Payback for Turnbull Hutton

735

You all think you’re so smart, smugly laughing at the outcome of a game in a tournament you didn’t even know existed until recently.  Let me tell you, yesterday’s defeat of Newco Rangers was nothing short of calamitous for the road I hoped the club would take.

Ally McCoist is crucial to all the things I hope happens to Newco in the years to come.  He alone can deliver the hilarity waiting for when his team face full time footballers every week.  Who else could spend so much yet produce so little?  Who else would have the sheer brass neck to demand such a salary, even if partially deferred, in order to endorse the spivs as suitable recipients of season ticket money?  This guy is unique and of immeasurable value.

Yesterday’s defeat fundamentally weakens his position.  What now when, in true Rangers tradition, he stands in front of this year’s AGM thanking ‘yous’ for being the cream in his doughnut?  Will they still cheer at being patronised like applauding seals completely lacking in self-awareness?

Mark my words, anything which undermines McCoist is unwelcome.  A Ramsden’s Cup win would allow him to claim as much credit as he could waddle off with and would have upset no one.  They had a party at Ibrox planned, like it was 1975 all over again.  The humiliation must be significant.

The way forward for Newco Rangers is to put pressure on their board to release badly needed funds for the manager to spend in the hope of winning promotion from the Championship next season.

A word for Raith Rovers and their chairman Turnbull Hutton.  It was a Raith Rovers director who sat across the table from one of the Rangers clubs (I’ve lost track) to judge their failure to dispense their tax and other duties during season 2011-12.  McCoist then publicly demanded to know the names of the panel members.

It was Raith’s Starks Park ground which needed 24 hour security after receiving a threat to burn it to the ground following McCoist’s outburst.  Turnbull Hutton stood firm and was one of the voices which ensured the rules were applied as they stood.

Seville – The Celtic Movement

“Going into the second leg, it was all in Liverpool’s favour and on paper it was Celtic’s toughest test. That wasn’t to be the case though as Celtic achieved a very comfortable 2-0 at Anfield. Both goals were superb to top a fantastic victory. A low free kick from Alan Thompson and a wonderful strike from John Hartson were the difference in this game. Celtic went through to the semi-final 3-1 on aggregate.”

  1. Scotland has been tied in a union for with England, Wales and Ireland for 300 years, there has been periods in history of terrible sectarian and religious persecution during those 300 years and Scotland has suffered its share, much of this persecution was through an establishment which has been ran from London during those 300 years and still is to a degree

Salmond and the SNP first got their hands on political power in 2007, and according to some posters on here are responsible for all of Scotland’s sectarian and religious ills since time began ………………….

Re your recent posts regarding the MSM and Celtic Boards’ reaction to it.

Firstly on a historical point I do not think that it is fair to say nobody in the pre Murray days ever pulled Rangers up about their sectarian policy. Ian Archer – a talented Graeme Speirs- pesistently criticised them and it was media pressure following the violence in Birmingham

that forced Willie Waddell to announce in the autumn of 1976 that their signing policy would change.

I know there were apologists for the Rangers ‘traditions’ and remember the craven decision of STV to broadcast the programme Credo early on a Sunday morning weeks after the programme was broadcast in the rest of the UK at peak viewing time. But since the arrival of Murray in late 1988 and the signing of Maurice Johnston a few months later I think things have been much worse

than they were. Indeed following that signing for some in the media Rangers became a virtual haven of enlightened thinking and a serious

attempt was made to present them

    as Scotland’s National Club.

Celtic’s reaction to this has since

    before Fergus McCann’s arrival been

pitiful where it has existed at all. Fergus himself was at least seen to be fighting the football establishment itself – which was more important – and personally seemed to treat the media with the contempt it deserved.

But nobody else in the six or seven years before Fergus McCann took over was remotely media savvy and since FM left our club’s public utterances on almost every serious talking point from the Green Brigade to the demise of Rangers and their rebirth, the media treatment of several Celtic managers and many of of our players, the shambles following the shame game and the reaction of Kenny McAskill to the League Cup a few days later have been masterpieces of fence sitting, mealy mouthed blandness.

I thank our club’s directors and it’s CE for its admirable handling of Celtic’s finances but in presenting a clear unambiguous aura of knowing where the club stands on issues of true concern to the supporters they have failed

    Enough of the lecture

Interesting point about how this “horrible wee country” operates.

Over decades within the political union we are part of, a football club is allowed to follow a blatently sectarian policy, and this is put forward as a reason to maintain this union?

Our support have often surprised a hungry, baying media in past cases, much to their disappointment. To such an extent that some have gone to the extent of creating stories about coughing to the tune of The Boys of the Old Brigade.

before we get too sentimental about Hearts fans, I would also point out that, when Neil was physically attacked there, Three stands full of Hearts fans stood up to applaud the attacker.

That, more than the attack itself, was the trigger for the reaction of the Celtic fans that night. I still don’t know how there was not a full scale riot by us that night. I have never seen the support as angry.

  11. The administrators for Hearts are in Lithuania and are reported to be well along the way towards agreement that will save the club. But nothing is finalised yet and the money is expected to run out at the end of the month.

Time is the enemy now and I expect that is why the request for advance payment of moneys due at the end of the season has been made. Isn’t there a precedent? I seem to remember prize money being paid early to another stricken club – not that it kept them alive for long.

Part of me wants to see Hearts in liquidation just to see how the authorities handle the situation. The “compare and contrast” against the help given to the former Rangers and their bastard child could be illuminating.

Time is indeed the enemy. According to the Admin they have enough cash to last until end-April. Unless the fans or a Sugar Mummy (Anne Budge) provides more cash to continue, they are fecked. Additionally, the Lithuanians are looking at the big picture – Hearts FC will be a small item on the agenda. Tick tock…?

Fed up with the LG continuation….let Celtic deal with it…I see on FB there is some talk of it being an old clip, I am not sure. I have watched the clip and to me it is unclear as to whether he is singing or not and he sits down pretty sharpish. Not saying it’s right or wrong but it’s inconclusive. Having had to deal with similar incidents chairing panels in my previous life, there would no case to answer but would privately ask his line manager to have a quiet word.

    ####

Well given that Scottish football administration is entirely autonomous ie it’s run by Scots for Scots I don’t think it’s too fanciful to deduce that the ingrained issues of sectarianism and bias which afflict the game reflect an aspect of Scottish society.

Furthermore there is no similar problem in England.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but as a club we get a fairer crack of the whip from the UK national media (at least those parts of it not dedicated to Scotland) than we do from the Scottish media.

Similarly when Neil Lennon played in England he wasn’t booed at every away ground. Nor did he receive death threats or mail bombs. He had to come to Scotland to get that treatment.

Your nationalist politics are blinding you to the obvious. Scotland has a problem all of its own and we as a club are the victims of it.

  23. Richie #TeamOscar on

I don’t have nationalist politics, I am just a nationalist. I’ve only ever voted Labour, but since the death of John Smith I haven’t voted at all.

I would never vote SNP, even tactically.

I have lived in Scotland all of my 55 years and worked in many other countries, specifically England.

This “nation” is so centralised to London it’s not even funny. I want that to end, and firmly believe that there are enough good people up here to make changes to the fabric of Scottish society, and I’m no’ feart to be a part of that.

To be honest I can’t wait for this season to be over as the level of abuse both on this blog and in the MSM has been ” off the radar “. I am looking forward to the World Cup then the qualifiers for the CL but it’s a shame it’s at Murrayfield as it will be quarter full at best. Should have been at Kilmarnock, Easter Road or Tynecastle, full and buzzing.

Then I realise the hand wringing and abuse will star up again in the lead up to the Vote in September.

You are right, investigations into them seem to disappear into the ether and the board and our reps at the SFA seem to allow this to happen.

Re the MSM, it’s time to withdraw from them and use the new media in a far more savvy fashion.

It’s Tuesday morning two days after Raith won a cup final, nothing significant has happened in Scottish football over the intervening days, but the story no longer registers on the BBC Scotland red button news. I remember their last win being headline news for, well, years. The BBC do have made up concerns about NL and the Norwich job and LG possibly singing something that might be racist. Was this the same department who made up lies about the Celtic support and sectarian songs?
