Partick Thistle game doesn’t register

474

While captain Scott Brown will return to first team action this week, with the league encounter with Aberdeen out of the way, Brendan Rodgers will almost certainly continue to rest players ahead of the teams next meeting in the Scottish Cup Final.

Getting it right for Hampden is only one aspect the manager will be concerned about. Celtic’s first Champions League qualification round starts eight weeks tomorrow, between now and then the entire squad has to get their annual rest period and a significant portion of preseason. Several will also be on international duty four weeks from now.

While you and I want to see out the league programme undefeated, it is more important players are rested for the various cup finals which take place between now and the end of August. The Partick Thistle game on Thursday doesn’t register on what is important.

Celtic FC Foundation

Six days from now, while you are watching Celtic skelp Hearts, I’ll be running my first marathon, in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  I’m now in mild panic about what lies ahead, but on this Anniversary month, it’s important that we pay more than lip service to what being a Celtic supporter is all about.

If you are able to, please support the Foundation here.  If you are unable to, perhaps you know the Hail Mary…….

Thank you for the unbelievable support I’ve received so far.  There will be a time on Sunday when it will fuel the legs.

People who are good at snooker are so often accused of having had a misspent youth, but mate, see you and your music, (and your books) did you ever go to school, or sleep, or eat? Often I try and find what you post on youtube, sometimes I’m lucky and other times I’m not.

The reason they played their development team with a young average age was simply because it was cheaper, not because it was innovative or brave. They released most of their older youths to save dosh.

I will be curious to follow their youth teams travails next season to see what exotic European venues they get to experience, and also, which teams (and what age group) will grace Glasgow to further their sporting education against the The Rangers youth team.

    The Record

Celtic look set to land another 1000 tickets for next week’s Scottish Cup Final after Aberdeen decided not to take up their option for an extra 1340 Hampden briefs.

The Parkhead club had reacted with fury earlier this month when it emerged the Dons could potentially receive an extra 700 tickets for the showpiece season-ending clash as the Hoops look to close out the Treble.

SFA chiefs said that was due to the fact Celtic wanted their traditional area of the national stadium – the east end – which holds slightly fewer fans than the opposite side.

However Aberdeen have satisfied the demand from their fans after selling out their initial allocation of just under 20,000 tickets and will not be taking up the option for the extra 1344.

Those tickets are situated in the upper South Stand. And while it has still to be confirmed whether those briefs will be handed to Celtic, it now looks as though both clubs will have more or less an equal share of Hampden.

Celtic last week revealed their ‘disappointment’ over the allocations which could have seen their fans outnumbered by the Red Army for the final on Saturday, May 27.

The Hoops released at statement insisting they have done everything in their power through discussions with Hampden chiefs to maximise the allocation for their fans.

  13. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Celtic fans need to or should be singing rebel songs. We have enough great songs about the football. So why bother singing songs of war?

I have to say it’s pretty telling that any voice of dissent gets you labelled a hun. If there is anything hunnish it’s stamping out dissent in the support.

  14. Will be interesting to hear what mcinnes has to say after the midweek game at ipox ,win lose or draw . He never has anything complimentary to say about celtic , had we hammered ten past them on Friday ,it would have been against the run of play . But getting back to that game , a whirlwind start by the team , but after that we allowed them to get into the game , we can’t let that happen in the final . That wee Hayes has a habit of scoring rockets against us , and that Stockley will need to be sorted early doors . I don’t think boyata or Jose were too comfortable in handling that guy , Mcinnes saw that so expect more of the same , we need to get the job done , and keep the mibs influence out the game . I was a bit disappointed we took the foot off the pedal .

Its where Sevco went wrong when they had to start in Division Three.

But no youth based team would do for them, they went down a blind alley for 5 years hiring broken down

journey men on big wages John Daly, Ian Black, etc etc, and it was third or nothing with a massive gap to Aberdeen never mind Celtic.

See my point on Billy Gilmour. The Scottish League is apparently a ‘bronze league’ and the training fees

due to Sevco are a fraction of the fee miraculously plucked out of the air by Jim Traynor.

The EPL is ‘a gold’ league as Celtic found with Moussa Dembele where a fee of £500,000 really was paid.
