Opportunity to claim a great Celtic reputation

632

Within a few hours the first leg of our Summer Cup Final will be upon us.  Make no mistake about it, these are the biggest games of our season.

The players and manager have learned plenty about European football over the last four weeks to know the scale of the task.  Maribor will be given due respect but the importance of Saturday’s win over Dundee United cannot be overestimated.  Players’ confidence will have received a welcome boost, while some will have realised the weight of responsibility lies with them.

Since the draw I have written enough about the strengths of Maribor, but they are weak at the back – and they are showing all the signs of over-confidence.  Having watched us against Legia, this lot will be shocked if a different Celtic turn up tonight.  Their fans, media and officials are emotionally spending their Champions League windfall already.

Most of all, we need a disciplined performance from Celtic.  No conceding penalties, getting caught in possession deep in your own half, or second yellows.  Stick to the basics, stay alert and we have an excellent chance of progressing; this is not a team with irresistible talent.

For a few players, they have the chance to claim a great reputation at the club.  What an opportunity…..

    Off Topic A wee bit.

Been told I need surgery to remove Herniated Disc(L 4)

Doc gave me couple month to think about it.

Question is has any of our CQNers had it done or know of anyone who’s been thru it,

and more importantly did it work???

    H.H.

    —————————————————–

I had a slightly more complicated op carried out 5 years ago with the removal of the disc at L5 and my lower spine fused L5 to S1 with cages and screws. Apart from having most of my left foot go numb since the op I would say that if you are in that much pain go for it. I would, however, paid someone to amputate my left leg at the time because of the pain prior to the op.

I hear what your saying but every one is diff. I got all the warnings from the expert when I was being assessed for my hip replacement and it kinda does put you of with all the stuff that can go wrong, but I got so far that I was in agony and said feckin do me, and they did, and I haven’t looked back since, my other hip is now going the same way, they did tell me that I would eventually need the other one done, but I won’t go through the pain I went with the last one, a couple of my mates have had it some so so, others brand new, it’s just yer luck mate, but if yer in pain man feck it, tell him to go ahead, best a luck mate.

  5. Will miss the match tonight as I will be in Yosemite, which means coming back and reading the updates as “live”….whilst explaining to Mrs Yorkbhoy that I can’t ” just look at the result”

Years ago I ended up in hospital one night. They were reluctant to treat me as I’d had a few beers but my mates had insisted I attend A&E because of the obvious pain that I was in as a result of a headache.

I assured the doctor that the pain had been there prior to the intake of any alcohol and so he tried to trace it back to when the first signs were evident.

We’d played the Huns at Ibrox that day and it had begun on the bus back from the game.

    Stress headache was the diagnosis

Difficult decision, and one in which the right answer is different for each person making it.

It’s a common observation that surgeons seem only ever to prescribe surgery. Equally, if you sought out the opinion of a Chiropractor, guess what.. they’d recommend a programme of adjustments. The Physiotherapist will recommend their thing, and Birds Eye will insist a bag of frozen peas used judiciously is the very dab.

I don’t have the data to hand, but like you, very many people have lower back pain caused by herniated and/or dehydrated disks and general age related degeneration. It’s what happens to us humans. Most folk though don’t have surgery for it because for many the back settles into its new shape in due course, the muscles relax and the pain goes.

I was recommended to have surgery 20 years ago to stabilise the spine at L4/5 and L5/S1. My condition was chronic and longstanding and caused issues at the SI joint and referred pain southwards.

Albeit that this was a considerably more extensive Op than you’re being recommended, equally, the damage to my back was more extensive than what you have described.

I decided to look elsewhere before making a decision.

That proved to be a pretty good thing to do. I tried Chiropractic over a period of 8 weeks, combined with some basic stuff like walking more and doing some core strength exercises.

It wasn’t a magic wand at the time, but in a shorter period than the recovery from the operation, I was pain free and drug free too for the first time in 10 years.

Over the next couple of years I went back now and again for a wee adjustment, but I haven’t been back for one since 2005 I think.

The back remains stable, there is no pain, no mobility issues, all pretty normal actually despite a pretty severe prognosis from the surgeons at the time.

I’m not knocking surgeons here, quite the contrary, but you would do well to consider them as a last resort. Start with the peas and the walking, move onto Osteo/Chiropractic, give physio a go. If nothing works, then go back to the surgeons.

    Hope that’s helpful.

I actually can relate to your post.

Why would you not want democracy near you?

One of the main reasons to change is the impotence of our current democratic institutions to solve our social economic and political differences.bringing it closer to its electorate.

We are all just ordinary people; I genuinely detect that in your post.i want to question trident.i want to question those locked in the political chaos of permanent tory and labour.

Cost of government- house of lords!! and dont forget all parties EXPENSES that showed how undemocratic that snout in trough westminster was.

I am not a Nat.I have been given the opportunity to vote on whether Scotland can socially,,economically and politically seek its own path.

It is interesting now the full repertoire of ‘state’ propoganda must be believed at the moment for the sake of the union while deep deep down there is a problem and labour or tory wont change.they just want power.i want to end that democratic disconnect and I urge you to do the same

    Drambowiecelt,

I will add that TBB’s advice may be the way to go. I was admitted to hospital with the pain and whilst there all forms of pain relief stopped working after 3-4 days. The decision was taken out of my hands.

  20. My friends in Celtic,

One thing seems certain in regards to the team line up. Craig Gordon will be in goal; some are even advocating him as captain.

What a gamble. Craig played his first competitive game for us in July. His first competitive match for two years.

This is not a knee jerk reaction from myself, I stated this when he was first linked with us.

My view has not changed, I sincerely hope and pray that he plays out of his skin tonight and blossoms during his Celtic career.

Nevertheless what a gamble and we all saw it coming.

Surely the cappo’s armband wouldn’t cause him to tweak his shoulder?!!?

That said I wouldn’t ask wee Jamesie or Derk to try picking it up for fear of the consequences!

With absolutely no disrespect to Fraser Forster who played in both Legia games…

Craig Gordon may turn out to be the most important change in Celtic’s starting line-up for tonight’s game.

He has impressed many already, and not just through his goalkeeping skills, but also by his vocal work with those who play in front of him.

He also impressed me because in interviews, he refuses to pretend that he is a badge kisser, but still shows huge respect to the club and the fans.

Legned in the making? Who knows.. but he has impressed so far.

In fact…there used to be a place in Shepherds Bush that showed Celtic games.

O’Donnaghue’s or something like that? I only know it through word of mouth so not sure.

  24. Trad88

Funny you should mention that :-)

Even better was a game at Ibrox, only about 6 years ago, where I offered to drive our bus because I had the engagement party of a work colleague to attend that night and I wanted to turn up looking sensible and respectable because the entire staff would be there including all of the senior management team.

Everything went according to plan; I drove the bus; took them all to a bus members house in Govan to let the traffic diminish; drove them back to Bar67 safely; dropped the bus off; picked up my car and headed back to Hamilton for a shave, shower and change of clothes.

As a result of being soooooo organised I was ready earlier than anticipated and found myself with ample time on my hands…….and there is where it all went awry!!!!

I got a lift into town and decided to have a few beers in Bar67 before heading up to the party in Maryhill.

Fifteen Buds and 4 vodkas in the space of 3 hours does not make for a ‘sensible and respectable’ guest at a work colleagues engagement party :-)

More than an able replacement for FF and possibly has the best years of his career ahead of him.

It was me who championed him as captain. Just looking at who is in the squad for tonight he appears to be our most experienced player.

I have also been impressed by his communication. It may be the best business the club has done for a very long time. Any player can be injured but he comes with a reputation but so did John Hartson and that worked out OK.

Forster is a big loss but we move on. If Gordon is as good as he was previously but with experience he is argubaly just as good if not better than Forster was and the money we got for our keeper can be spent where it matters most to Celtic fans and that is in the forward areas. I want us to score barrow loads of goals.

Experience at the back is vital and I would hope we have our eye on a season campaigner for the CB area to help our youngsters. It’s going to be a long season and I hope we are going for all 3 domestic prizes. An old head at the back could be a very good piece of business. We will need a varied and deep squad for the campaign ahead.

    5. To grow and develop as a club Celtic need to get out of Scotland. I suspect the price for this (if it ever happens – and I believe it eventually will) is that we will be accompanied by them. What a moral dilemma that will bring ….. our freedom could be their salvation. We can turn up our noses in indignation but if that is the only way for our club to move forward and thrive on a bigger stage then I believe it is a price worth paying. I don’t care about them and never have. The health and longevity of Celtic is all I care about. But we are kidding ourselves if we believe that Celtic on our own will be allowed to prosper in another league without them in some shape or form.

Nice post but I’m not sure I agree with above point. If scotland was afforded 1 place in an Atlantic league set up for example, CFC would be chosen. In scotland we need competition, and for 25 years (except last 3) they are the only ones who have provided it, but abroad is a whole different kettle of fish (on a friday)
