Partick Thistle game doesn’t register

474

While captain Scott Brown will return to first team action this week, with the league encounter with Aberdeen out of the way, Brendan Rodgers will almost certainly continue to rest players ahead of the teams next meeting in the Scottish Cup Final.

Getting it right for Hampden is only one aspect the manager will be concerned about. Celtic’s first Champions League qualification round starts eight weeks tomorrow, between now and then the entire squad has to get their annual rest period and a significant portion of preseason. Several will also be on international duty four weeks from now.

While you and I want to see out the league programme undefeated, it is more important players are rested for the various cup finals which take place between now and the end of August. The Partick Thistle game on Thursday doesn’t register on what is important.

Celtic FC Foundation

Six days from now, while you are watching Celtic skelp Hearts, I’ll be running my first marathon, in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  I’m now in mild panic about what lies ahead, but on this Anniversary month, it’s important that we pay more than lip service to what being a Celtic supporter is all about.

If you are able to, please support the Foundation here.  If you are unable to, perhaps you know the Hail Mary…….

Thank you for the unbelievable support I’ve received so far.  There will be a time on Sunday when it will fuel the legs.

I think I will wait on “The second biggest budget in Scotland”being produced, before I will believe anything coming from that pit.Aberdeen may be losing some players, but they are well run.Already they have signed the boy from ICT,who will be a really good player for them. They have a couple of highly rated kids ready to step up.Just what have Sevco got?.A team full of duff players, they will not shift. No money to buy new players.A raving lunatic managing them, and a support frothing at the mouth for success, ready to turn on anyone when it does not appear.A Charlatan ,Glibby, awaiting court cases all summer, which WILL cost them big money.I am afraid you are being lulled by the SMSM and Level 5 bollox.

Aberdeen or Sevco.I know who my money would be on for a future.

Does anybody remember when the huns were so flush (sic) they actually paid Hutton £1,000,000 to get on the plane and sign for Spurs even though he didn’t want to go no matter how many pints the Shankill loyal bought him?

It’s based on UEFA/FIFA categorisation of clubs plus age categorisations. From the seasons between a player’s 12th to 15th birthday the training costs awarded are calculated as if the player is at a Category 4 club – i think that works out at €10k per year (so $40k for Gilmour) then for the 1 year until Gilmour is 16 it will be calculated at the Category 3 level. I think that is €30-40k.

That’s from memory when I checked it out a couple of years ago. The amounts may have risen since, but i don’t imagine they will have increased significantly. The system is designed so that very young players don’t go for exorbitant amounts of money.

  4. Wonderful reading on E Tims Diary today. From the addled minds of a couple of Munters, how Sevco can make money.A must read.Believe me.One wanting to make a Bollywood movie of Sevco and sell it to India !!!!!!!!!!!!.

All the adjectives I can think up for them, redundant after reading this.

Remember Dundee Utd got conned by the huns and the SFA, for ‘wonderkid’ Charlie Telfer (me neither), for about £390,000,which is up there with biggest transfers in Scotland in last 5 years.

    ——————————————————-

I don’t remember it being that much, but I’ll happily accept that I could be wrong. I think the amount was higher as it was within the same national association.

  6. If Aberdeen sign Shaun Maloney as a replacement for Niall McGinn, that’s an upgrade. They’ve signed Tansey from ICT, a better defensive midfielder that Jack so I see them being stronger next season, especially if they sign a better centre half than Ash Taylor. We should also give them Christie on loan for a full season, would do him good.

  7. I bet Europe cant wait. They will be demanding May forces Brexit before August.

So Aberdeen lose a few players, maybe, maybe not, how many charlatans and freebies is Pedro going to have to bring in to replace all the crooks (physically), charlatans, freebies and Garneresque fuds?

Pedro it toeing the party line, he knows he has made a boo-boo leaving Qatar and he wants away and he is employing positive reverse psychology to ensure he gets his contract paid in full when he gets sacked.

Checkpoint Charlie, 150 Edmiston Drive, for the chique-est of fenian agents only.

    _____

Aberdeen are set to lose Ryan Jack, Niall McGinn, Ash Taylor & Ryan Christie. That’s some decent players. We’ll see who they replace them with.

The huns will find it difficult to shift the players they currently have. They’ll be rid of Hyndman, Senderos, Hill and Toral this summer.

However, they do have some absolute dumplings on long term contracts.

Contracted until 2020: Jordan Rossiter, Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Michael O’Halloran and Josh Windass

2019: Tavernier, Garner, Forrester, Hodson, Foderingham

They’ll try and punt who they can but it won’t be easy. They’ll probably have to go again with mostly the same squad.

I just had a wee check there, I missed that there are special provisions about players moving between associations within the EU where payments are based on average training costs between two clubs which would bring the number closer to €300k.

It’s all academic anyway. Whatever figure they receive will evaporate as soon as it is received.

  18. Just in case anybody is a geek like me and is interested in this kind of things. Celtic players contract expiry

    31.05.2021 – Eboue, Griffiths & Tierney

Nailed down for the long term. Unlikely to leave unless the club wants them to.

31.05.2020 – Sinclair, Dembele, Biton, Sviatchenko, Simunovic, Gordon

Interesting group considering they have all been linked with moves away from Celtic. Once again Celtic don’t need to sell any of these players and will only do so if they want to.

31.05.2019 – Rogic, Gamboa, McGregor, Boyata, Forrest, Mackay-Steven, Lustig

Apart from Mackay-Steven, this appears to be a group of players that the club are happy with but weren’t so excited that they were willing to hand over long term contracts. I imagine that if they have a strong season next year they may get a better deal.

31.05.2018 – Brown, Bailly, De Vries, Armstrong, Henderson, Izaguirre

Strange grouping. Likely that Izzy will leave at the end of his deal and the keepers will be lucky to do even that. I’m sure the club will be desperate to get Brown and Armstrong tied down to new deals.

As for Henderson, who knows? Is he playing for his future next year?

    31.05.2017 – Ambrose, Commons, Toure

All likely to leave in the summer.

    Players out on loan:

    31.05.2017 – Fasan, O’Connell

    Will be leaving the club

31.05.2019 – Janko, Allan, Christie, Ciftci

Apart from Christie, the club will be actively trying to get rid of them.

    31.05.20 – Ajer

Long-term prospect. Likely to go out on loan again for the year.

  25. Taylor has a contract offer, yet to accept – no guarantee’s he’ll stay or go. Pawlett going to Rotherham or some other English giants, Jack being tapped by Sevco, if you can believe anything you read in the papers.

Unlike Sevco, Aberdeen have a long history of bringing players through from youth set-up., and they seem to be buying ICT by stealth. Tansey already signed.
