Police being laughed at by grateful media, Jinky medal comes onto the market

973

Strathclyde Police seem unprepared to decommission the loose cannon that is providing the regular leaks of largely inaccurate information about Celtic fans to the press.  The country’s largest police force have become a regular source of material and hilarity for our media, perhaps best illustrated by their unattributed comment to the Scotland on Sunday, suggesting they plan to “smash the Irish Republican, Marxist, Green Brigade”.

While the police officially claim “these comments do not reflect the view of the Force” the damage is already done.  The stage is set for an inevitable confrontation by a group of supporters who now believe they are being unfairly picked upon (for being Marxist, good grief, I thought they all shaved and suited-up under Tony, including the men!), and a police force, which employs someone who has told the press they are picking on the Green Brigade and which is asked by the Government to challenge pro-IRA chanting.

All political chanting must stop, of course, but I don’t fancy being an officer on the ground who has to pick up the pieces after a very loose tongue has set a scene for confrontation.

Make no mistake, the police are being laughed at by grateful recipients of their media comments, who cannot believe the utter naivety of the Pitt St operation, I have heard this laughter first hand from more than one journo, but the consequences of such dire behaviour will be severe.

I would like to thank everyone who bid on the ebay auction for the Jimmy Johnstone medal. I’m really pleased to let you know that the medal has been withdrawn from sale. Thanks again and sorry if you had already bid.

We are not short of history at Celtic, but there are very few occasions a unique memento of the Greatest Ever Celt becomes available.  The medal is a 47-year-old slice of Celtic folklore, check it out on ebay.

    Tom Mc..,

If thats the case, then they are painfully milking the best support in the world, what sort of message is that to the Celtic fan base, shameful if you ask me :o)

  2. On a separate issue, I’ve just bought 2 tops, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of socks of the current home kit in junior sizes from SportsDirect for £50 – for the lot. (no name printing)

Celtic want £44.99 for 1 top with name printed.

Something wrong there – how much business mus we be losing. if the difference was a fiver or even a tenner but 3x the cost buying the top from Celtic with name printing to buying top only from sports direct.

Up yer game commercial department. The fans will need to run BRTHs idea, it would be better that way anyway. A level of autonomy and control, from the fans, outside of the board would be welcomed by most I suspect.

  3. merseycelt loves Neil Lennon and the Green Brigade but despises the anti irish/catholic bigotry inherent within the organisations who constitute the scottish establishment on

We rightly defend our irish-catholic republican roots and oppose the discriminatory and oppressive behaviour of the police force, the huns and Media House towards our club and its supporters.

We condemn those who sing and defend the Famine Song for the bigoted, dangerous buffoons they are. We condemn those who portray Neil Lennon as the world’s foremost practitioner in the black arts as the lying, deceitful, uneducated hypocrites they are.

In the same way, we should oppose those who use the term ‘darkie’ to describe black people and yes, TET (if it was you; if it wasn’t, my humblest apologies), it is offensive to the vast majority of black people because it is a pejorative, demeaning term. I suggest you educate yourself on matters relating to race and racism if you intend to publish your views on the subject. As catholics/celtic supporters living in Scotland/Ireland, most people reading this blog will/should have some insight into related issues eg the still recent oppression and vilification of the catholic community by the protestant majority in Norn Ireland.

Many people who are sent to prison have mental health problems, drug and/or alcohol problems and/or experienced very poor parenting. They all have to pay the price for their crime by having their liberty removed. I am not excusing their crimes, I just simply believe that as right minded, insightful people, we shouldn’t be jumping onto any right wing rag agenda eg Daily Mail, Sun to demonise all people who are sent to prison. The young GBer who was imprisoned recently springs to mind!

If I want to read the rantings of right wing nutters, there are plenty of scary places for me to go.

Please challenge those who espouse ignorant and offensive views!

And 19 years in prison is a long time. If you dont agree, you probably think hanging people is an excellent technique to employ for delivering justice. I’m sure your hero, Jeremy Pratson, and the hordes of huns you despise, would concur!

I would honestly prefer giving some of these guys a chance rather than buying chancers in January.

It seems to signify Basle’s biggest results in recent years. Beating us 02 and Liverpool 03, who are also on the banner.

  7. Paddy Gallagher –

If I may correct myself, they’re not actually out of Europe but will instead be joining Celtic in the last 32 of the Europa Leage.

PP are offering 500/1 the draw :-)

  10. Had a treble tonight for 3 or more goals in the game featuring Man U, Man C and Real. Need 1 more goal in each game. Champions League has a good habit of late goals…
