Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

Sebrof61 (a user on FollowFollow) says this:-

as i posted 2 days ago the deal for our licence is done

some more info i have been given is

spl to get 15 rangers games as part of there tv coverage, for 3 years

30 odd games to rangers tv with 20% of proceeds going to sfl

    no stripping of trophies

a line drawn through this horrible mess

if this is the basis of the agreement i say well done charles green

will not name my source ,although earl of leven knows who it is

    ===================================================

Now, my information from an impeccable source is that most of this is correct but importantly there is an agreed draft of the agreement to grant a licence which is subject to the approval of the various boards. (So the licence is not “done”, but almost.)

Law firms heavily involved on all sides.

Sevco will have no liability for EBT/improper registration breaches of regulations.

SPL will not commence proceedings against RFC(IA) in relation to EBTs/improper registrations until FTT decision is known.

RFC(IA) obliged to provide a copy of the FTT judgement to SPL within 7 days of receipt.

Sevco will pay domestic football debts and euro football debts and will not receive payment due from SPL for finishing 2nd last year (understood to be around £1.3m).

The investigation into the EBT/registration issue will commence once FTT findings are known.

Sevco will not be punished for any actings by Craig Whyte (and I presume David Murray by logical extension.)

No mention of stripping of titles which is still open to the SPL once the investigation concludes.

The FollowFollowers are hailing the deal as a victory for common sense and a triumph of negotiation by Charles Green.

In fact he has just kicked the EBT can down the road; established that RFC (IA) will be investigated rather than Sevco, obtained agreement that Sevco will not be penalised for prior wrongdoing by RFC(IA) and conceded some media rights.

So will he now come out and say they are a new company?

    =============================

One can only assume this was the whole basis of CG’s argument.

I have to say I have sympathy with the argument that they are a new company and as such have no history, good or bad.

Green won’t say this in public because it would damage his chances of selling tickets.

He is also keeping under his hat the fact that sanctions against RFC(IA) including stripping of titles is not mentioned in the agreement but is not off the agenda.

  14. Ghuys,

I trust the SFA will be really careful in monitoring and Sevco contracts this year ( Assuming they gte a license), as the current circumstances are ripe for Sevco to shell out back handers to their more senior pros.

30 / 70 odds on them now playing, I suggest. A fudge will be found to grant a temporary license subject to the FTT and subsequent independent SPL enquiry working out the required penalties.

A sine die ban is inevitable, the only way out of it for Sevco is apply again with a new name (no R*ngers), new strip, new badge, no history , their choice!

Still, feels like a car crash could happen with a bunch of unscrupulous operators trying to take the p1ss out of weak minded football officials.

roughly how long will it take to get security, advertisements, hospitality for a crowd of 120?

  16. Southampton look to sign Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal

Southampton are believed to want to deploy Celtic enforcer Beram Kayal alongside former Rangers and Northern Ireland playmaker Steven Davis in the heart of their midfield as they prepare for their return to the top flight after a seven-year absence.

Manager Nigel Adkins, who is also keen to be reunited with Celtic’s top scorer, Gary Hooper, after working with the striker at Scunthorpe United, is an admirer of the Israeli international and could persuade the SPL champions to part with the 24 year-old by making an offer of £5 million.

With uncertainty surrounding the intentions of broadcast partners Sky to continue their involvement with the SPL following the decision to instal Rangers newco in the Third Division, the transfer market north of the border has been stagnant.

However, Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who signed Kayal from Maccabi Haifa for an undisclosed fee in July, 2010, would be able to utilise the fee from any sale to finance other transfers.

With international players Joe Ledley, Scott Brown, Victor Wanyama, Ki Sung Yeung, James Forrest and Kris Commons, midfield is the strongest area of the Celtic squad.

Kayal signed an extended and improved contract last October which ties him to Parkhead until 2015, and that will allow Celtic to exact maximum value from his transfer.

Lets say Rangers are stripped of their titles.

How many of their support would walk away?

How many does that mean do not understand the sporting principle and have attached themselves to Rangers for other reasons that have nothing to do with football.

Is our game so dependent on the revenue it would lose by their walking away it is ready to prositute sporting priniciples for bawbees from bawheids?

This is about so much more than football, it is right v wrong, good v evil and it may not be a final battle, but it has all the hallmarks of an Armageddon.

Threats, bullying blackmail, are these the principles that will hold sway? For if they are the good guys, and there are milions v the bad guys thousands, will walk away.

  28. So it’s Brechin and the Ramsden Cup. Maybe.

    How the mighty have fallen.

Seems like only yesterday that in workplaces, pubs and clubs etc., Timmery had to grit its collective teeth and listen to THEM lamenting that big clubs like Rangers, with better things to do, were being forced to play in that stupid League Cup.

‘Tis given unto man to live long enough and see it all.

  29. Mhark

I know what you mean, and I think I know what we would like to be the case, and indeed is the case from a legal perspective. A lazy journo will call them by Rangers because they pander to the basest fan who demands it.

@rangerstaxcase puts it simply. They will still be punished for past sins if they’re still Rangers. If they accept they are Sevco, Newco, they can’t be. If I was a creditor, I’d probably think similarly.
