given us a chance to redeem ourselves after a pathetic performance at Murrayfield.

Let’s just do it and get it right up the Masonic mainstream media muppets!

  11. I’ll be watching the game with one eye closed tonight! Not through choice mind. Double cyst under one eyelid leaves me no option as I can’t open the fecker. A wee lancing on Tuesday if they don’t burst themselves over weekend.

In an Independent Scotland Eyelid duct blockages and cysts would be banned and become a thing of the past. :-)

Yes correct. I was lucky enough to be at the stadium in Seville and Kilmarnock.

I won the fitba card that night in the pub and bought a bottle of Champers on the table of the gloating mob and departed for the night and went into a depression I only came out of when the new season started.

Not sure what us not winning the league has to do with the point about winning the EL this season though. We will romp this title.

Lots of optimism on here ,but it,s the same manager who got it so wrong in Warsaw, and the board have not got off their arses and bought any players,

much more optimistic about seeing Salmond the fat bigoted granny shagger lposing big time

    next month

    JUST VOTE NO

what sort of independent country does he want to give us keeping the royal scroungers because he,s a orange bigot ,keeping the pound (no chance of that),which would leave us at the mercy of FOREIGN country economically the guys a twat

Id say its an attempt by Uefa to get teams to take the Europa League seriously instaed of resting players for the league

this is the problem in England

Sounds like a good idea in that respect

  19. As long as my celtic team fight tooth and nail and they don’t sell the jersey i will not be too hard on them even if another big defeat is on the cards…Of course i hope for so much better than that…..it is important for the celtic manager to prove he is a quick learner…perfect platform to judge his progress with this team

I came back from Seville in time for the kilmarnock game, endured one of the worst bus trips home . Our driver then took a wrong turn and landed us outside a hun pub. Youd have thought theyd be busy celebrating but instead all they were interested in was throwing tumblers, cans and indulging in their usual vile, bigoted pish. There really isnt anyone else like them

I don;t see that happening but the national cup competitions is a serious option. It has been mentioned before by Platini that the national cup competitions had been diminished. That would probably not change much for us. We would still have the one entry but for the larger leagues with 2, 3 or 4 entrants it would mark a huge change in the value of those tournaments.
