Partick Thistle game doesn’t register

474

While captain Scott Brown will return to first team action this week, with the league encounter with Aberdeen out of the way, Brendan Rodgers will almost certainly continue to rest players ahead of the teams next meeting in the Scottish Cup Final.

Getting it right for Hampden is only one aspect the manager will be concerned about. Celtic’s first Champions League qualification round starts eight weeks tomorrow, between now and then the entire squad has to get their annual rest period and a significant portion of preseason. Several will also be on international duty four weeks from now.

While you and I want to see out the league programme undefeated, it is more important players are rested for the various cup finals which take place between now and the end of August. The Partick Thistle game on Thursday doesn’t register on what is important.

Celtic FC Foundation

Six days from now, while you are watching Celtic skelp Hearts, I’ll be running my first marathon, in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  I’m now in mild panic about what lies ahead, but on this Anniversary month, it’s important that we pay more than lip service to what being a Celtic supporter is all about.

If you are able to, please support the Foundation here.  If you are unable to, perhaps you know the Hail Mary…….

Thank you for the unbelievable support I’ve received so far.  There will be a time on Sunday when it will fuel the legs.

I don’t know if the link will work as I’m pish at posting links but it’s Jinkys Bar. The bar is actually in Montechoro if I remember correctly a wee spot quite close to Albufeira.

Depending on what part of resort you are staying it’s walkable but any case only a couple of Euro by Taxi.

There is a big Irish Pub in Montechoro as well called Erins Isle, worth checking out, usually good venue for music & craic.

  12. Sad news about the passing of Lambo’s Front Teeth.

I was introduced to Brian at an Aberdour event, by Curly I think. Turned out we had probably played against each other at one point as he was a player for Kirkton VC in Dundee, a club with a fair few internationalists playing out of it, so he must have been a good standard himself.

Shame I never got more opportunities to learn more about him.

    May he rest in peace.

    ERNIE LYNCH

Maybe he doesn’t know because he couldn’t hear them.

Or maybe he is Pat Nevin, who hears things nobody else does?

    ========

    Or maybe I’m Neil Lennon?

IRA chants were heard at Tynecastle last week when some Celtic fans clashed with stewards following an incident on the touchline which saw a fan charged with assaulting Lennon.

The Northern Irish manager again praised the supporters for their “magnificent” response to him and the team on Sunday as Celtic lost out to Rangers in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title race despite victory over Motherwell.

But he urged a minority of fans not to tarnish the club’s reputation.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Lennon said: “Celtic is rightly proud of its unique history and also of its open, inclusive and welcoming spirit. It is this which we hold dear.

“While we are delighted with the support we have received throughout the season, it is very important that we ensure that Celtic is always a positive club for all.

“We all know it has been a very difficult season for Celtic and we all know what has gone on.

“However, we must ensure that we do all we can to uphold the club’s reputation.

“In recent times, unfortunately there has been a re-emergence, from a small minority, of some of the singing and chanting which is simply not acceptable around our club.

“This has no place at Celtic Park or at any of our matches and it must be tackled.

“All this does is tarnish the great name of Celtic and embarrasses the club.

“As we move towards next season it is vitally important that we ensure we do so positively.

“However small the minority of people involved, this behaviour has no place at Celtic and I am sure as we move towards a new season and new beginning, everyone associated with the club will recognise this.”

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/8519652/Neil-Lennon-urges-Celtic-fans-to-stop-unacceptable-IRA-chants.html

BTW I’m loathe to post links to that gutter rag but needs must. The IRA have nothing to do with Celtic. If it was part of Irish heritage then you would hear these songs at Republic of Ireland matches. You don’t because people are trying to move forward in the world. It’s 2017 not 1981 There were atrocities committed by both sides. Innocent civilians slaughtered by both sides. I’m not going to celebrate that. If the people of NI want to be set free, they can vote for it. I’m Irish and fully support a United Ireland by peaceful means. We’ve been haemorrhaging support in the Republic because many people don’t want to be associated with us. That may not hurt you, but it hurts me and it hurts the club I love.

It will be utterly humiliating and a PR disaster.
