Paulo clicks

It wasn’t Celtic at their devastating best, but there was enough on show to reassure us that the malaise which had afflicted the champions in recent weeks is easing.

Brendan Rodgers chopped and changed who accompanied Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley in midfield, before handing Paulo Bernardo consecutive starts – and the team the chance to build some consistency. The Portuguese performed perfectly, pinching the opening goal to settle collective nerves.

The really swirls have been the fourth or fifth Celtic goal of the day, such was the volume and quality of chances passed up. At just the one goal down, Dundee were still on it until the late and effective cameo from Ireland’s Own, Mikey Johnston.

Aping Lius Palma’s signature move, Mikey cut inside from the left and unleashed a right foot shot into the fat corner. Minutes later he added a third.

Dundee were repeatedly cut open in the closing stages as the Tic’s passing game clicked.

Apologies for the delay in getting back.

Good to hear your wife is a mindfulness teacher, with the amount of stress, anxiety and mental health issues abound, it is important for people to have the tools to help themselves.

It has been a strange first half of the season, with so much change, hopefully we can kick on, first team players coming back into the fold and a hugely important transfer window on the horizon.

The only way to deal with VAR and officiating in Scotland is to have experienced, professionals players with the smarts to diminish it’s impact.

Celtic have to be head an shoulders above the opposition to win this league.

Given the timings of this plus losing Maeda and possibly Kyogo / Hatate for a tricky period of games in early Feb we have even more need for 2 or 3 in the forward positions.

Our rivals will not be similarly affected as none of them are Asian and their Africans are not really NT players who will def be playing.

  8. B78- it’s an easy one for me,cancel the games, pretty sure if you lose 2 players you can do it,no point in playing games with a weakened team.

With all due respect to Broony, if Harry Kewell goes we need a first teir coach to come in, maybe as joint assistant manager level.

We are a grossly underprepared side, it is obvious.

Ange did fine with the players he brought in yet had little time for the full squad or the junior side.

The quality of our overall squad and B team is testament to that.

Maybe Broony in for a development/academy type role?

A lot of talk about The Asian Cup and how it is a problem for Celtic

    Well it is a problem

Without knowing too much about the teams competing you would think Japan are one of the favourites

Japan play Vietnam then Iraq then Indonesia in the Group

The Quarter Final is on 2/3 Feb, Semi on 6/7 Feb and Final 10 Feb

From a Celtic planing point of view you need to assume we will not have Kyogo, Hatate and Maeda and possibly Iwata until after the final Feb 10

We have a home game v Kilmarnock on the 17 Feb so hopefully all good for that

In Between the break and the Asian Cup Final celtic play 4 games

Jan 21 Home v Buckie Thistle Scottish Cup (You would expect us to be OK)

Jan 27 Home v Ross County

    3 Feb Away v Aberdeen

    7 Feb Away v Hibs

Obviously the two away games are a problem

Without being negative on our Japanese players it is in Celtics best interest if they get knocked out early

I feel ashamed just thinking it – sumimasem (means sorry in Japanese apparently)

I think we can get away with losing the two South Korean boys OH and Yang (I still cant get excited about Oh)

Let’s hope Peter spends a few quid in Jan

  17. CHAIRBHOY- Thanks for reply, I would like someone with new ideas, but possibly till end of the season, we could do with him to come in and kick some arses ,and get us back on track.

  18. Shankland took his goal very well, but lacks pace , he is a centre forward that scores goals , a natural goal scorer , would he fit in to the system we play against packed defences , imo worth the punt .

  19. KINGLUBO – agree re Shankers; it’s not that he’s not a good poacher but he did nowt for 90+ (before scoring)

Other – stuffy – teams might like to carry a player like that who is an instinctive sniffer, but I guess our manager and team calls for a harder working and more mobile frontman.

He’s a bit like Viduka in terms of his right ‘to my feet’ attitude.

No doubt we will be left lighter by so many Asian Cup departures; really hope TF the recruit/suit brigade are about to pull off a stunning bit of window business for us.

  20. !!BADA BING!! @ 10:55 AM,

Well there’s no doubt about it, we could do with the aul thunder back.

Still, we seem to have been going round in managerial, coaching circles for sometime now, with limited results.

Fresh ideas and impetus is needed.

Saw Broony’s Fleetwood play Wycombe Wanderers, they were a well set up side, didn’t get the result though.

We could certainly do with some “Personality” at Lennoxtown.

I just said this on SC

Our dead ball situations really piss me off. You can train all week on them using various combinations. TBH I see little evidence of this, we can’t even take a shy property!

For example did you know Efe Ambrose was a long ball expert. When we got a shy did you ever see him deployed with that tool , still got the same trainersπŸ™„

  22. We ain’t going to get any super striker who is only thinking he is signing for a couple of games.Like wise, midfielder.Unless we are dropping Kyogo, and one from our midfield 3, when Hatate is back.

Bernardo now looking the part.Saturday should tell s more.

We will be going some to get better than we have got in those positions.

A keeper and LB for me.We really could improve there.GT,fine, but if we can improve great.

Can’t find any reference to this. Where did you source this? Could be a big plus for us, if true…

  24. PRESTONPANS BHOYS @ 11:42 AM,

Our set plays really are a travesty, we know these days top sides have a team of specialist coaches, doesn’t Pep have nine?

Not saying we should go down that route but a good No2 and a Austin McPhee type coach would be huge assets.

One thing our structure is good at creating is corners.

If we were dangerous from those we would be a different proposition.

Of course defending them is just as important.

Should have known Efe had hidden talent:))

  25. 18 YARD MAN @ 11:49 AM,

There was an Asia Cup last year, it is a quadrenniel event.

The Asia U23 Cup is a biennial event with Ho and Yang going, that’s what B78 was stating.

    Hail Hail

  26. Shankland would join the list of strikers ill suited to the Celtic way of playing …..

Kenny Misser was another , remember him coming short to the edge of the box , for a ball fizzed into feet only for him to miscontrol said round object and he played a one two with his face.

I’m afraid big Shankland is a complete non starter in my book , far too slow and poor ball control.
